A day late and a dollar short ... but here's Easter at the Ebner's

Morning Egg Hunt was a lot of fun for the boys.

Afternoon was time for arts and crafts. Kate brought this cool gadget to spin and color eggs. It was a big hit.

Then later in the afternoon it was time for boys to be boys.

I imagine you are right. It has been sitting for so long it could just need some oil. It is really old but is in excellent condition. I wish I did know someone that knew a little bit about them. Sewing is not my "thang" so I will find a good home for it one day. Back in the day, I am sure it was top of the line and would make someone happy.

Other than needing the lint cleaned out and a bit of oil, not much else goes wrong with old Singers. The worst that is likely is getting out of time. The hook on the part that spins around the bobbin has to pass the needle just as it begins to move upwards (which is when the side of the thread that goes back to the spool slacks off and makes a little loop for that hook to catch). Once the hook catches the loop, it passes the thread around the bobbin, and the arm on the front yanks the stitch tight. (This is how "modern" (since about 1850) sewing machines can make the lock-stitch.)

Now I just have to back up the e-books to a flash drive.
Just remember, all home digital storage systems (writable CD and DVD, magnetic media like hard drives and floppies, and flash drives) degrade eventually. 5 to 10 years is about all you can expect. Until they degrade you can make perfect copies (unlike audio and video-tapes), but you need to make a schedule to copy those backups onto fresh media before they degrade. (Write the date you recorded your backup on the media to help remember.)

There is also the problem of whether you will have something that can read your digital storage media. (How long has it been since you've seen a 5" floppy drive or a Zip™ disk?) More and more devices are dropping the Type A USB and concentrating on the Type C. (BTW, this goes for your unreplaceable pictures as well.)

Arrgh! Do you have a light on your cell phone?
I do and I always have it with me but I wouldn't need it if "people" put their stuff away! b6b7c924-6dc7-4d76-8a4b-510731aa2467.gif

Count me out on that one. Looks too weird. I don't do scary movies. Life is scary enough!!
I totally agree life is scary enough. I am not sure I am going to be able to watch it either. I just watched the first episode. He has a nice goatee so I am going to try the second episode before I give up. heehee unnamed.gif

Thanks. You are right about Singers and that is probably all it is. Surely if I can replace a six-foot belt on a commercial lawnmower, I can oil a sewing machine. girl_sad.gif It is just in such good shape. I remember my father using it when I was little but I never remember my mother sewing. Her only hobby was smoking and filing her nails. (she had beautiful hands)

I'd bet the Levi's I have on right now are older than some of the law enforcement officers within the local area ..
The sweatshirt I wore to Walmart today (pictured below) was one I painted a tiger on for my mother at least 35 years ago or a little longer. And the baggie blue jeans were given donated to me. I like my old clothes juuuuusssst fine.

Walmart is the size of a, well, it's big and they constantly move stuff around so it's not where it used to be ..
I'm an Aldi's girl. Going to Walmart makes my blood pressure go up. I have never liked their meat.

To cut my nose off to spite my face, I closed out my Amazon Prime account on January 17th, 2021. To be quite honest, I have not missed it one iota and I would not care if Jeff Bezo's next flight was one-way.

And I thought Samsung just did that to tic me off at having to buy a new car charger after I got my last phone. Are they any better than the Type A? I have no idea.

The USB Type C allows the end to not have to be aligned exactly to the orientation of the in .. which, the bonehead that invented the old connection should have thought of originally .. and, the USB C is faster both in charging and in data transfer .. there are cheap adapters readily available ..

I don't know how many times, using the old connector, when I tried to plug in and the end was not oriented correctly .. they were just not a very friendly design ..

I love that the boys are big enough to climb the trees now. It was my hands down favorite thing to do as a kid. And they seem to be enjoying it just as much. Pine trees are tricky though, they'll learn a lot about sap pretty quick.

Those hard boiled eggs are spinning in that dinosaur contraption. Putting the color on with markers kept them busy for quite awhile. I thought it was much better than the usual dying method. The only problem is that they all went home and left them here! I'll be eating egg salad for a week!!

Hola .. :)

It amazes me when some simple, yet effective contraption is brought to my attention that I never had any idea existed .. it's a head slap moment when I think 'Why did not I think of that .. ??' .. I suppose that's one of the reasons I never ended up being Steve Jobs .. ;)

As if we have not yet endured enough, now this 'bird flu' bit seems to be making the rounds .. poultry price increases from the chicken Cartels .. ?? Mass killing of the chickens .. ?? Conflicting info on whether or not a bird feeder should be put out .. ?? Does that include hummingbird feeders .. ??

And, as far as what's on my mind this AM :: I am somewhat conflicted on the ideology of the Trans Gender bru ha ha that's been bubbling around these last several months .. on one hand, Freedom seems to dictate, to me anyway, that you can call yourself whatever you like .. on the other hand, males allowed to compete in female sports or vice versa, I'm just uncertain how that plays out .. after all, we've had folks switching genders for some time .. and, some pretty well known folks :: Chaz Bono, Caitlyn Jenner, etc ..

Then, there is the Book Banning crowd .. I'm not waffling at all on that one .. banning books is just plain wrong .. these self righteous Zealots that promote this philosophy should be banned ..

I am getting a crick in my neck from shaking my head so much from all the things I am unable to comprehend these days.

Take Caitlin Jenner for example. He was a he but felt like a she. So now she is a she but is not attracted sexually to men and dates women. That sounds more like a confused lesbian. Whew! I can remember drooling over Bruce when he was in the Olympics. Like Caitlin, it is meh, I've seen better. But at least she knows that allowing transgenders to compete with women is ruining women's sport and it is not fair to those girls who are having their dreams ripped away from them. Not to mention their scholarships and future. It is just not right.

I wish I could understand why student loans should be delayed or forgiven. My simple mind says if you borrow money from anyone it is your responsibility to repay the debt. When I got a postage stamp from my mother, she would put $.35 cents on my I.O.U. List. I did not expect the paperboy to pay her back. I paid her because I OWED it. Again, shaking my head.

My gosh Willie, I have had to delete most of this post (you are welcome), but you really have me going. I need a massage and a donut! LaieA_062.gif

I agree! I repaid my student loans way back when, why do these people get a free ride now?

Student loans - Evidently those students didn't know how much debt they were accumulating. Or they did and didn't care. Nobody is teaching about personal responsibility? After struggling to help pay off 2 tuitions for our own kids I don't take kindly to paying for other people's kids.

Reminds me of the young twit I worked with who thought she shouldn't have to come into work when it snowed. The rest of us had to come in though because we lived closer. Guess she never noticed the distance she was driving when she took the job.

I also grew up with the idea that you paid back what you borrowed. If you don't, you will never fool me twice.

Me either. That was a very important lesson that I had to learn. I should have learned it long ago but did not. That falls under the "better late than never" category. girl_haha.gif
