One house we saw last night had asbestos shingles-caught that in the fine print
That was a good catch by Janet. The house could have been a possibility to look at. But it was built in 1985 (4 years before asbestos siding and shingles were banned). So those shingles are coming up to end of life. To replace them is a major hazmat operation. The 'certified' crew has to construct a giant plastic tent over the entire house to 'contain' the dust when doing the removal. I don't suppose the home owner should be in the house while that work is being done. No way could you 'safely' enter/exit the home when it in a big plastic bubble filled with asbestos dust.

Morning, all.

Yeah, hard to complain about lack of rain! Sunny and warm here, still.

One house we saw last night had asbestos shingles-caught that in the fine print. How long ago did they stop making those? It's a huge roof too.

Well, some protection from wild fires...

And right you are, Mike, not a simple thing to deal with, and something the seller should pay for, imo.

Hola .. :)

Surprising .. geez, I can't even imagine what the cost would be to remove, alone replace .. guess that's why they never did it ..

I think our hummingbirds have left. Haven't seen any at the feeder for several days and they were hitting it hard for a few days before that. That's usually a sign they were gearing up to get outa Dodge.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Irene and Jim Bob have flew the coop here as well ..

That, and it probably wasn't leaking yet. I suspect the removal would be a lot more than just a new roof...

The roof 'may have' lasted a number of years yet. I read asbestos shingles could last 50 years. The house was built in 1985, so it was about 37 years old. So I'm assuming they are the original shingles because in 1989 the EPA banned asbestos shingles and siding. But no way did I want to get involved with a house with those shingles.

Good morning. Ian has arrived here. Looks like rain for the next 3 days and temps in the high 50s. Not nice to be outside today.

No wondering what we'll be doing these days-packing and getting rid of stuff. Mike has had people coming daily for stuff he's listed on Free Cycle, Market Place etc. The only houses we've found that we liked were located in the wrong area so I'm changing my focus to moving in with our daughter for a few months. Then either something will show up for us or we'll find a bigger place to share with our daughter and her family.

Well Ian paid us a very short visit and decided he did not want to stay, so I rushed him out the door.
Praise God, the only damage we sustained was fallen branches. Because we normally lose power, I brought all of my freezer contents up to my son's home in St Augustine to put in their deep freeze.
Now when Vincent takes me home tomorrow, we'll tote all of that back.
Vincent has been trying to convince me to sell my home and come to live with him and family. He intends to have a contractor come in and build a mil suite that sounds mighty nice.
I'm still not ready to leave my home but the scare my kids had these last few months has cemented their determination to have me close. Grandkids, oh what a temptation to have them around me so much of the time. My dil is an absolute gem and I consider her my third daughter.

Anyway this got a lot longer than expected, but that's where I am right now

Hola .. :)

Long time 'Threadsters' lives are changing .. it's almost painful for me to read .. I have no right to any opinion, people do what they gotta do, but damn ..

I suppose the street runs two ways .. it can be a positive change or it can be heart wrenching .. or maybe it's a combination of both ..

Nobody makes it out alive in this life, and I guess the stories of others make me think more about my own mortality .. because these stories begin to sound like the final countdown ..

Sorry, that's how I feel ..

Well, yeah, it's been said (since some ancient Greek, iirc) that there's nothing so constant as change. Maybe it's best if we are the initiators of that change, so we can keep at least some semblance of "control." (Or at least think we have some...)

And our needs and wants also change with time. We either adjust willingly, or fight those changes off and usually wind up making them, anyway.

Nope, nobody does, so it's a question of making the best use of the time we have.

Generally speaking, needs and wants don't change beyond a certain point .. food, shelter, relationships, etc .. our ability to simply live the life we want to live, now that can and does change ..

Our drive and ability are what keeps some of us going ..

'Making the best of the time we have left .. ??' That's a defeatist attitude .. in my World, it's 'Maximizing the time I have left ..'

Throwing the towel in and accepting what direction you think life is taking you is just not my way .. never has been .. I'll fight it till they peel me off the floor ..

Good evening to all. The last week has been a bit busy for me. On Tuesday I met Steven at the farm, and we took down a couple of turtles. We then just did a bit of talking/getting caught up on our lives. After our visit, we went to his house, and he gave me a basket with a ramp to transport electric scooters. When I got home, I removed it and put it in the garage. Somehow, I managed to pass out twice falling in my driveway. Yes, after a visit to my doctor he said the meds, I am on and the exertion of lifting the weight was the cause of the accident.
Other than that, not much else has been going on. I hope everyone has a good week.

Dang, Diver, that's not good!! Will that "side effect" ease up? (On the assumption that it's a new med?)

True, those basic needs don't change much, and without meeting them other needs and wants are side lined, of course. "Making the best" and "maximizing" are, imo, pretty much the same thing ;) And to strive for every day.

Still warm and sunny here, and the vague hints of rain next week are now gone.

So nice to hear from you in general and particularly that you weathered the storm OK. Moving in with our daughter is going to be kind of a test run to decide if we can live together full time. One of the talked about scenarios is her selling her house to pool our money and buy a larger house more suitable for us all living under one roof.

Geez, UW are the winter dolldrums setting in early for you this year?

That sounds scary Diver, not knowing if you're going to pass out again if you exert yourself. Will you be on these meds long term? I'd ask the Doc if he thinks your body will adjust or will you just have to be alert about exerting yourself when no one is around. You could take a fall and it might be a good thing to have someone there if needed.

How lucky you are to get along with your kids so well that they want you closer. That’s special. Hugs

I am pretty sure mine have all made a quick exit, too. There was one straggler hanging around for a few days but I’m pretty sure it left, too. I really miss seeing them, but it’s nice to have a break from cleaning/refilling feeders!
