I also want a good looking man...oh well..I can't have every thing:laugh:

Morning, misfits.

Dry and smoky continues, although the claim is that the smoke will start to clear later today (so probably not until after dark, when you can't see it, so it must be gone, right??) and rain to start late tomorrow. Here's hoping!

Well, prepare to be exhausted because we're packing up our house to move! What a giant PIA! But it's an adventure. We're moving in with our daughter and family until we find a house. If we don't drive each other crazy we may even buy a bigger house together.

While, perhaps not ideal, since you'll wind up moving twice, that might be the best. Yeah, test drive the new housemates ;)

Meet Me in St Louie Louie
I recently read a couple murder mystery books by Joanne Fluke, (a Hannah Swensen Mystery series) It's really a mystery told around mostly easy cookie recipes which is why I'm reading them because the writing is more along the lines of a young adult book, but the recipes are good. The Butterscotch Delight cookies are easy to make and may be one of my favorite cookies ever. I froze a bunch of dough balls so I can bake off 8 at a time. Gotta do it that way or I'd eat them all and blow up my diet. They're very easy to make if you want to blow up your diet too.

Hola .. :)

Trust me, I don't need a cookbook to gain the weight back .. ;)

I said something last week to my friend about I needed to trim my boxwoods because dad only did one this summer. Today, my friend called and asked if he could come over. When he pulled up he had all the stuff to trim my bushes. I am not sure if that means he likes me or not but I sure did appreciate it. I don't think he expected me to get out there with him and work just as hard as him. I blew all the trimmings away from the house, weed-eated, and raked them up. Then I bagged the trimmings and put them in my burn barrel. The bushes look awesome! I just went out in the pitch dark just now and took a picture.
20221020_215728.jpg It blows my mind that a cell phone can take pictures in the dark without a flash and they turn out. That is just a few of the bushes. He trimmed 22 today. I have a bunch more but I told him not to worry about them. Most of what is left are the English boxwoods. I think they grow 1 mm a year and looked fine.

Then my friend gave me a lesson on the Exmark. I have been watching dad for a long time so I really knew what to do just not how to do it. I drove it for a little way and it feels weird but Jay assures me that once I get used to it that I will love it. We will see. If I don't, I'll sell it and buy myself a John Deere. heehee

To get it out of the shed, I had to move a big chipper and I told him dad said it was not working. Jay started messing with it and asked me if I knew where dad had some engine starter. I told him no but I knew where the lighter fluid was. He laughed and shook his head. He said he couldn't believe I knew that. Dad taught me that when I was working on his chainsaw. Come to think of it, dad taught me quite a lot. I hope I was a good son to him! heehee

Yay! Now my chipper works. He took home a lawn vacuum. He was going to clean it up and see if he could get that running for me. He knows some landscapers so maybe he can sell it for me. I will never use it.

You may think I am crazy (I imagine you have already confirmed that suspicion) but I had more fun today than I did last weekend when he took me to that party. I had a wonderful day and did not even have to shave my legs. :pervy:

My gosh, I bet you thought I would not have anything to write about since dad's passing. Sadly. . . you were wrong. Hope y'all don't mind me sharing so much.

I am hoping I will sleep more than 4 hours tonight. Fingers crossed. Hope everyone is ready for Fri-YAY.

I am about 1/3rd of the way thru 'Sarum' by Edward Rutherfurd .. it is a dense, very well textured tale of historical Fiction that takes place primarily around the English city of Salisbury, starting with the first human migration to that area and going from there ..

I cannot recommend this book more highly .. it is quite engrossing .. if you are a reader and you like historical Fiction, do yourself s favor and get this book ..
Thank you, your recommendation sealed the deal. With a couple of coupons on Amazon, I got the Kindle edition for around $6.00.

I think today I am going to finish disposing of the VHS tapes that are under the bed. For some reason, for which I have not figured out, my mom liked to tape movies. I did not have much room in my garbage can so I could only get rid of 150 of them. I just happen to be putting them in stacks of 25 so I can count them, which I know is just as ridiculous as taping movies that you will never watch again. heehee She took it to another level too. She would cut out the description and most of them, a picture that I know appeared in the TV Guide. Other than the bible, that was the most sacred book in our house.

After reading my plans for the day, it sounds like a lot more fun to get the mower out. I probably will not be as nervous when no one is watching me and it is the only way I am going to figure out if I need to start doing research on a regular residential lawn mower with a steering wheel.

Happy Friday all.

Just in case one day someone asks you how many VHS tapes can you fit under a full-size bed, tell them 418. bahahahaha

Thanks to the neighbors that have little garbage, I have disposed of all of them and recycled the plastic containers most of them were in.

Seems like every place I have cleaned up has had a surprise for me. This was not as good as finding a Baretta in the kitchen cabinet but I did find something that took much of my youth. Santa always brought me things that would keep me quiet.

Good morning! Wow, 30 degrees this morning. Even the birds stayed home from the feeders!

Just read an article that there will be a lunar eclipse early morning of election day. Won't happen again for 372 years. Wow. Sadly, whenever these things happen our skies are overcast or actually raining so I expect the same thing will happen this year.

I love hearing what's happening in your life and yesterday certainly sounds like it was very satisfying. Good for you! Feels good to get all that stuff done and kudos to Jay for showing up to help you. Always more fun to have some company to make the work go easier.

My BIL bought a lot of Disney movies on tape thinking they'd be valuable someday and they were all sent to us. Well, that didn't work out too well. Our tape player hasn't worked for years and we couldn't even give them away!

Is Reader's Digest still in print? My mother used to love them.

Morning, all.

Wow, big change it the weather here, overnight rain totaling 0.02". They do say more is on the way, and may be substantial...

I had a wonderful day and did not even have to shave my legs.

I don't shave mine, either ;)

Oh, I still have all the Disney tapes and other movies she bought. I called a couple of nursing homes thinking they may want them. I even offered the player with it but no one was interested. :nah:

The coolest and most useless thing I have found so far are two light bulbs that I have never seen before.

20221006_091717.jpg20221006_091945.jpg I just think they are neat. I am having fun going through stuff which is a good thing because I have a lot of stuff yet to go through. heehee

I must have been tired last night. I fell asleep before I even finished a chapter. That is rare for me because I do my best pondering at that time. heehee

Since it is Saturday, I think I will get ready and go to WallyWorld before it gets crowded. I just googled and they open a 6. I g ot upset there the other day. They had a pretty bra on sale. I checked it on my phone app and it was only $3 (cheap I know but this was more for show and tell). When I got up to the checkout, it came up $7. I did not notice that on my phone it said it was for online and may differ in the store. That is just ridiculous to me. I understand a different price for online but not when they have a whole rack of them in the store. The woman at the self-checkout had to take that off my ticket and she said they had just started doing that recently. I know $7 for a bra is reasonable but I often cut my nose off to spite my face based solely on principle.

It is supposed to get up to 70 today. Boy, it's going to be gorgeous. Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday. Not sure what I am going to be doing tonight but I am supposed to be doing it with my friend. YAY me.

Morning, all.

Happy days, the rain is finally here! Nearly 2/3" so far, a nice slow and steady rain, so it gets to sink in. More on the way. The hoses are finally looking forward to their winter hibernation :)

I did not notice that on my phone it said it was for online and may differ in the store.

Yeah, some other places do that, as well. Dumb. One possible way around that, I've heard, is to buy it on line for in store pickup. Grr. MIght work for some kinds of merch, but clothes? I like to try them on, hard to do on the screen...

I was at Walmart at 6 o'clock this morning and I accidently left my phone at home. The first time that has happened since before I moved in with dad. I cannot tell you how many times I needed my phone. I wanted to take a picture of the 25 big black birds that were walking around my car while I was waiting. Then I got into the store and could not check the prices of the things I was buying. Grrrr I know it is sad but I feel naked without my phone or earrings. What the heck did I do before I got a cell phone?

Since we are having one last warm weekend here, I made Jay a strawberry shortcake. I can't wait to share it with him. It is a surprise so if he cancels for some reason, I will not have to share. heehee ;)

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Good afternoon Torey and David. Just taking a short break and thought I'd check in.

@DavidOck Yay, the rain finally arrived! Thought you were supposed to get a lot of rain where you are.

Those are really interesting. Never saw that shape before. Do they work?

Hmmm, strawberry shortcake. Haven't had that in years. What a nice surprise.

Well, back to packing. Then I'm taking a nap because I woke up at 4:00 this morning I laid there thinking it was time to get up so thoughts of moving and what I needed to do today were circling in my brain, Should have looked at the clock first.

Yep. While we (mostly) escaped excessive heat (what we did get came in waves, so not over 90 for weeks at a time), we've been basically bone dry since June. Not good.

And VERY nice that we're not getting a deluge before the ground can soak it up!

I hope everyone is having a nice Saturday!

I did very little work on mom’s basement today. Never could find a leak and her carpet is dry, but I figured I’d get going on cleaning up before she changed her mind. She has floor to ceiling shelves along one wall, and I figured I’d start by cleaning those off so I’d have a place to put the stuff that’s worth keeping. She refused to let me throw away four big plastic storage boxes of old clothes but she DID agree to let me throw out about four dozen jars of various canned vegetables and jellies. They were canned in 1981! They were behind the boxes of clothes she wouldn’t let me toss. She wanted to go through them first, so I took them upstairs. She didn’t want any of them, but wants my nieces to look through them in case they want them. Spoiler alert - THEY WON’T. I’ll end up either throwing them away or taking them to Goodwill (if they’re in good enough shape). Then she argued with me about throwing away a broken barstool and a box of old, ratty stuffed animals and I gave up for the day. I am trying to be patient, but sometimes I just have to walk away. I managed to throw some other junk away while she wasn’t looking, but she keeps a pretty close watch because she knows what I’m up to. LOL. It’s a slow process, to say the least.

After I took all that stuff to the dump, I came home, did some cleaning, and started my laundry. My knees are feeling creaky after all those trips up and down mom’s basement steps, so I plan to tidy up the kitchen and be lazy for the rest of the evening. I will try not to eat any of the Halloween candy I bought, but I make NO guarantees!
