So I didn't move rocks today. Mike found a desk chair and some pachysandra on Market Place so we ended up driving around the country side picking them up. Love the desk chair and the plants will be fine once they're planted. Unfortunately we'll be hauling a watering can out to the embankment where he wants the pachysandra planted. They were dug up and plopped in a box so I hope we can untangle them ok. I'm hoping by next Spring I'll be able to take my own cuttings to be planted elsewhere.

My lettuce is growing like crazy so I was so happy to be able to harvest a bunch for our salad at dinner. I never grew lettuce before and now I'm wondering why.

There's 3 tiny little cukes starting to grow in the raised garden and there's a few cherry tomatoes and a couple tiny green peppers too! And the radishes are coming along nicely. It's so nice to be able to see the garden from our kitchen window in this house.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Morning, all.

Late start this AM, power went out sometime overnight, not back until about 8:30. Some heavy winds, along with the newly soggy ground, most likely a lot of downed trees, although, happily, none here. Just dark :)

Unfortunately we'll be hauling a watering can out to the embankment where he wants the pachysandra planted.

Uh, not a hose?

@DavidOck There is no spigot located on that side of the house, but Mike thinks a hose he found will reach the area where we'll be planting the pachysandra. We'll see. Even if it doesn't reach all the way at least it'll be closer so I won't have to haul the watering can as far.

Yesterday I went to the elementary school for a reading event for our grandson who is in 2nd grade. The class gathered on the lawn in picnic fashion and each kid had a book to read. I was surprised that Miles was reading to himself at the same rate as me. Then when the teacher called for the kids to line up to go back to class Miles was the only one who continued to read his book even when they started to walk back into school. Yay! I'm thrilled that he's so into reading.

Today it's going up to 81 with T-showers this afternoon. It'll be nice to have the rain, but I have to drive 40 to my dentist to get a crown on my broken molar. Not looking forward to that, but admit it'll be nice to get the huge crater in my mouth fixed.

Looks like the rain is done (for a while), and sun is on the agenda. Gradual warm up, maybe 80 on Saturday.

Yes, that will help. Uh, longer hoses? We've been slowly (as they die) switching over to the "fabric" wrapped ones (NOT the collapsible ones though!), These or similar (I've seen them at Wally World)

Very light, highly kink resistant. Seem to hold up well, I've had a couple in use for about 5 years.

I used to watch Anthony B on tv a lot. He was a pretty interesting guy. Even got his book, Kitchen Confidential (think that was the title). What a shame he left us so soon.

In a World of mundane 'celebrities', he was always uniquely his own man

So, the crown is done. Whew! I'm willing to dive 40 minutes to see this dentist because he's never hurt me, does great work is very quick and he's funny. Every other year he goes to Nepal to do dental work in the villages. They line up for great distances so he's had to learn to be fast. He's got framed photos all around the office of his young kids on elephants etc. I just love him.

@DavidOck Thanks for the tip on the hose. We've got a couple of the retractable hoses and I like them, but they don't seem to last very long. Mike has 2 of the regular hoses that will reach the pachysandra so we're ok for now. We'll check out WallMart when it comes time to replace ours.

Glad to hear you've got your power and water back. You don't realize how much you miss them until they stop working,

Morning, loungers.

Might be a loungy day here, got my last debris burn done yesterday, just in time, as the seasonal ban is now on. Nothing quite like tending a bon fire on a (relatively!) hot sunny day...

We've got a couple of the retractable hoses and I like them, but they don't seem to last very long.

That's been our experience, too, with the retractable ones. Maybe 2 seasons, and no way to repair... That, and most of them are only 1/2" ID, so not a lot of water.

Wasn't a loungy day here. They wanted $800 to haul away this pile of spoiled wood in our backyard.

So today it went from here:

It’s not a picturesque New England rock wall, but it’s getting rid of the ugly useless wood pile in the backyard. And I have a 'border' on our back property line.

Janet, I am so sorry you broke your tooth. What color did you paint your nails? heehee

Had another wonderful day helping my friend at his workplace. He is a machinist and does some of the most amazing things I have ever seen. He boss is trying to save money so there was no ac today and it was rather warm. I didn't mind though. Maybe I lost 1/4 of an ounce sweating.

He took me out to lunch and I had the best sweet potato fries that I have ever had. YUM! We have really had so much fun and I love keeping busy. Of course, I should be busy at my house. I'll get to it. One day but. . . not today!

Hugs and happy Friday to all.

Fortunately I had no pain with the broken tooth so other than dealing with a huge crater in my mouth it was fine until I got my crown yesterday. Advancements in dentistry are wonderful. Instead of taking an impression and waiting 2 weeks he just waved a wand in my mouth and an hour later I had a new tooth. He glued it in and voila!! All fixed! Evidently with age the teeth with huge fillings will end up with the same problem. Looks like I have just 1 other molar to deal with eventually.

We're going to have visitors in July. Our German exchange student from when our 2 kids were in high school is coming to America with her husband and 2 sons. They'll be here for 2-3 days and also stay with our daughter for 2 days. Can't wait to see her. But wait - gotta get this place in shape for them! It seems we always accomplish things better when we have a deadline.

Morning, all.

Another summery day here, and that might continue for a week. Oh, well, had to happen eventually ;)

Well, no problem. PA isn't part of New England :)

Noodling around ..

Willie, i love it when you post your songs, but on this one the guitar is overpowering your voice a bit. Can you maybe move the microphone to pick up your voice better? Or maybe it's the way the sound is picked up on the computer or maybe it's just my faulty hearing. My ears are as old as the rest of me and judging from the rest of me I'm certainly not as good as I used to be.
