I know, Katy, it's sad. That's what's so great about the Farmers Markets - too bad they're only seasonal. I have a food dehydrator I use a lot - affects the food's nutrition only minimally. That's the way the Indians used to do it, lol.

i have seen your 50% Indian blood is very strong, that's good it shows that you are not too addicted to the synthetic world , i like that in you

I try to buy fresh and whatever's in season, but even that is tricky. Why is Trader Joe importing greenhouse tomatoes from Holland to California????

I love farmers markets; we have one right here where we live every Saturday morning. And I try to buy whatever is grown locally. And there is a great family-owned farm nearby; they have a delightful produce stand open year round, so I shop there also. But this is California; people in other parts of the country don't have that luxury.

Well, I was lazy this year and dint plant anything in my yard. But, ppl have success here in my area of growing year round, so I guess I could still put something in.

My veggies get mostly eaten by rabbits and opossums, so I have to have a fence around them... But I always grow some greens (lettuce, endive, kale) and some radishes in wintertime, and tomatoes, peppers and squashes in the summer. And herbs always! I have to have my parsley, chives, dill, terragon, basil, mint etc...

Raised beds are great for growing your food in small places--and no weeding!

Katy , the soil in here is like sand, local food taste like nothing , i enjoyed the fruits when i was in California

I didn't know that Florida had poor soil. But it can be improved, for a home grower! Home Depot is your friend! :)

My kids love veggies because they grew up with a vegetable garden; they planted and watered and harvested everything--and of course they wanted to eat what they produced! Win win!

Yeah, I love the raised beds. I have even planted some in pots, but the raised bed - or square foot gardening - is the way to go. You plant more than I do, Katy - I'm impressed! I like to make cucumber water, so that's always my favorite to watch gro in anticipation.

It's fun! And it's magical. I love working in the garden, getting my hands dirty. :D
