Hiya VG. Did you work on that blank any yet?? (just wondering)

I'm using a Dremel Tool and a 1.5" Cut Off Disc on the blank. I'm holding the blank in the fingers of one hand, and pressing it against the spinning disc. I'm actually getting it pretty round, but the cutting has slowed since the squared edges are gone (and maybe the disc has dulled). The blank gets pretty hot. So I'm taking my time with it. I'll have it round and ready to coil tomorrow. The cutting edge of the disc isn't as long as the blank, so I have something of a handle to spin it with, while pressing it against the disc with my index finger. This ain't no way to try to do mass production, but for a single shot, it's working.

:D

Sounds tedious, but good :thumb: I hope it works well! I almost bought one of the blocks, but talked myself out of it for now. I'd like to try some of the vertical coil "bird house" types the other guys are doing eventually.

I'm rounding it with a Dremel Tool and a 1.5" Cutting Disc. I hold it with thumb and middle finger of left have, and press it again the spinning disc with the index finger. The cutting is going slower since the squared edges are gone, and maybe the disc had dulled, but I have it near perfectly round. The blank is longer that the cutting area of the disc, so I have something of a handle while spinning the blank. The blank gets hot, so I'm taking my time. This ain't no way to try to do mass production, but for a one-shot, it's working OK. I should have it ready to coil tomorrow.

Hi VG!

Oh, ok, I'll google and see if I can get it or I'll ask Lissy.

To whitelist is to add a contact so their mail doesn't go into the Spam thingy. I wish I knew also how to delete contacts. I'll try to figure it out from my best friend, Google.

Since you're probably using gmail online via a web browser like IE, the contacts are probably stored in an area of gmail online. Look through the tabs or different sections. Maybe even in the area where you write/compose a new email. If you are using a program like Outlook or Windows Live Mail, they will be stored in the program.

An FYI drop-off:

The newest hidden name for MSG is E621. It is hidden in what they call Vanillin. If you look at the label on Nutella, for example, and see the ingredient, Vanillin (WTH?) … your healthy Nutella is loaded with MSG.:(

Vanillin:
A crystalline compound found in vanilla beans and some balsam resins; used in perfumes and flavorings.

So are you saying they are lacing Vanillin with MSG?

Talk about tedious!!! IDK how they do it. The AO must be a lot tougher than some give it credit for. I've been very careful with this block because I don't want to break it. But maybe it doesn't get brittle until it's been used for a while. But how does one get those corners and wick hole in a new birdhouse without breaking a few eggs?

I will say that the AO isn't nearly as brittle as the FC, at least in my experience. I have a "tin of shame" with a bunch of little pieces of FC, that stuff breaks when I look at it (yep, there's an ugly joke in there somewhere :D). All of my broken AO wicks only snapped in one place. I do think all of the ceramics are delicate, but the AO wins for longevity. I think I remember reading a post or two about the AO becoming more brittle once it has been repeatedly heated and cooled, but IIRC it was theory and not proven.

The best I can tell, Gdeal (I think it is Gdeal) starts with a tiny block, drills the hole for the wick, and then shapes the outside. He definitely starts out with a plan first. He admits to trashing a few of them, but somehow I imagine I would trash many more if/when I attempt it.

I've been doing emails and PMs, missing posts. Sorry y'all. I'm taking care of business.

I got a particular Mechanical mod from a friend in trade for some things I wasn't using. The switch was shoddy, but has gone totally bad now. It works, but the ohms through it are between 20Ω to 50Ω, randomly, so it is totally unusable, even with a Kick 2 inside. I tried to rebuild it, but when that didn't help, I wrote to the Vendor. I was told they had no replacement parts, and the Mech was out of production (after only being on the market for a very few months, mind you), so there would be no replacement Mech, either. So I wrote to the manufacturer. The website says Lifetime Warranty, so I asked for a new switch.

They told me the Mech was out of production and there were no replacement parts. So I asked how they claimed Lifetime Warranty, if they don't hold any parts or full units in reserve for this purpose. They said they only responded because they felt sorry for me. I mean to tell you that I hit the roof, and I got nasty with them. I threatened them with telling everyone on ECF, and the whole of the Internet, that they in fact do not have a Lifetime Warranty, and they do not stand behind their products at all. I told them, "It would be so much cheaper for you to just send me a damn switch."

This, apparently, got their attention. I got bumped up the ladder, and I received an email today from a man in China with that Manufacturer who sells to the Vendor I got the Mech from. He said that he would send me a new switch the next time that Vendor placed an order with them. He said he would notify the Vendor that the switch was for Me, and they would have to send it on to me, but that it could take a month, more or less. Needless to say, I thanked him, and said the wait would be OK. Now I just have to contact the Vendor to remind them that I have this email from China, that the switch is being sent for Me, and to give them my address again, just in case. I don't need any more mix-ups. I'm putting a Sticky Note on my Desktop as a reminder.

Stand Up for yourself, people!!! I did. I was actually very surprised that it worked. I figured they'd just ignore me, but it worked, and I'm glad it did. I really would have posted EVERYWHERE about them (I've already done it about one product - leaving the vendor out of it), but I'm really glad I didn't have to.

Yes, I've read that FC2000 was horribly brittle. People would crack a brand new wick just trying to coil it. I think that's when they started the hot-wrap procedures, but I really don't know. BJ43 told me the BD13, and then AO, was much less brittle, and that he never broke one trying to get a coil on it. Sounded good to me. BJ also said that FC2000 didn't wick worth a flip in capillary action - wicking Upward. He said that AO just barely falls short of #500 SS Mesh. Sounded even better!!! :D

TY VG, I'll take a look at gmail it today. Just starting my day ... had a bad dream at 4am (probably had nothing to do with all the jalapeno-soaked carrots I ate last night:laugh:) ... so I got up a little late. I can't just fall back to sleep after I wake up with dread and soaked in sweat. I was lost in a huge, underground metro subway station. You know the dreams where you can't run ... mine was that I couldn't talk ... jaws kind of paralyzed ... bizarre.

On the vanillin, here's a link: Love Nutella? Here's Why You Should Never Eat It And Opt For A Healthier Alternative Recipe | Health

There are lots of sources if you google vanillin msg.

Happy Sabbath Saturday to the Beach!:)

This ought to make you feel better about your computer skills!

Tech support: What kind of computer do you have?
Customer: A white one.

Customer: Hi, this is Celine .. I can't get my diskette out.
Tech support: Have you tried pushing the Button?
Customer: Yes, sure, it's really stuck.
Tech support: That doesn't sound good; I'll make a note.
Customer: No , wait a minute. I hadn't inserted it yet... it's still on my desk... Sorry.

Tech support: Click on the 'my computer' icon on to the left of the screen.
Customer: Your left or my left?

Tech support: Good day. How may I help you?
Male customer: Hello... I can't print.
Tech support: Would you click on 'start' for me and....
Customer: Listen pal; don't start getting technical on me! I'm not Bill Gates.

Customer: Hi, good afternoon, this is Martha, I can't print. Every time I try, it says 'Can't find printer'. I've even lifted the printer and placed it in front of the monitor, but the computer still says he can't find it.

Customer: I have problems printing in red..
Tech support: Do you have a color printer?
Customer: Aaaah....................thank you.

Tech support: What's on your monitor now, ma'am?
Customer: A teddy bear my boyfriend bought for me at the 7-11.

Customer: My keyboard is not working anymore.
Tech support: Are you sure it's plugged into the computer?
Customer: No. I can't get behind the computer.
Tech support: Pick up your keyboard and walk 10 paces back.
Customer: OK
Tech support: Did the keyboard come with you?
Customer: Yes
Tech support: That means the keyboard is not plugged in. Is there another keyboard?
Customer: Yes, there's another one here. Ah that one does work.

Tech support: Your password is the small letter 'a' as in apple, a capital letter V as in Victor, the number 7.
Customer: Is that 7 in capital letters?

Customer: I can't get on the Internet.
Tech support: Are you sure you used the right password?
Customer: Yes, I'm sure. I saw my colleague do it.
Tech support: Can you tell me what the password was?
Customer: Five dots.

Tech support: What anti-virus program do you use?
Customer: Netscape.
Tech support: That's not an anti-virus program.
Customer: Oh, sorry... Internet Explorer.

Customer: I have a huge problem. A friend has placed a screen saver on my computer, but every time I move the mouse, it disappears.

Tech support: How may I help you?
Customer: I'm writing my first email.
Tech support: OK, and what seems to be the problem?
Customer: Well, I have the letter 'a' in the address, but how do I get the little circle around it?

A woman customer called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer.
Tech support: Are you running it under windows?
Customer: 'No, my desk is next to the door, but that is a good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window, and his printer is working fine.'

And last but not least...

Tech support: 'Okay Bob, let's press the control and escape keys at the same time. That brings up a task list in the middle of the screen. Now type the letter 'P' to bring up the Program Manager.'
Customer: I don't have a P.
Tech support: On your keyboard, Bob.
Customer: What do you mean?
Tech support: 'P'.....on your keyboard, Bob.
Customer: I'M NOT GOING TO DO THAT!

Good morning everyone! Have a good day :)

Hello Dearest.

It's not "Morning" still, but it is for me. I just got up. I stayed up late last night after a long day of work, and coming home to emails and PMs. After that and playing here a bit, I watched Netflix, and caught up on lost sleep today.

It's SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
