When I started back then, I signed on with ASI in Dallas. I got great prices and could build a PC and make a small profit. Anymore, their prices are about the same as places like Tiger Direct, and they don't consider you a real customer when you're not buying in bulk or at some kind of minimum. Buying the parts to build a PC today, I can buy one already built with a warranty, so I don't do that anymore. I just buy parts for repairs as needed, and don't even carry much of a stock.

That's what my desktop is ... an ASUS - bought the CPU & keyboard only - no extras. It's getting old though - not to me, but to the computer world a 2 yr old CPU is old.

Nah!!! Windows 7 is still going to be here a long time... a very long time, I hope!!!

Glad to hear that:) ... I fight change, unfortunately. I just get comfortable with what I'm doing, and then someone wants to change my world.:(

I know!!! I fought moving to Win7 from XP, only to find out how much the same it really is. CHANGE is Win8!!! Totally foreign and hostile for me.

Nice chatting ya both for a bit ... gotta type out a PM, then finish my kitchen work ... had to unclog my drain ... not sure how, but the problem was in the dishwasher line backing up through the garbage disposal.

It's just as well, I don't like the way my DW cleans anyway, so I pull the racks out and use them as drying racks while I'm handwashing ... dishes are now coming out crystal clear and shiny again.

Toodleoo, my friends!

Win8 has a free Upgrade to 8.1 that puts the Desktop back more to normal, with the Start Button and Program Menu. I haven't seen it yet, but that tells me how much others hated Win8 as well. M$ never would have done that without public demand. They wanted to do away with the Desktop altogether.

I have Win7 as my mainstay. Everything I need is on there. My XP PC still works for "Downloads" (if you know what I mean). :D

I still keep an XP in the back .. I just link thru the router and use it for storage ... but even for that its slow lol That's a back closet project down the road ... but you are right, Win7 handles all of that no prob ... and it seems very stable and also the most able so far of "yaking care" of itself when issues come up. I have nothing but praise for its ease of use. win8 is for touch screen as far as I'm concerned .. don't even want to explore it
