How to Keep Cut Flowers Fresh | RealSimple.com

To keep the cut flowers fresh longer, one needs to minimize the growth of bacteria in the water and to provide nourishment to replace what the flower would have gotten had it not been cut. I add a few drops of vodka or vinegar to the vase water for antibacterial action along with 1 teaspoon sugar. Change the water every other day, refreshing the vodka and sugar each time.

found this....

According to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, different additives can be used to prolong the lives of fresh cut flowers. Experiments were performed with various substances mixed with water, including aspirin, vitamin pills, vinegar, pennies, and flower food to test their effect on cut flowers' lifespans. Each plant was placed in the same environment and the same type of plant was used in each vase.

OMG, that reminds me of my last class reunion. I have another one coming up in May. But ,,,

At my last HS class reunion, I fell asleep on a beach chair at the waterline. I woke up around this time of day (dawn), the tide had come in and my feet were getting wet. It was pretty wild, in a tame sort of way, LOL.
