So, in trying to decide to vote for Lugar vs. Mourdock tomorrow, I sent both of their campaigns the following questions:
---
Do you believe that American smokers should be told the truth about the relative risks of various tobacco products, with the intent that smokers who switch to a reduced harm alternative would suffer far less morbidity and disease?
Do you believe that the FDA, since taking control of tobacco regulation as part of the 2009 FSPTCA, has benefited the public health with the actions they have taken thus far with respect to tobacco regulations? If so, how and why?
As Senator, would you work to reduce the current regulatory burden which many smaller manufacturers of reduced harm smoking alternatives currently face, so more of these products could be brought to market, and so that they could truthfully be marketed as a reduced harm product?
Have you ever received a donation or any form of endorsement from a pharmaceutical or tobacco company?
---
I got a call back from the Lugar campaign and basically got a non-answer. The guy noted that Lugar sponsored removing the tobacco subsidy, raising cig taxes, increasing cig warning labels, and the SCHIP bill. Okay, interesting, but still a non-answer for my actual questions. I still have not heard back from the Mourdock camp.
I thought I would post this here and see if any other Hoosiers had any input on Lugar vs. Mourdock with respect to Tobacco Harm Reduction or e-cigarettes.
What say ye Hoosiers?
