I have been vaping for a month now. In my first month I spent over $500. I did purchase an MVP 2.0 shine so that was big hit. I have also purchased many different tanks, batteries and accessories to try. I'm curious and I also am hoping some of you will make me feel better. How much did you spend in your first months of vaping?

Setting up and finding what worked for me cost me the same, if not a little more, than smoking so I saw no financial gain initially. Once I got something that satisfied me, the savings rolled in. It depends how long it takes you to get to the point you are happy.

The other problem is "shiny" - I like shiny, and new, so it's almost an endless circle at times :)

I'd reckon I've spent at least £80 a month on liquid and equipment in the first four months, less now I'm settled and DIY'ing liquids.

YMMV

I dropped around $200 my first month and didn't even have an mvp to show for it. My local shop didn't help a lot in educating me but did lighten my wallet quite a bit for shoddy gear and sub-par juice. ECF and several people answering questions helped me be smarter about my purchases and even though I still spent on gear and juice I am much more aware of what I doing and I feel better about not being ripped off. I found after I had a good setup I could wait longer to find a deal on what I wanted and made less impulsive buys. I hope that helps or at least shows you are not alone in expense department.

See the handle. Lol

I purchased an evod starter kit and stuck with juice at the .50/ml price point or lower. In the first few months I added a mini pt2 to have a glass tank, otherwise that starter kit served me very well for about 4 months and I still use it when out and about.

All gear is genuine kanger:

Evod kit: $34
Mini pt2: $12
Extra charger: $4
Evod/pt2 coils: Estimated $12/month (2 boxes of five coils, more than I actually used)
Juice purchases: Estimated $40/month (some more, some less)

First 4 months of vaping: Approx. $250 in total costs. (Would have been slightly higher, I was given several "premium" juice samples from a well-meaning soul, but many I could not vape so it's hard to say exactly how much those little bottles affected my costs)

4 months of cigs would have run me about $1000.

I just set a budget and stuck to it. I upgraded to larger capacity vv egos and a couple of full size pt2's at about 4 months in, when I had a little more money and knew for sure I'd be vaping long term. My next upgrade was recent, adding an MVP at about the 8-month mark. I'm satisfied and done buying hardware until what I have wears out.

If you have money to spend and it brings you pleasure to experiment, go for it! Nothing wrong with that. And you don't need anyone's permission or approval but your own (or maybe the other half, if applicable).

But if that's not your situation (or regardless of finances you just don't feel the need) it's entirely possible to vape on a budget, find vaping enjoyable, ditch the cigs and save tons of money even in the early stages.

I started in november. I hit break even march 1st, based on the 1/2 pad I was on previously. Also I'm in sc so tobacco is much cheaper here than most of the US. Then I bought a provari, then a mech, then a kf clone, and recently a reo/ rm2.0 plus some 5 pawns liquid which is pricey.... I'll break even around feb 1st of next year if I buy nothing else. I have enough DIY supplies in liquid I could in theory do that. I won't. I smoked for almost a decade, not long compared to most so I haven't seen any real health benefits because I never suffered much from cigs but not hearing my wife complain I smell like smoke = worth every penny.

I started several years ago when the main equipment you could find were JoyeTech Egos and carts, so my initial year wasn't that bad on cost.
You don't even want to know how much I've in the past year though! :p
I've begun to level out again, but only because my wife made me, and divorce would negate any savings! J/K

umm, well haven't spent more on vape gear and supplies than I haven't spent on smokes for the last year, which was 3.5k, last time I looked. But then, I have invested heavily into great vape gear. have 4 high amp regulated mods and 6 mechs, 3 are 26650's, and I have a tank or dripper to top every single mod.

Heck, usually take 3 mods with me to work. Was thinking the other day, just in my locker was $1000 worth of vape gear alone. Which isn't even half of my collection as of this posting.

I use the counter as an investment cue. Once it's 1k more than my total investment so far, then it's justifiable vape gear quest!! But, for something to be purchased now, it must improve and or compliment my collection. Getting tougher to find something that will improve what I have acquired so far. But that just makes it so easy to buy when something comes along and catches my eye. Shinning stars must be quickly grasped before they drift from sight and opportunity is lost.. lol.

Same thing here. My first month of vaping I spent as much or more than I would have in cigs. However months later, I'm saving lots of money because I already have all the hardware and now just order spare parts and e-liquid.

Even at $500, you have some cool equipment that will last years or more.

Also saving gas because I don't need to take short tips to the smoke shop every day. Short car trips kill your MPG.

I found places that sell the MVP for under $40.00 and i won't pay extra for bling , don't know what you paid for it by your comment of a "big hit" but the MVP standard edition (no bling) is very reasonable .

You can get wraps for them if you like bling. I have a kayfun clone that works great which i picked up for under $20.00 , a few tanks and i recoil my own head's which save me a lot of $$.

The only pricey thing now is juice but i'm working on that , you can get into a never ending money go round but i found that unnecessary and stick with simple and reliable instead of continued spending on mods.

When i read a veterans post in the "ask the veterans " forum in a thread titled "what comes close to a Provari " which said :

IMHO, the MVP is very close to a ProVari in vape quality.

That just solidified my decision on the MVP even further , especially when you consider the Provari is close to five times the price.

When I first started, I think I bought everything I saw on this forum. About month 3, I looked around and said--you have enough stuff now, so cool it. This month I spent only $29 for my zamplebox. When you consider that I was smoking almost 2 packs a day at $7/pack and that money literally burned up, vaping is a huge bargain....even if you are spending on "toys," you have something to show for it in the end.

I spent more during the first months of vaping because I was trying out different atomizers and buying pre-mixed juice. Still, I was probably spending 25% of what I spent on cigarettes.

Now, with three solid Sigelei Zmax V3s and a V5 (I like having back-ups), carto tanks and DIY juice I spend about 10% of what I spent on smoking annually.

I didn't spend that much starting out but made up for it in the following months. I have recently slowed way down and am now making up for all that spending. At least I have loads to show for it and all will be used. Some of what I bought has been sold to potential vapers so I don't feel too bad about those purchases since I made my money back. I no longer smoke so I really don't feel bad, LoL. I'm glad I finally got a handle on it and now only buy what I really need to keep me and my fellow vaperers vaping.
