i vape like smoking a cigar. you get high enough nicotine/ more efficient devices you wont have to inhale at all.

also remember that cigs had added ingredients to help keep the airways dilated so you wouldnt stop smoking. it takes time for those damaged lungs to adjust to something that causes restrictions without additional help to keep going. after a couple months I noticed the lung problems begin to fade.

I have found if the VG content of my liquid gets higher than the pg my lungs start to hurt thru the course of the day and sometimes light headaches. If I switch back to pg higher than VG in the mix it all goes away.

Hmm. Is it more viscous? I don't brew my own juice, at least not yet, so I haven't seen them in their raw states.

Sucking with our mouths does use our lungs. That's part of the problem. If you spent the entire day drinking through a straw, your lungs would eventually ache.

Ever heard of circular breathing? It's a technique used for wind instruments where you fill your mouth with air from your lungs and then use your cheeks and tongue to push it out while simultaneously breathing air into your lungs so you are constantly blowing air through your instrument. Now reverse this. I find circular breathing where you're constantly inhaling much easier and have used this technique to take massive bongrips  The trick is closing off your throat so that you're not directly inhaling. Obviously you don't need a continuous stream of vapor going into your lungs but just try to close off your throat so that you're only using your cheek and tongue muscles to get the vapor into your mouth. Trust me, it works. I think that's what DionR meant by "puff"

Edit: sorry for the repost, I'm using a shaky internet connection and thought it didnt go through the first time

I'm surprised no one has mentioned air hole diameter, you need something with an airier draw. What are you currently using?

It's a Kanger P2. I know it's not the best, but it's hard to justify a huge outlay when I don't even know if this will really work.

This "pretend you're sucking a thorn out of your finger" thing seems promising. I've gotten several good hits without making the ache worse. Contrary to what some people think, it does use the lungs -- human anatomy is what it is -- but much less so. Perhaps I can develop a new method with vaping, since it's still early vaping days for me.

It is just like sipping cola through a straw. You don't use your lungs to pull the cola up the straw. I usually take two hits back to back. I draw the first hit into my mouth, inhale, draw the second hit into my mouth while exhaling the first hit through my nose, and then inhale the second hit. Just like hotboxing a cig. but limited to two hits.

I have, but it's rather difficult to master. I have good lung capacity, so I've never needed it for singing.

The harmonica is my wind instrument, so inhalation is a vital part of the process and circular breathing never comes up.

Right now I'm thinking that I can adjust my technique enough to clear this problem up. A couple of other newbies have said that they're experiencing it also, so it must not be that uncommon.

Pulling the cheeks sharply inward pushes air out of the mouth, and releasing it causes air to be drawn back in from both directions (lungs and vaporizer). My current theory is that the key is to pull and push the cheeks with a fair bit of force. I think this is what people mean when they say that they don't suck. It's that bellows approach, but with the mouth clamped tightly enough that little vapor is lost.

These experiments are fun. :)

There's one member of my family that struggled with this. I recommended buying a cheap pipe and some pipe tobacco to practice "proper" vaping with. They were, incidentally, an X-unmentionable-substance-smoker who smoked cigarettes that way too so learning to use a pipe helped them get off the vape-the-way-I-smoked train. Pipe smokers get all the nic and flavor they need without the deep lung inhale. The nature of the smoke prevents them from taking it too far into the lungs.

I'm only two weeks in and I get it too - it was much worse at the beginning but I was sucking vapour into my mouth then doing full lung inhales (as I did with cigarettes) - now I just inhale slightly and blow the vapour out my nose or mouth mostly.

If I've really been hitting it, my lungs still ache a bit but I'm going to try a few different ratios of PG/VG liquids to see if that helps :)

I use a 30PG/70VG and I have never ran into this problem. I have heard that the PG is for more of a "Throat Hit" and VG is for a large amount of Vapor. I'm assuming since the PG gives a feeling of a "Throat Hit" then it must also be more harse on your lungs/throat.

Now I vape Alot, I mean like I'm hitting it constantly all hours of the day, although I get a slightly "Weird" feeling in my chest, but its not what I would call "Uncomfortable". The feeling I get is exactly like if you walked a Quarter mile in a high Humidity enviroment.

Now I am no "Vaping Master", but I believe it is the PG in the solution that is bothering your Lungs.

what equipment and liquid are you using? Moderation helps . I was a pack a day smoker and crossed over to vaping in one day I quit smoking. And I have yet to encounter any problem vaping other than cotton mouth if I don't drink anything . Hope you find the right E-cig that works for you as you should have no discomfort . As like anything you do if it hurts you stop and figure out the fix starting here is the right thing to do as you will find many pro vapers with an abundance of knowledge ...GL.

Not sure if your puffing with only your mouth. I can breath in and out of my nose at the same time I use my cheeks and tongue to draw or puff. I do not use my lungs, my tongue totally blocks the passageway to my throat as I pull it back like a plunger.

Exactly the way I do it, too. If I were to suck with my lungs, I'd probably bust a rib coughing!

I had major issues when I started vaping with a really bad sore throat and I couldn't understand why it was happening...apparently lotsa other newbies experience really sore throats too. if I remember correctly my lungs/chest was also hurting a little. everybodys "body" is different and we all react differently to certain stimulants and outside chemicals that are being introduced newly to our body. I think your issue is more as a matter of being a new vapor user and your lungs/body is gonna need to simply adjust to the new chemicals. however you could also be having a physical reaction to a particular chemical that is in your ejuice you are vaping or could be just that the ratio of pg/vg of your ejuice is not working well for you and your body/lungs. could also be the delivery device you are vaping with or even the amount/ratio of nicotine strength you are vaping. eventually (months into vaping) my sore throat vanished and I became a full-time vaporer...I have now been cig free for 9 months after smoking cigs for 36 years so im happy I was able to withstand some physical discomfort from the pains until my body adjusted to the new chemicals being intake. you might try if you can afford it financially to buy some other ejuices to try out with different combinations of nicotine and different ratios of pg/vg. and sometimes the problem could just simply be the device for vapor delivery you are using. some newbies are allergic/sensitive to the filler material inside of cartomizers, or maybe if you are using a variable voltage mod type battery device you might be vaping too hot a vape...I believe the key to becoming a successful vaporer is finding the right ejuices and using a delivery device that works for your own body. good luck in your vape quest !!!

A ProTank 1 has a more airy draw, I have a ProTank Mini II and find it fairly airy but have no experience with the full size. I believe you can get a PT 1 base on the PT 2 for an airier draw but don't quote me on that (if so it would be inexpensive).

I'm sure something with a lighter draw would be easier on you.

I don't inhale the vapor into my lungs. I close the back of my throat and inhale into my mouth then exhale through my nose. The nicotine is absorbed through the nasal passages and not the lungs when you vape.

Sometimes I will inhale into my mouth a second time and open my throat a little bit and exhale through my mouth.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you go to your doctor and get it seen to. It could be something totally different from vaping. Good luck!
