geraniums are great, pretty much low maintenance and hardy in all kinds of weather. it amazes me what they ask for the pre-planted pots and hanging baskets. i can make my own for 1/3 of what they want. the best hanging baskets i ever saw were at six flags by st. louis. they had them everywhere, and they were all huge, healthy and lush. i wanted to ask someone what they did to make them that way, but never did.
Yup, and we have pretty much full sun in the back, nearly all day, so they do really well, but I have to water diligently, sometimes twice a day. When we have those horrific stints of miserably hot weather with no rain, I have to move them next to the house so they only get morning sun. Hence the urn type planters. The previous owners landscaped with various stuff, so really just a little color is all I need....that said, some of the landscaping could use some re-doing...LOL....simply because of age, somethings just get too large over the years, and pruning just doesn't cut it anymore....LOL...no pun intended.......

I love the old fashioned types of flowers. Zinnias, marigolds, petunias. Mostly annuals are my favorites to use because I love things that bloom all summer. I really love all the different varieties of coleus too.

Yes, prices are crazy. I was able to find mine for $25 each, and they're HUGE. So while I hate paying that, they certainly weren't out of line. I've seen them go for $35 a piece for the really big ones. They really are pretty too, I'll try to get a couple pics, they're COVERED with blooms. But....ugh....they're DRIPPERS. Ah well, there aren't really perfect varieties. But YES...oh...so...easy...care!!! And just drop in and you're done, at least for "planting"......

The last year I did the mixed planters, I ended up with a really sore back for a few weeks, from being bent over the wheel barrow because I don't have a planting bench....and a trip to the Chiropractor.

Aaron, your pics are WONDERFUL!!! You are so very talented!!

Dale that is AWESOME news!!! I know you've just been miserable!!

Okay, I have to get busy. Laundry, paperwork, lots of fun stuff in store for me today.

Good Morning Jerry!!!

Oh, and Kelli...........I DID ask at Six Flags one year, and you are SPOT ON, they are BEAUTIFUL!! They have a full time staff that keeps the planters and everything just perfectly manicured. They said that they have multiple planters, and if one needs attention, it is taken out and another one put in it's place and they just re-do and rotate everything. But, I haven't been there in years, so I don't know if that's still what they do.

Good morning all. :)

Aaron... you whipped up a beautiful breakfast! The fruit salad and hash browns are perfection. (I can't eat until 10 or 11:00.)

Hope you had a good time Deej... at least the parts you remember.

All of your flower planting sounds wonderful. I'm so sad that I don't get to plant this year. I may have to cave and at least do the planters on my porch. (Those usually hold geraniums.) Geraniums are annuals here. They can't take the cold and die with the first hard freeze, but they bloom all summer, so yay!

it rained last night... otherwise weather was good.

plane change in Dallas.
I hated to change planes, all the waiting involved. Except for one time in Chicago's O'hare airport, it was get to the next terminal, board the plane and off we went. No waiting, but I had to run through the airport to get there in time. Ah, I was young so the running didn't bother me......much.

Two reasons dale... 1) Drought. It's so bad here... my grass is crunchy dead... trees are dying, etc. And 2) our septic system has fallen apart. We have to replace it and the new county rules are going to cost us big time because of the size/shape of our property and because we have a stream running through it. (When we aren't in drought. :glare:) All of that means that we'll most likely put a septic tank back where the old one is (in the back) and then have to pump it to the front yard to a water treatment tank and a drip line system to disperse it. So in short... they're most likely going to completely tear up my front yard.:cry::cry::cry: Years of work... gone, and we'll have to start all over. No point in planting anything if it's just going to get destroyed.
I usually plant the two planters on either side of the porch steps with geraniums. Then I have two good size flower beds... one I fill with snapdragons and the other with gerbera daisies or larkspur. Then there are all the spots where I tuck in things like pansies/viola's. So pretty! Before the drought I did way more, but now I'm just trying to keep a few perennials alive.

    Oh Kayte:cry:
That picture is soooo beautiful, you have such lovely talents.
That's awful about all the work you're going to have to have done:( We're on a septic system too but have been very blessed so far.
    I love pansy's:wub:

Just a couple of clarifications, I can get on-line all month long but have to use dial-up when my "so called" high speed gets used up.
And now I don't know if I'm getting this new dog or not! Hubby seems to be waffling  Guess I'll find out later tonight when he gets home ... sigh ... now I have my heart set on the little girl :(

I just love your pics Kayte!! So sorry to hear all that!! We had to run new lines off our septic tank at our other house. We ended up having to do it ourselves because of the county restrictions. The licensed septic people couldn't do it because of the rules, but as a homeowner, we could do it ourselves...go figure. Our property was shaped weird too, and because of the proximity to the lake, ours had to go in the front yard too. We didn't have to treat is, but it had to be deep. Thankfully we work for an equipment company and were able to get a mini excavator from one of the other stores to use. But yes, you have a major project & $$ to spend ahead of you it sounds like.
(((HUGS))), AND your pretty flower beds......that just stinks....again, no pun intended.:(

I really wish we could send you some of our rain. Crunchy grass scares me for the risk of fire aspect!! We had that last year, severe drought.
