Good morning! Is it time to go back to bed yet? :D

Dalegirl... no cell phone here either. I've never had one. We got our first computer because it was a 'must have' for homeschooling. I didn't really want one and knew it was a trap! I was right! I think the internet is an amazing place though. To be able to meet people from all over the world is mind boggling and so 'normal' now! I'm fine with my laptop and my land line phone. For now anyway.

Nice carpet deej.

I seriously wish sometimes I didn't own my cell phones or computers. I love technology and all but it would be so nice to be disconnected for a while, unreachable and free. Taking that trip in August and going to leave my phones at home I think.

that sounds like a terrific vacation!!!

is why I took the plunge to go off the net grid too.. makes me happier. :)

Yeah.. same here. We don't need the extra bill. And I really don't want to end up so tied to it that I can't go anywhere without it. Like my son... Mr. Gadget.
I use my email to text people... it goes straight to their phones.

So I have a question for everyone. Well... two.
    1) How/why did you start smoking?
    2) What was if for you personally that led you to quit and switch to ecigs?

deej - you are just too funny!!!

    Good morning everyone!!

So, I kinda feel bad calling my DH a techno gadget ho bag last night...:lol:, because he truthfully is very conservative when it comes to buying tech stuff. I just like to tease him.
He never buys until the pricing comes down, he researches thoroughly before he buys, and then somehow always finds that one AWESOME sale.....so, forgive the clarification, but now I feel better.......:laugh:

You know, as for cell phones and bills, years ago, if my land line phone would've cost what my cell phone costs with the data package, I'd have come UNGLUED. Now, like a herd of cattle, most of us somehow just accept it. I applaud those who haven't given in, because I know that I truly could do without it. I like the security of a cell phone for emergencies while commuting/traveling but I really could live just fine with the bare bones plan.
THAT said, I do have to add that when DH and I were in Vegas a couple of years ago, we drove out to the Grand Canyon. It really was super CREEPY to be so far out, no cell phone coverage, no sign of civilization for who knows how many miles, no one knew where we were, etc.....seriously,all kinds of creepy.

So, ANYHOODLES....it's supposed to be pretty warm here today (94), and tomorrow (95)...I've already done what I needed to do outside. It's a beautiful day though!! Hopefully we'll have a breeze and it won't be too bad.

Aaron, you're always running here and there to work. As you said yesterday, it's probably best that you are so very careful with your diet. I really need to put more effort into mine.:p

I know with google talk (now called hangouts) I can send text to phones anytime.. no need for a cell

I can do that too with a few people .... if I really want to!

Started because? Hummm, I guess for two reason's: grew up with smoker's so that was an influence; then to "fit in with the wrong crowd".
    2) Haven't quit completely yet and may never (2-4 cigs a day doesn't bother me after a 2PAD habit); switched because I saw my daughter's set up & just had to have one! After that it was all purely accident! Nice accident huh:?:

    hmm..

me.. I smoked when I was mmm about 11 or 12.. why? My parents did.. my friends did.. I tried, I liked, I smoked.

the switch to ecigs.... well I tried them back in 2005-6 ish.. and they were horrible.. had seen an ad for them on the net back then when I designed web sites. I even did some graphics for the company, however.. their product was so defunctive in so many ways.. charger would fry if you looked at it wrong.. filters broke, and batteries.. well.. I had one explode, one crack and many just stop working. total of over 6 months trying it out.. I walked away and thought maybe if they improve at a later bit, I'd retry.. (heck, I even got a few of my friends to try with me)

Now.. it's been a month since my last smoke.. why? because I am trying to live better. Knowing I can get me back into shape, is my main goal. My next is so I will stop being so hard on me, and try to live a bit longer on healthier choices, so I can be here for my kids. My youngest son pulls for me so much, I swear, he is my number 1 fan.. Without him.. I probably would be smoking it up at a bar, and waiting for the afterlife.. :)

but I am wanting this life I have now.. to share it with him.. and maybe find a friend to share it with the both of us.. someday..

    1) How: Originally, a friend would swipe them from her mom./Why: I guess we thought we were missing something, and that it was cool. I think an older brother of hers kind of led us into it...he was really cute.....LOL.

2)Deep down I knew it was just terrible for my health, then one night I saw a Blu commercial, and even though I'd seen them many times before, it kind of hit me that I should try it. So I actually first tried a disposable, who knows what brand, from a convenience store/gas station. I was really impressed, and just kind of "went" with it. I was off the stinkies within one week of trying that first disposable.

Lori... your DH sounds like my son in law. He is a gadget geek (I say that with the utmost respect!) And the deals he finds never cease to amaze me!

Safety is the only reason I've ever wanted a cell phone and I admit, that's a dang strong reason to get one! There have definitely been a few times I would have used one. But, I'm still here and kickin' so I guess it wasn't 'that' necessary.

Girl, that is AWESOME!!! GOOD FOR YOU!! You're BOTH worth it, and I'm so glad you're on your way!!! Glad we're ALL on our way!!!

Ah Lori, you hit the nail on the only reason I SHOULD have a cell phone. With my hearing problem making long distance trips alone is a bit nerve racking to say the least. If I broke down somewhere I would be at the mercy of whoever came along & these days that's really a scarey thought:(
Yes, mine also has navigation, so that is wonderful too! I don't have to go to unfamiliar areas too often, but we've used it traveling, and it's just wonderful!!! Except if you're going to The Grand Canyon...print your map.......thankfully DH has the brain I didn't get.......:laugh:......except we ended up on roads that weren't even on the map!! We have a good time with it though.

    Morning everyone!

    Kayte let's see...
    1. I guess it was both social & experimenting in the beginning. Then I went to a gas station at 16 & the clerk never asked me for ID and it only got worse from there.

    2. I never really wanted to quit because I actually enjoyed smoking. It was relaxing for me. Then I was in another city for a district meeting & one of my colleuges had one. We talked about it & I started to do research but I still wasn't seriously ready to purchase. I read up on ecigs for weeks. Then last Thanksgiving weekend one of my moms good friends passed away at 55 from lung cancer. I placed my order immediately!! Took me 5 days to kick the cigs once it arrived & haven't had one since!

Okay, I need to get moving!!

Hi Chim!! (in case I miss you..) Sorry your schedule is crapola this week!! But you know, I had a neighbor who LOVED those hours. She worked 2 to 10. LOVED it. I guess it's all what you get used to. She loved to be outside, and she'd spend all morning outdoors. She said she could never do that working normal hours.

ETA: Of course she also worked for the telephone company, Ma Bell, back in the day...so it was a good gig...

Thanks Lori! I'm pretty used to it now but this 7 day stretch I'm working is the pits lol! Plus all of the weekends! Sometimes I just feel like I'm missing out on a lot...especially when it comes to being able to spend holidays with my family & missing out on things for my nieces & nephew. I try to get away as much as I can but they're growing up so fast!

I wouldn't like the weekends/holidays either. Been there, done that, soooo happy not to have to do that anymore. But you said you're working to try to get away from that, so hopefully that comes about sooner rather than later!!! Prayin for ya sweetie!!!:) Because, yes..they grow up in a blink.
