Argh, guess I still have plenty of the bad days left to balance my good days. Just spending today curled up near a fire on the couch, with a fuzzy ferret acting in place of my bedroom shoes.

Dang, now you have to add wash ferret to your to do list

Hope the good days start out weighing the bad soon :)

LoL, nah. Worst thing you can do for your own health and the ferrets is wash them. If you don't die during the process, it will cause stinky oils to be produced turning a perfectly clean smelling ferret into stinky one. Folks who have stinky ferrets are just people who don't understand how to take care of them properly. But I couldn't even imagine trying personally, that's picking a fight with a very strong, small animal full of sharp teeth and claws and low center of gravity. No winners in that outcome, just blood...LoL. I have survived my knife fight last week, not gonna push another one....hahaha.:D

JEEEEEZZZZZZZ, I am going insane today. The healing itchy-scratchy monster has taken hold and making me crazy. Anyone got any remedies for that, besides me scratching my wound raw. Already taking benedryl like crazy. But would love a rub on remedy if anyone has heard of one. My energy level is coming back a little today. I think my body was just using all of it's healing power on my back the last couple of days and just totally sucked my energy from everywhere else, as I have been very weak feeling. Also messed up my med schedule a couple of times and had to play chase the dragon's tail a few times now.

My wife makes a paste from vinegar and baking soda, it works great on mosquito bites. Not sure if it will help the healing itchiness. One of these might help

Nowadays they pump you up with a cocktail of antibiotics before, during and after surgery. You're probably healing at a record pace. A documentary I watched a while back that focused on itchy bug bites demonstrated that most topical remedies provide relief by limiting exposure of the site to oxygen or open air.

Having no idea what your care instructions are I would be inclined to try triple antibiotic ointment. I'm guessing though that your itch is probably deeper than just at the surface. The Benedryl may be the best you can do for that.

Hang in there bud, hopefully this part of the process passes quickly.

D_J, before you go applying ointment keep in mind that your wound needs air. If you go sealing it under ointment it could allow an infection to develop from trapped germs. Scratching at it can also break loose the newly forming skin cells and introduce bacteria into the sensitive area.
I recommend you put a very cold cloth on it after washing it. The cold will numb the itching. If it is keeping you from sleeping, then Benadryl cream (not ointment).

Doctor penuiness is correct, though here is another potential solution:

For years, summer after summer, I suffered what appeared to be a rash, in the same location (crook of the arm) opposite the elbow.

Visited doctor after Doctor each recommending a different cream or salve.

Eventually a non-US doctor recommended Witch Hazel (Hamamelis). End of problem. The good news about Hamamelis is that it dries very quickly, leaves no residue, while working its astringic Magic.

I keep a bottle in the medicine cabinet at all times.

Thanks everyone, but I have gone the route of doing nothing and tough it out, except of an occasional pat. After reviewing my instructions again, they clearly state not to use anything on the wound other than a daily shower with soap and water. Gone through too much to leave anything to chance. Even though a set of bear claw shredders would feel good raking across my back right about now....LoL...I keep popping an occasional benadryl and just give a gentle pat of the general area.

My next suggestion was going to be suck it up buttercup, sounds like your doing that already though.

:D
