A new study in Toxicology and Pharmacology reports on the chemical composition of e-cigarette vapor, and compares those results with cigarette smoke. The authors, Drs. Rana Tayyarah and Gerald A. Long, are employed by Lorillard tobacco Co., which would generally bar them from presenting their data in many journals or conferences, no matter how rigorous or valid the experimental technique and results might be. We here at ACSH have no such compunction.
The authors used standardized machine-puffing to measure constituents of e-cig vapor; they found nicotine, propylene glycol or glycerin, water, and flavors. Aerosol nicotine was 85 percent lower than cigarette smoke. Mainstream cigarette smoke (the same stuff a smoker inhales while smoking) had about 1,500 times more harmful and potentially-harmful constituents (HPHC) than e-cigarette aerosol, or puffing on room air. In sum: 1. HPHCs from e-cigs was equivalent to room air; 2. no cigarette-smoke-derived HPHCs were detected in e-cig vapor; 3. these results support those who advocate for the relative safety (“reduced exposure to toxicants”) of e-cigarettes, both for vapers and for bystanders ACSH’s Dr. Gil Ross had this comment: “I really have nothing much to add to the study’s summary and abstract. You get out what you put in, and e-cigarettes by and large have only a few chemicals, so there’s just not that much to breathe, either in or out. I am certain this study will change no minds in the hotbeds of anti-e-cig propaganda, mainly because the results do not conform to their agenda, but also because the authors work for Big tobacco. In my opinion, this study merely confirms the results many times before.”

Machine-puffed e-cigs yielded vapor containing exactly what you

If this has already been posted I do apologize..just thought it was a good read and wanted to share.

I agree, font makes my eyes blur and shake, even on the rest of this page after trying to read it :D

*Edit, I see you're already on it, thanks from me too! Had to copy into notepad and wait for my eyes to heal.

What font was that, it certainly had a strange effect on my vision/

I've got to remember that and no worry so much about being accused of plagiarism. Usually when I copy and paste a piece I just leave the anti plagiarism fronts alone. I think just posting a link to the original should do though. ;)

I like a good font, strange how sometimes we hate seeing the plain old norm, but then when it's changed it makes us feel weird.

I thought maybe it was just morning eyes, but I'm still seeing blurry kind of, must be the first time my brain has seen that font :D

I'm sure it was done on purpose..a new anti plagiarism front that was researched by entomologist and paid for by ophthalmologists. You read the insect like writing and then go directly to the eye doctor. yep..those are strong suspicions of mine.

Thanks for the post!
It may not get immediate acknowledgement from the antis, but the more they get hit in the head with the reality of the situation the better off I think vaping will be in the long run.

Did they (ANTZ) really think we would all just sit back and let them spew their propaganda and be silent? They started all this and got the government involved. Wrong move imho.

Great news for our side.

One thing I don't quite get. I've always assumed that studies carried out by big tobacco would be biased in favour of their business needs. Also assumed that BT were eager to sink vaping. Now they put out the results of a study that looks really good for vaping.

Maybe they are hoping to argue that their ecigs are good but other ecigs are bad, although that would be a hard case to make credibly.

Or maybe they figure vaping isn't going to go away, and want to hedge their bets by grabbing the vaping market. It would be nice to have them on our side.

It's hard not to be cynical about this stuff. Maybe they just carried out and published a legitimate scientific study because it was the right thing to do.

In my case at least, BT is actually responsible for my quitting smoking. I smoked Camels for many years, and for many years I got coupons every month from their parent company, RJR Tobacco. One time, instead of the normal "$2 off a pack" or "buy one, get one free" coupons, I got one from "RJR Vapor Company" for a free VUSE rechargeable and a couple extra cartridges. It was terrible, it sits now on my desk unused, but I did use it for a while at first, and at least it was enough to convince me I could give up the cigs, if only I had something that worked (and tasted!) a little better. So I put down the smokes, picked up an eGo-twist style starter kit from a local B&M shop, and never looked back. Sure, I had a few smokes now and then in the meantime, but the last time I took even a couple puffs off a cigarette was more than two weeks ago now, and the last time I had one to myself was even longer ago, and even that one I shared half of with someone else!

If vaping had come along and not been very different from cigarette smoking, but was adopted anyway just for the "cool tech" feature, we might have been silent as we were with all the smoking bans. But considering that most of us switched to vaping for our HEALTH, they can hardly expect us to just sit here and say nothing to all their BS.

That's a fun story. Congratulations.

BT aren't stupid. I'm sure they have done studies and they know what works and what doesn't. If they wanted to they could come up with something Vuse-like that got the job done. They just have to figure out the profit angle. A lot of people won't want to mess around with buying the latest tank and winding coils and refilling and so forth. If BT produced an ecig that tasted good and worked good they could make a lot of money. Not as much as from cigarettes but still a profitable business.

Yes, I'm sure they did.
After all, that's exactly what we did when they started promoting the second-hand smoke thing.

And the fact that vapers are no longer lying down and "taking it" is what caught them off guard.
They are scrambling now, to save their careers and their money train.
