Good Morning Major!

Our recent discussion of fights and fighting made me wonder what some boxers had to say about it. It's surprising how many themes have been discussed across this forum that relate to these quotations from famous Boxers. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did discovering them and find in them, as I did, a few energy points for when the fray is at its height!

"The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponent, while the coward runs. It's the same thing, fear, but it's what you do with it that matters."
—Cus D'Amato

"Getting hit motivates me. It makes me punish the guy more. A fighter takes a punch, hits back with three punches."
—Roberto Duran

"Rhythm is everything in boxing. Every move you make starts with your heart, and that's in rhythm or you're in trouble."
—Sugar Ray Robinson

"To see a man beaten not by a better opponent but by himself is a tragedy."
—Cus D'Amato

This last one seemed to effect me with the all the power of a right handed haymaker for some reason:

“Sure the fight was fixed. I fixed it with a right hand.”
-George Foreman

It's been raining hard and wrapped up in blankets shivering is no way to spend a night. The phone wakes me from my slumber and it is a friend calling from another island to see how the world is with me.

"It's cold." I tell her
"I wish I could send some warm from my house down the phone line, we have plenty of wood and we are very warm" she said.

Ah, the joy of friends and the warmth of love.

Wishing you warm on this morning Major- may the rain let the sun in!

:)

Good Morning All!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I know I did! :) Here's to having a great week for you all!

And I know that song Ripple, I can hear the guy singing it in my head now, just can't recall his name! And I love those fighter quotes Yard! I agree the last one by Foreman is especially powerful. I was never a boxer but when I first started as a cop before I got recruited to DEA, I was fo a brief time a local cop in a resort town.

In those days (mid 70's) in a spring break resort town, it wasn't a question of "if" you would have to fight every shift but how many times. You learned real quickly to bounce back even from a sucker punch and make sure your "response" brought a cessation of hostilities. I guess that was the first time I found out I was a fighter deep down - I just never had needed to use it!

Have a great one all! :)

Good Morning Major!

We've had quite a meal on the fighting philosophy and quotations...anyone for a feast? :)

I just couldn't resist this one:

"We are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of Nature has placed in our power... the battle, sir, is not to the strong alone it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave."

-Patrick Henry

Have a wondrous day that makes an epiphany at each corner you turn; an epiphany to the beauty of life.
