Good Morning/Day/Evening to you all! :) I hope you all had a restful and/or enjoyable weekend. I certainly did!

My wife has told me for our whole lives that I am not spontaneous enough. I do tend to like things all organized and the like but I caught her a bit off guard Sunday evening around 11:00PM local time. We had just finished watching the news and I asked her what she thought about a picnic.

She said sure, sounds great so I said, "Let's go!" When she began to tell me what she needed to do today and how it would be difficult I said, no, I mean right now. She allowed that I must have a fever but I convinced her that we needed to go by Taco Bell, grab a dozen or so of those Dorito shelled tacos and hit the beach.

There has always been something about tropical weather that has drawn me to the beach. My wife is not even a social drinker but will have an occasional glass of white zinfandel so even though I can't drink anything alcoholic I thought carrying a bottle might make her a bit more at ease.

We landed on the beach at around midnight with the tacos, zinfandel, a couple of smartphones and a blanket. The cool sea winds pushed the heavy, salty air around and despite a storm (Isaac) in the Gulf, it was beautiful. After an uncharacteristic 3rd glass of zinfandel, she was off chasing down small white fiddler crabs around the waters edge I remarked to her I hadn't seen her so bouncy since her dancing days.\

We were the only ones visible on the beach in either direction so courtesy of "our" music via one of my Pandora channels, she danced. Not too long but enough for me to see again the girl within that I have been blessed to share my life with. Of course at our ages, it doesn't take long to get winded and she did but not before curling up next to me.

In no time she was out like a light and I took great care to not awaken her as she slept and I ate a bag of tacos! I stayed there until morning light but due to the tropical weather system, no sunrise, just light. I had to thank God right then and there for what I have been blessed with simply being alive.

Sure there was the fight to get back to the car and get back home but it was a great night and a great memory. I can't say I'll ever be spontaneous by nature but at least for this occasion, spontaneity was the author of a great time with the girl I love. It sounds so simple yet fulfilling that I had to share. :)

Hope everyone has a great week and thank you again for your support!

Good Morning Major!

What a wonderful picnic. Gorgeous memories. Absolutely beautiful!

"... I told the Patriarch that, being a Southerner, I did not know the mountain tracks, and that it was impossible for me to get to the mouth of the river (to catch a boat). "You need not worry," said he. "I will go with you."

He then accompanied me to Jiu Jiang, and there ordered me into a boat. As he did the rowing himself, I asked him to sit down and let me handle the oar. "It is only right for me to carry you across," he said (an allusion to the sea of birth and death which one has to go across before the shore of Nirvana can be reached). To this I replied, "While I am under illusion, it is for you to get me across; but after enlightenment, I should cross it by myself. (Although the term 'to go across' is the same, it is used differently in each case). As I happen to be born on the frontier, even my speaking is incorrect in pronunciation, (but in spite of this) I have had the honor to inherit the Dharma from you. Since I am now enlightened, it is only right for me to cross the sea of birth and death myself by realizing my own Essence of Mind.

"Quite so, quite so," he agreed. ... .

After saying good-bye, I left him and walked towards the South. In about two months' time, I reached the Ta Yu Mountain. There I noticed that several hundred men were in pursuit of me with the intention of robbing me of my robe and begging bowl.

Among them there was a monk named Hui Ming, whose lay surname was Chen. He was a general of the fourth rank in lay life. His manner was rough and his temper hot. Of all the pursuers, he was the most vigilant in search of me. When he was about to overtake me, I threw the robe and begging bowl on a rock, saying, "This robe is nothing but a symbol. What is the use of taking it away by force?" (I then hid myself). When he got to the rock, he tried to pick them up, but found he could not. Then he shouted out, "Lay Brother, Lay Brother, (for the Patriarch had not yet formally joined the Order) I come for the Dharma, not for the robe."

Whereupon I came out from my hiding place and squatted on the rock. He made obeisance and said, "Lay Brother, preach to me, please."

"Since the object of your coming is the Dharma," said I, "refrain from thinking of anything and keep your mind blank. I will then teach you." When he had done this for a considerable time, I said, "When you are thinking of neither good nor evil, what is at that particular moment, Venerable Sir, your original face?" As soon as he heard this he at once became enlightened." - The Autobiography of Hui Neng

Good Morning/Day/Evening to you all! :) I know so many of you have given your support out of the goodness of your heart and I can't ever say thank you enough.

I do need to ask though for any of you so willing to say a small prayer for my wife. We thought she was having a heart attack but instead they have found a "correctable defect" in the heart muscle itself. I am a fairly intelligent person but I don't really understand all they have said except that she must have surgery immediately, as in this Friday morning US time.

It is a top 50 US hospital that specializes in heart surgery so I feel good about that but anytime someone is working on your heart or your brain, it is an uneasy feeling. Due to the strict regulations about electronics, I wont have even my smartphone with me but I will be with her until I know she is okay.

So nothing is wrong with me but I wont be able to report in for a few days but as soon as I know she is okay, I will be able to breathe a little. I will then make sure to let you all know everything is okay. I thank you all in advance and I am sure she will be fine but she is my heart so I have to be there to see for myself.

Hope all have a great week! Will report back as soon as I know something. :)

Amazing how much life stuff we can encounter. I am sending your amazing lady all the healing energy I have my friend. The good news is it sounds like they found the defect before it became a major problem. I am sure your presence is the best medicine she can have. Time and distance mean nothing its all relative so she already is connected to my energy, after all its the least I can do for a friend. :)

By the way I had a little left over for you. :)

Good Morning Major!

Sorry I missed a couple of days; worked about 53 hours in the last 4 days, have 2 off and work four more in a row (another 52-53 hours) starting Saturday. I'm not toast yet by my edges are definitely brown and crunchy!:)

I was instinctively concerned when I read your post about your wife; then my intellect temeperd my gut reaction and I had a realization: thank the almighty that her problem was discovered early, quickly, and that you are pursuing the steps to correct the problem!

I also had a warm fuzzy feeling from your picnic post and again, it's ironic, I was slammed by the overbearing feeling of just how amazing the timing of this event was in the timeline of your current events! Again, thank the almighty for that picnic! It was, obviously, extremely special but it's value, specialness, and meaning are only enhanced by recent events as far as I'm concerned.

I pray, almost every day, a generic prayer for the sick and dying. Know that I'l be putting in some extra petitions for you and your wife on Friday. Again thank God that this condition was discovered, diagnosed, and addressed quickly.
