Making a metal cart. Does anyone know the thickness of the metal in a 510 battery?

I'm thinking about making a metal cart for a 510 and I was thinking that it might be possible to dismantle a 510 battery (since the outside diameter would be perfect), cut it to the length of a cart, and with a homemade lathe (power drill and dremel tool) grind enough off one of the ends to fit inside of a 510 atty. Do I have enough metal to work with to grind it down to fit the inside diameter of the atty?

I'll probably also have to figure out how to put on some sort of end cap and drill a small hole in it. I dont want any plastic in the cart (besides the wick holder near the mouth piece. Any suggestions?

Cool vid, but it doesn't really help with the 510 cart since it doesn't have a removable inner cart like the M40x does.

I'd love an all metal cart for the 510 that has the inner cart built into it just like the plastic ones... that'd be awesome!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean The metal is just a cover to the plastic cartridge, you just shave down the cartridge and then slide it into the metal cover. Maybe my thread where I made this with a hollowed out cartridge will clarify things for you -

I'm not entirely sure what the OP is looking for. The one you made (and in the video) is basically for looks more than anything else. While it looks good, it still has plastic. I was thinking it'd be cool if there was one without any at all... like the SuperT tip, but with an actual inner cart built-in.

Yeah the OP wanted an all metal cart, I think that would be hard to make unless you're a good metal worker. Hopefully someday companies will start making a variety of different plastic and metal cartridges and mouthpieces.

Yeah I saw that video and that's mostly for looks. I really want something that is all metal since I don't think plastic has any business being that close to a heating element especially when the point of vaping is supposed to be a healthy alternative.

If the thickness of the metal inside the batt (not the outside diameter of the battery) is the same thickness as the atty then I don't think it can be fabricated. I have a friend trying to see what he can do with a lathe and some blocks of steel. I'll keep you all posted.

Well the inside of my 510 .340"...so cutting a step on the cart to go inside the atty needs a couple thousandths clearance, roughly .338". He said he had access to a lathe so he could cut it from a solid billet of brass or aluminum for that matter, instead of trying to find a tube to fit. Why make a cart then sleeve it to both the cart and the atty...make it one piece. Maybe I didn't read what the op was trying to do correctly.

Nicotime thanks a lot that's really good info to work with. My objective is to replace a plastic cart with something made from either stainless steel or brass. The looks are not important because I want to do this because I don't think it's entirely safe to vape with plastic carts. I know Super T makes one, but it's only suitable for dripping and I want to retain the polyfill (actually blue sponge) material.

I was planning on dismantling and cutting an old battery since the OD would be proper but I didn't know the wall thickness. I was planning on shaving enough off the end of the battery to fit the ID of the atty. I would then need to figure out a way of holding the polyfill, but one thing at a time.
