I just started myself, but here's my two cents. Find a local place if you can, and get started. See what they recommend in your budget, and ditch the regular cigarettes. There is so much to learn, and that will take some time.

I'm on day 3 of no cigarettes after 25 years of over a PAD of M Reds. This has been a great experience so far, and I'm absolutely confident I won't light up ever again. Dive in, and go for it! :)

this.

I'm on week three -- i tried an analog a couple of days ago (for kicks) and my lungs could not handle! it felt like my chest was caving in!

I am also new to vaping and just started about 22 days ago. I have been a Marlboro smoker for most of my life...34 years. I have been smoking Seneca reds for a couple of years now because of the price. 22 days ago vaping started for me with a trip to the store to buy a pack of Marlboros. I said to the clerk "hey, what's up with those electronic cigarettes?" The clerk told me to purchase a disposable and see how I liked it before I spent extra money on the kit.. I got the Blu. The next day I went and got a Logic. That was it, and I have been hooked ever since. (Still have to go and thank that clerk)

If I were you, I would try a couple of brands that are over the counter and really get used to it. Don't be afraid to hang out and vape for minutes on end when you feel you want a generic...it's what you need to do. And DO make sure you have an extra e-cig to keep you going in the beginning so you don't run out.

As far as budget goes, this is a lot less expensive than going out and buying a carton, so make sure you aren't without in the beginning . Bust the lock off the wallet and make sure you have what you need. You will be thankful that you did. I am...

Great forum btw, I have learned a lot over the last few weeks. :)

Thats the way I went. Its a small price to pay to learn if I could do this on a full time basis. Then I did the trying the sample bottles bit to find the juice or me. And the biggest help I got was from the people I work with. They kept and still keep showing me their new juices. That really helps me figure out whats for me and whats not.

Sorry Steve I went off track, remember switching from cigs to vaping is not an instant thing, you have to make an effort. Especially first thing in the morning, but after 5 minutes of vaping the worst cigarette craving of the day is gone. OH, vapor is different from smoke, its takes a little bit to get used to it, but well worth it.

My fiance bought me my first PV, and then we went to a Soccer game downtown and I left my smokes at home. I threw my smokes away at the end of the day, and never looked back.

There are some initial costs, getting your "kit" together, and trying different juices. But once you're happy with your hardware, replenishment costs can be pretty low, well below the cost of cigs.

OTOH, if you get bitten by the upgrade and "gee whiz that's nifty, I want one" syndrome, all bets are off!

Hey everyone im Steve, im from Louisiana. Im 34 and i smoke about a pack a day of Marlboro red 72's. I really want to try the Ecig thing but i have no idea were to start, iv looked at a couple of sites but they just seem to look all the same to me. I would love to find something that had heavy vapor and a Marlboro taste. But also i dont want to be spending more on ecigs than i am on cigs right now, but i really wanting to quit smoking so i might have to spend a little more. Anyway can anyone help point me in the right direction please, Thanks:smokie:

One of the better starter kits I've seen is at My Vapor Store (MVS): Spinner/Twist Combo. It's the kind of kit I landed on through trial and error. I would have saved money starting off with a kit like that.

You don't have to get that exact one nor do you have to buy from My Vapor Store if you don't want but that's a good starting point. Far as price, remember that unlike cigarettes, you'll be buying something durable. Batteries like the Spinners and Twists are rated at around 300 charge cycles. Mine get charged once a day at most so they could easily last a year. Unlike a carton of cigs which lasts you, at a pack a day, ten days?

You have to work to spend more on vaping than smoking. I mean, you can but you have to work at it. If you're on a budget, there are a lot of ways to keep costs down. I spent, oh, $43.75 for the month of June. I may or may not order some extra flavorings this month. Dunno yet. Though I am low on banana. :)

Sure, some folks around here spend a lot on their advanced PVs and what not. Turn vaping into a hobby. And if that keeps 'em from smoking, cool. More power to 'em. Me, I can't afford the fancy widgets. :)

But don't go too cheap on your kit. There's some real low end "knock off" crap out there...

What worked like a dream for me only cost me about $45 (including some juice).

I use an eGo v (variable voltage) with a Kanger T3. It is the perfect starter device. The eGo line seems to be the best for starting up. The variable voltage will allow you to up the power (or lower) depending on what you need (more vapor, less vapor) at the time. The T3's are what hold and heats the juice. It is a quality clearomizer.

Like others have said, I totally ditched tobacco flavors. It is perfectly understandable for smokers wanting to exactly mimic the experience. You just have to get yourself excited for a whole new experience and understand it's really the nicotine you need. So, think about some simple flavors you love. For me - I love coffee and fruit. I started there. Got one coffee with bavarian cream and one green apple and was in love.

As for nicotine level - I would err on the higher side for first timers. Your body wants the nicotine. I started with 24mg and quickly dropped to 20mg. That seemed to do it. I've been lowering since.

To sum it up:

1) eGo line is a good starter device
2) get variable voltage for ability to adjust strength
3) try other flavors and believe vaping is a whole different experience (be excited not afraid)
4) don't short yourself on the nicotine level

Edit:

Wanted to add some advice. Don't give up if you still grab a smoke occasionally while you adjust. Just do what you have to and keep your eye on the vapor cloud. Second, your body will still find itself wanting all off those hundreds of other chemicals it got used to ingesting when smoking. It takes a little time to get past that.

Hiya Steve,

The quote above is true. I felt a little out of whack the first day or two after giving up cigarettes but stick with it cause that feeling goes away rapidly.

I am new to vaping too and went with eGo twist batteries and clearomizer type liquid delivery devices.

I too smoked Marlboros and Pall Malls. Pack a day +. I searched for a tobacco like juice and although you will never find one that is exactly like a Marb red, there are some good tobacco substitutes. I personally like a flavor called "RY4". It has that slightly peppery tobacco undertone, mixed with a little bit of caramel sweetness and sometimes a hint of vanilla. I find it to be quite satisfying. Just about every online shop will have a RY4 type juice. Some of the more popular ones are from Vaperite, and Heather's Heavenly Vapes (just to name a few).
I have also found a dark chocolate flavor, and cinnamon roll (if you can believe it) to be satisfying as well.

If you can find a local shop that will let you try flavors, great. If not, don't hesitate to order a couple small bottles of different tobacco flavors until u find one you like. I promise you it's still cheaper than buying packs of cigs everyday.

Good luck! Let us know what you end up with.

Cheers!

You should check some other vendors tobacco flavors. Vendors that have good tobacco flavors get them from Naturally Extracted Tobacco. You probably won't get a Marlboro type flavor, but there are a lot of good tobacco vapes that get a close approximation to better tobaccos (like pipes or cigars).

Also, you really should try a few RY4's. Most vendors have a variant of this. Basically it is a mix of tobacco, caramel, and vanilla. Each vendor has a different spin on it.

Do not buy this kit. Waste of money.

For $11 it at least has OP started down the right path. His last post said he already got it (with some free juice) so I don't think its a waste.

I've never used the eGoT but I know it is basically one of the most basic devices you can get. You didn't spend much for it so don't be afraid to let it be the device that gets you going until you can take a look at some of the other suggestions in this thread.

Oh, and the biggest lesson in vaping is that if it works for you, then it is the right choice.

Steve...you did the right thing. Start with something cheap and simple, see how you get on then choose what to do.

I purchased some "American Red" flavour liquid today and it's not very much like an American red, but it's a nice smokey and nutty savoury liquid, perfectly vapeable.

There are SO many variations on "Tobacco" and hardly any of them are even close, let alone realistic. However, you just need something you like the taste of, and off you go!

Good Luck.

hello Steve, all cards on the table. if you have a habit you want to end you have to put AT LEAST as much effort into quitting as you did maintaining your habit, that being said there are plenty of cig flavored juices, and think of it this way, any money you put out in the beginning will soon be overcome by your savings from cigaretts. so? if you want to quit vaping makes it easy, but its in each individuals mind how committed they are. me? 45 years 1-3 packs a day also reds and american spirit and like magic, vaping helped me put it all away after maybe 20-30 failed attempts, been 38 days now, and it gets better and better........ just sayin lol

Good for you Dude! I hope you have an extra battery so that you have one on charge at all times.

Sorry to hear that the tobacco flavor you tried was shi...less than ideal.

There are some good ones out there. Check the e-liquid section of the forums for some recommendations.

Or go crazy and get something super fruity...either way lol.

Cheers!

I stopped smoking 16 months ago, after a long 50-year, 2+ PAD habit.

I started slow and easy. Limited myself to 10 analogs (real tobacco cigs) a day and vaped the rest. Back then I got a starter kit for under $100 and vaped pre-filled cartomizers. I got into vaping as a means of quitting my smoking habit - an endeavor I remember fondly. I don't think most people want to quit, as much as they need to quit. I'm part of that latter group. Anyway, and surprisingly, that process lasted about three or four days. When I realized that I hadn't gone to the garage for a cigarette in more than three hours, I decided there and then never to smoke another. Like I said, that was 16 months ago.

It's hard to make the psychological decision, so I made the one I thought would be the less painful. At first, it didn't really matter what kind (flavor) of juice was in the cartomizer, so long as it had nicotine in it and delivered a smoking-like satisfaction. It wasn't until quite some time later that I started to re-fill my exhausted cartomizers and look for something similar to the flavor of Marlboro.

I'm convinced that what other posters are telling you about flavor is right. If you want Marlboro-branded ejuice, you'll find it. That's not to say it'll taste like it, but you will find it. I think the better choice is what others are recommending: find a flavor you like and vape that. If you get tired of it after a while, try something else.

Nonetheless, ESmokeClub offers a Marlboro-flavored blend. I use it, but it's been so long that I can't even tell you if the flavor of the real thing is there or not. Instead, I vape it because I'm used to it and I like it. I like the 18mg nicotine content, but they sell above and below that, too. Like most of their varieties, they offer the Marlboro blend in 5, 10, 30 and 50 Ml sizes and at what seems to be reasonable price.

Whatever you decide, I hope you stick with it. I think your body will appreciate it and reward you with a healthier life.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I look at it as compared to the cigs you would have smoked. I dumped my Blu after only a couple of weeks but I actually sat down and added it up and it was more or less a "wash". I ended up spending about the same as I would have smoking (well, then, I was still smoking some but it was way, way, way down). At $11 bucks, the thing only has to substitute for a couple of packs the OP would have otherwise smoked to get into "break even" territory.

Sounds like some good advice all the way around. I quit smoking about 5 1/2 weeks ago and started vaping. First couple days were rough but not terrible. Personally, i love coffee and had to keep my intake down because it made me want a cigarette more. If I'd had bad equipment it would have been far worse. I wouldn't worry too much about the equipment costs. I went from 1 to 1.5 PAD to about 4 ml of ejuice. A pack costs me about $5.50, the ejuice about $2.00. Over 30 days, that's a savings of $105.00, even ignoring the days I smoked more cigarettes. I can buy a lot of gear for $1300 which is conservatively what I'm saving. And, it's way better for you.

Steve, last week I bought a Square Premium e-Cig Red starter pack. (Green is menthol). The kit was only $19 online, I went to find a smoke shop, and it was $25 (no shipping). They have little boxes you can see on Google that have 5 cartridges for $15. A 5 pack is equal to a carton! That's $40 for a starter kit that includes 2 red (Marlboro) cartridges and the long part is the battery. It comes with a USB charger, so you only have to plug it into your computer and wait for it go from red to green. I called my shop yesterday and found out they have a car cigarette chargers and wall chargers. Only $5 for each of them. Try itl I LOVE it. It's the most complete kit and you can choose your own levels, if you want to move down. If you start out with Square at a local smoke shop, that's all of $50...$25 Kit, $15 for a 5 pack = carton, $10 for other plug ins. You can't buy a carton for that!
I am not addicted to nicotine, I just started 7/3 and I've moved down to blanks since 7/6. Just go down as fast as you want or can. You will save money starting now! :toast:

A cartridge (standard holds 1ml of nicotine liquid) does not equal a pack of cigs, its more like 6 cigs per cartridge for a pack a day smoker.
