"Marlboro maker Philip Morris only has a tiny sliver of China's gargantuan cigarette market, but it is determined to do business in the country, even if that means moving beyond traditional cigarettes, the Wall Street Journal reports. China's state-owned tobacco firm has a virtual monopoly on cigarettes sales, so Philip Morris is working on producing flu vaccines made from a type of tobacco plant as part of a move to diversify. The company is also spending huge amounts of money on efforts to develop less harmful cigarettes, a move execs say could be a "game changer" in China. The "healthier" products being developed include a cigarette that generates smoke at lower temperatures, releasing fewer toxins but resembling the smoking experience more than electronic cigarettes do. "To come up with new technology is really the only avenue to get into a place like China," the tobacco giant's chairman told investors earlier this year."

I don't understand the term "less harmful" like for an example " A poison is a poison,no matter if it is LESS harmful, it still kills you"

Not actually, the danger is in the dose or every nicotine user would be dead now and the ANTZ would need to devote their "do-good" efforts to the obesity pandemic.

The fundamental tenet of toxicology is "the dose makes the poison". For example, drinking two gallons of water is deadly, but nobody claims that drinking a glass of water is toxic.

Similarly, while consuming an ounce (or even a gram) of nicotine may be deadly, consuming less than 25 milligrams of nicotine isn't hazardous (which is why smokers, smokeless tobacco and e-cigarette users don't drop dead after consuming a cigarette, a portion of snuff or several drops of e-liquid).

That's why abstinence only anti tobacco extremists (just like environmental extremists) have gone to great lengths to confuse the public to believe that even trace levels of any constituent in tobacco products and e-cigs is toxic (in order to scare the public and politicians so they ban, tax and demonize the products).

It might help to know that the nicotine is NOT what causes smoking-related diseases. It's the SMOKE! So when big brother talks about tobacco-related diseases, that's a case of misdirection. See: FAQ: Nicotine (tobaccoharmreduction.org)

Any product that does not deliver tar, particulates, poisonous gasses, and thousands of chemicals of combustion along with the nicotine is lower in risk than continuing to smoke.

Theoretically, smoke that contains fewer dangerous chemicals would be lower in risk, but it doesn't work in practice. That's why Star Scientific stopped trying to make a "safer cigarette" and decided to focus on smoke-free tobacco products.

The words "tobacco-related diseases" really makes me want to turn into the Incredible Hulk and destroy things.
It is a perversion of science, a perversion of truth, and a perversion of reality.

In the most appropriate terminology, it is simply one big fat lie.

And it is a lie that kills people.
Lots and lots of people.

so is this what they call Flu Cured tobacco?

Yes, the concept is similar to getting allergy shots, where they expose you to small amounts of the substance that is bothering you.

They hire a group of people that have the flu, and have them sneeze all over the uncured tobacco.

Presto! The tobacco is cured.
