I have a natural tenancy to be extremely curious and love to take things apart to see how they work and fix them when necessary. I do quite a bit of robotics work in my spare time so I'm a natural tinker and just love all things tech related.

With all the hoopla about these cartomizers and what is and isn't happening inside of them I thought it would be beneficial for everyone to see exactly whats inside there and in the order its assembled. I will provide the best documentation I can and will leave 1 or 2 blanks to be filled in by Leaford when he can.

Alright onto the cartomizer itself. I will write within the images to keep things simple and easy to understand.

I hope this helps anyone who might have been confused about anything regarding whats inside there.

My 2 blanks for Leaford would be what exactly is the adhesive being used to hold down the inner casing to that o-ring, and what is the inner casing made of?

Not sure what part you guys are referring too. Mine was taken apart in the order that parts are in there. If your referring to the white stuff in that thread that's the adhesive used to hold the inner casing down. The carto I used in this thread didn't have as much as the ones in that thread.

The "plastic seating ring"

The "plastic seating ring"

I checked again and I see no plastic seating ring. If your talking about the white compound in images 2 and 3 of the second row of images in your link then we are talking about the same thing. That is some sort of adhesive that holds the inner casing to the o-ring. It seems some cartomizers have more then others.

Yes, the bottom part of the inner casing.
As you know, that's the part under discussion as possibly being "partially vaporised" under some circumstances, so I believe it's an important piece...

From what I can tell by further looking at the cartomizer today that's actually not a seating ring like we originally thought. Now I can't say if anything was changed in the production line, but based on what I see in the ones I took apart today, that is some kind of adhesive compound. It looks like its placed on each side of the inner casing which is why you don't see a complete circle. The amount varies from carto to carto. The above pictures have more then mine. The ones that physically have chunks missing like the second cartomizer in the above picture are still stuck to the o-ring. If you don't remove it as carefully as possible this happens. In my pictures you can see it as well after I ripped the inner core off, which is why my o-ring also has white chunks stuck to it.

What exactly that compound is I have no idea and its one of the things I was looking for Leaford to shed some light on.

Leaford has been surprisingly absent for the last few days. He normally posts here daily. I don't know if he is too busy with production now that things are cranking back up or if he is waiting to respond when he has his ducks in a row and can give a complete answer.

Nice post and information. You, my friend, are one organized mother fudger.

Rift, thank you so much for all the work you put into this. I have learned a lot from your pictures and detailed explanations.

I also wanted to tell you how much I have appreciated your calm and kind patience the last few days. I think you really have the patience of a saint. And I admire how you have tried to be helpful and a peacemaker. You seem to be a truth seeker. Thank you for all your efforts.

Really nice job. As an amateur photographer with quite a few dollars tied up in photography gear, you've done just fine.

I don't like the burnt polyfill, but the o-ring looks intact, although I'm not sure why we need to have silicone so close to what is essentially a hot wire.

Why can't these things just work?! I'm so close to being done with analogs completely, and now I'm afraid of what new items I'm putting into my lungs.
