When/where did the notion start that if you use a mechanical you have to use an rba on it? I remember, way back in the day, when we were stuck with the voltage we were stuck with! Back before stacking 123A's, or RCR 123A's to get 5 or 7.2V.
I remember the BB, the Chuck, the SB and so on, and somehow we survived! No rba's, just make do with what we had!
So why now are we deciding that the only way to use a mechanical now is to use an RBA? I still use my BB, Legacy and Tin mod with carto tanks, dripping atty's and RBA's, and enjoy them all!
Can we PLEASE dispel this myth?

Well, to be honest, I've not had good luck with any of the clearomizers, protanks, vivi's, etc.... On anything that I've tried!

I rebuild my heads and the protank for me works great on VV devices. Stopped using my carto tanks. But ill say not the best choice for mechs, until I figure out a set up that works right. Have a few week left before my mech comes :(

Sorry, dispel the myth of what?
That Any low dropping volt mod with good like Genesis or kayfun style will out perform anything as of today?
Sound's like trolling, my old friend:)

Read through the new members section some time, people ask about a mechanical and are told they are only good with an RBA on them! I see it time and time again, "Get a VV or VW mod if you want to use anything but an RBA!"
It's hogwash, not trolling, you can use a wide variety of things on them, I just don't understand why so many think this?

the mechs I have used work great with cartos, really good. sucks with the protank though, I built a 1.3 ohm coil for it and still not amazing, but not bad. think it would work better if I used 30 ga kanthal instead of 32 so I can get a few more wraps in there.

I have been vaping a 28g micro-coil with 11 or 12 wraps on my Protank IIs and they come in at 1.3-1.5Ω and they work wonderfully on my Natural. They thing I love most about it is that I can take it off my Natural, and throw it on my K100 or SVD, or even my Vision Spinner if I like. I've been wrapping all my BCCs with a micro-coil and loving it!

I believe what they are saying is that to get the most out of your mech or something that you can't get from a vv mod, you need an RBA. This is in fact true as vv's can't fire SLR atties. Therefore mech mods are only better than your vv mod with an rba with a low ohm coil, this does not mean you need to do any of the above. Mech mods without an rba is a lot like buying an HDTV and watching everything in upscaled standard definition though.

The two don't go hand in hand but if you care enough to buy a decent mechanical mod then there's a good chance that an RBA will suit you more, both in terms of it's capabilities, versatility, expandability.

Having said that I often recommend clearomisers to most people even with mech mods mainly because they won't care enough to get the most out of an RBA.

i personally use high-end mechs with high-end rba's, and i agree with soulseek that i probably wouldn't use high-end mechs if i couldn't have the versatility of an rba. if you're going to go this route, i think it just makes sense.

that being said, i also agree that this isn't and shouldn't be considered the only valid use for a mech. i recommend them all the time to people who want/need something that will always just work. i have some cheaper mechs too, and i've beaten the crap out of them, but they keep firing away like they were brand new.

i do think it's better for beginners to start with a vv nowadays, though. i know a lot of people who started years ago had no choice, but with so many options available today, starting with a mech seems like driving without a seatbelt and airbags - 99% of the time, you'll probably be fine, but there have been so many protections and safety features introduced in vv devices that it's almost dumb not to use them (at least until you have a general understanding of battery safety and the risks involved).

I disagree, with proper knowledge, and purchases, one can easily work a mechanical with a carto tank, a Cisco or HH 357 dripper, these are "off the shelf" items that when purchased around the 1.7ohm area, can work wonderfully on a mech! I'm not saying they are better or worse, but they can be used, and do work well in their own right with the right atty on them.

And you are starting to see some of my point. No, I don't discourage VV or VW for a new user, but in the link provided, the OP has that and is looking at something else to use.
Yes, I do have some RBA's and RDA's that I use, but I don't feel dissatisfied with a carto tank on one either! I just can't understand the mentality of "Well mech's are only good with RBA's and everything else is going to suck on it!" As I've said, look back even a few years ago, this is what we had, and it worked! There are even more, and better options out there now to improve the experience!
I guess after years of filling carto's with blue foam or tea bags, and what ever other things we had to do back in the day, like washing carto's then spending an evening filling them two days later, I've come to appreciate how simple it is now! I guess many haven't had to do that, so they don't appreciate it as much! Same as I appreciate having the options we do now, VV, VW and a nice selection of mech's. They all have their place, they can all do the same things, just in different ways. I don't think just because it's old and simple, it can't be used in newer ways.

I'm loving my protank2 on a mech. I currently favor 12 wraps of 28ga Kanthal A-1 at 1.5Ω as a micro coil with a cotton wick.

My current favorite setup

Modified S1000 mech + ProTank II
Modified S1000 + ProTank II.jpg
hits hard with fantastic flavor and huge plumes

Sure you can use LR cartos etc and it is fine for most but I simply mean that sub ohm vaping is the major difference in a mech than a vv device. No, its not necessary and its fine and some people will love it just fine, it can do so much more if you pair an RBA. Without doing this your shedding security of protection in a vv device and for what advantage? The only I can think of is vv devices tend to be slightly larger? This being said beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to each his/her own but I'll keep my mechs with RBAs as I couldn't do without them personally or would simply just get a vv. Your gaining a function of sub ohm ability with a mech at the cost of safety, that's its advantage, whether you choose to use it is up to you. Or maybe you just don't want safety and just want... I dunno I'd say reliability but seeing how much everyone loves the provari I can't even say that. Maybe looks I guess

I have had no luck with micros on my protanks, cant get them to stop spitting at me. will have to try it again when I have 28 and 30ga kanthal on hand

I don't think anyone thinks that you *can't* use a LR carto on mech. It's just that many people, myself included, think that VV/VW is the superior device for that application. Why deal with dropping voltage if you don't have to?

I use 1.5 ohm Cisco Spec atties on my mechs from time to time and I would definitely prefer to use a 2ohm device on an ego twist. I get the same vape quality for a longer time.

650mah ego twist with 2ohm topper gives 5-6 hours of vaping at my usual pace.
18650 (2000mah AW) in a mech with a 1.5 ohm topper gives me 2-3 hours vape time.
18650 in a mech with a 2ohm topper is too weak for my taste - I would need to change the batteries every 30 minutes.

I think with how cheap vv/vw has become, vaping something a vv/vw will fire on a mech seems almost silly. Why not have a more consistent vape? If your vv device can fire that carto tank wouldn't it be better to have it hit just as well as when you first slapped the battery in?

When/where did the notion start that if you use a mechanical you have to use an RBA on it? I remember, way back in the day, when we were stuck with the voltage we were stuck with! Back before stacking 123A's, or RCR 123A's to get 5 or 7.2V.

So why now are we deciding that the only way to use a mechanical now is to use an RBA? I still use my BB, Legacy and Tin mod with carto tanks, dripping atty's and RBA's, and enjoy them all!
Can we PLEASE dispel this myth?
