Out of interest, when do you guys refill the merlin….is it ok to let the level get to just above the jfc intake before you refill?
Yes

Also, whats the general interval before you change out the wick and coil?

In my case, for new juice, quality of flavor is the main factor determine when to rewick. But after a while, I roughly know it is about 1.5 to 2 tank of juice consumed that I should rewick. Basically, I rewick every evening after dinner and by this time I normally have used up 1 to 2 tank of my favorite juice.

For coil, it is the look of it. When I notice the coil color turns too dark compare to how it looks after its very first dry burn (test for hot spot), I normally will replace it with a new coil. (Btw, nowadays, I use only SS316L coil.) Generally specking, I never use a coil for more than 2 weeks.

I'm running a .6ohm 26/32 clapton in my merlin and its vapin great, rewicked many times and still not a single leak. I just don't like the seeping onto my 510 but I haven't come across a fix so I have to deal with it. Its the seeping of the oring on the top of the glass part when you rescrew the top cap onto after refilling that annoys me and makes the glass juicy thus slimy fingers if you don't wipe the oring and threads. Generally speaking the merlin is a good atty but wont replace my subtanks.

I always make sure a roll of toilet paper is within my reach when refilling my Merlin. I wrap the top cap with the paper when closing it...

The coil i usually just change when I'm bored with it. I like to rewick every few days to a week for lighter juices.

Glad you're enjoying it @Cumulo Vapus

I'm kinda at this place. I have three RTAs in rotation (Merlin and two Mages) so their use somewhat varies. After 5 days or so I know whatever is in there is going to start gunking. But I have no problems filling tanks four or five times if I used them alot within that time. I keep one tank for the fruity juices, one for the desserts and one for e juice experimentation. I don't like sweet juices so that helps. Cinnamon only arrives in samples and they get thrown out. My coils go well over a month. I dry burn them and keep an eye on the ohms.

I really like the claptons especially at lower wattage, they produce a nice vape. The subtank RBA is a bit tight for a clapton and a screw hassle when installing but works but not as good as in the merlin. My DIY tobac juices aren't sweet so going weeks between rewicking and months on a coil is a perk. I'm a committed tobacco vaper and the only other flavors I vape is cola, grape and the occasional mint. From 2 years of buying commercial juice I found I dislike way more flavors than I like and still never found a vendor tobacco vape I would reorder again. After DIY for a year and half my Hangsen tobacs and tobacco absolutes is the only variety I need. :)

I get a hint of that but nothing has gone into the 510 opening, just on the sides….where do you reckon its coming from….Ive checked my airflow holes and they are closed fully…the base of the atty where the 510 screw is is also dry….puzzling.

I thought at first since they torqued the atty together at the factory that they messed the orings but thats not the case. The juice IMO is getting past the bottom oring and seeping behind the airflow controller then onto the 510. I see no visible juice on the airflow or inside nor on the positive pin, just ontop the 510 like with kayfun seeping through the fill port. These merlin orings are thin and sketchy to start with. Once I cook the coil I'll take it apart again, re-evaluate the orings and try again. If I close the juice flow and airflow then it doesn't seep as much but still seeps so maybe the vacuum is pushing juice past the rings...I dunno until I take it to bits and try again.
I have 2 merlins and they both seep the same, one not as bad as the other to add another piece to the puzzling.

May I know how you wick your Merlin?

Let's see that grape recipe! I wanted to make a sweet grape/candy.
Its really nothing special. I mix Cap grape, HS grape and TFA grape all at 5% each as a 15% standalone blend. I build 5% standalone mix of HS desert ship or HS highway. Blend them together at 60% Grape and 40% HS, let sit a week or two. I blend my cola the same way but with a mix of HS red and blue cola. The Hangsen tobacs make the grape pop compared to grape standalones.

May I know how you wick your Merlin?
I wick the Merlin the same way I wick my kayfuns and subtanks. Rayon is wicking of choice, I wet the wick then make it into a fan by combing it over a utility knife blade, cut the side points off so they don't get into the orings or in the way. Make a waterfall looking putting the wick onto the bottom of the deck. Put on the chimney then I compact the wick together some with tweezers and with a dental pick I push the wick against the chimney wall from inside making sure its totally covering the holes.
I have never cut and tucked dry wicking into the atty. you have no control on where its going but wetting the wick and straightening all the fibers first makes it much easier and precise to block the holes with wicking so it doesn't leak. I can say that my subtank builds wicked this way have never leaked.

If you are using cotton use the instructions packed with the tank. Use plenty of cotton to fill the coil. Then make your final cut of the tails AFTER you prime the wick. Cut it half way down the well so that you see some white through the juice holes but you also see clear space below it. If you make the final cut before you prime you will invariably get the tails to lengthen down to the bottom and damming the juice flow. That's just my opinion. YMMV. Batteries not included.[emoji3]
