Its really nothing special. I mix Cap grape, HS grape and TFA grape all at 5% each as a 15% standalone blend. I build 5% standalone mix of HS desert ship or HS highway. Blend them together at 60% Grape and 40% HS, let sit a week or two. I blend my cola the same way but with a mix of HS red and blue cola. The Hangsen tobacs make the grape pop compared to grape standalones.

I wick the Merlin the same way I wick my kayfuns and subtanks. Rayon is wicking of choice, I wet the wick then make it into a fan by combing it over a utility knife blade, cut the side points off so they don't get into the orings or in the way. Make a waterfall looking putting the wick onto the bottom of the deck. Put on the chimney then I compact the wick together some with tweezers and with a dental pick I push the wick against the chimney wall from inside making sure its totally covering the holes.
I have never cut and tucked dry wicking into the atty. you have no control on where its going but wetting the wick and straightening all the fibers first makes it much easier and precise to block the holes with wicking so it doesn't leak. I can say that my subtank builds wicked this way have never leaked.

Nowadays I normally use 4mm SS coil or Notch coil, thus quite an amount of cotton is required. The below is how I prepare my cotton:

Wick 01.jpg

I then roll the thin piece of cotton into a cotton rode.

Fwiw I never wet my wicks (cotton)except to prime them before filling. My Sub tanks have never leaked. I have named them old faithful.

I will wet the wick like hiclass before slipping into the juice well. It's much easier to work with. I use a bit less cotton than in hiclass's pictures though (@hiclass nice photos).

I've had the same rayon in my Serpent Mini for about a month and have run a few flavors through it already. Right now, my Nicoticket Absolute Creme Brulee still tastes like it should. :thumb:

EDIT TO REMAIN ON TOPIC: FTR, I think that the rayon that I have in the Merlin has been there for about the same amount of time, too. :sneaky:

Juice has been tasting off for a little while and I thought it was the different flavor that I loaded into the Merlin that tasted like crap, so I just took a look at the coil and rayon... Oh good God, I should have rewicked this at least a couple of weeks ago, because it was black and gunked up really good. Dry burn, rinse, wipe, repeat. Rewicked with rayon and all is well again. Guess I either went longer than I thought or I need to check these things more often.

re-wicked mine today, with rayon, as well. Also did my serpent mini and kennedy rda I use for tasting new recipes. The merlin had been about 2 weeks since it was last wicked. Taste wasn't bad/burnt yet (thanks TCSS) but I noticed the vapor getting weaker. Have to do my billow v3 plus and griffin before too long as well. Also need to take my occ stock coil out of my STM and give the RBA a test run, that little thing should (not) be fun. I really need to space them all out better so I don't end up having to spend a couple hours doing multiples on the same day going forward.

I keep track of all my tanks in rotation with my iphone/icloud notes so I can be sure when it was last coiled and wicked and with what juice. I am .... like that with 10+ different tanks (6 of them rta/rda) in rotation. 4 of the rta see heavy use on a daily basis and I try and re-wick them every 10 - 14 days so far which I estimate to be 50 - 75 ml of juice thru each wick before I finally re-wick them.

I just wing it and rewick when things aren't quite right. My 'lil Serpent probably needs it, too, as the juice is looking a bit dark as the liquid in the tank gets lower. With Rayon, I can go longer and I tend to forget how long it really is until I suddenly discover there's a funk goin' on. LOL! I must say that the Merlin is the fastest rewicking job ever! Still trying to master my Lemo 2, but I won't put them away permanently yet because I love that side fill too much, hence why I don't rewick often. The Merlin's so easy, I really should do it more frequently. :)

If you like the side fill on the Lemo 2, but you like the vape on the Merlin and Serpent Mini, but do not mind dual coils, look into the Crius. That's my favorite top fill tank!

I would like it more if the tank didnt come apart and leak the last bits of juice all over me every time. I have no luck getting just the base to come apart while keeping the tank together. Ready to put it away and not use it but it's such a great vape and doesn't swallow the juice like all my dual coil tanks that are in rotation.

Crap, I've got a couple of Criuses that I haven't even built yet! I've been primarily using single coil RTAs until my building skills improved. I thought that the Crius might have come with the single coil adapter, but now I'm questioning my sanity and I may be confusing those with the Goblin Mini V2, as I think that is the one that has it (haven't built those either )...

Guess I'll have to break out one of those and give it a whirl. My Merlin wobbles on my VTC Mini too much for my liking, so I'll need to put it on another mod, and I think that I'll use my black Crius on my black VTC... Should look great. Thanks for reminding me that I have those RTAs stashed away, Shawn! Yeah, I've gone a little RTA crazy the past 6 months and don't even remember what I have!

Happens to me as well. What I try to do is make the tank section really tight, and when I screw the Atty section on, not super tight, so it breaks away first. This works when I remember to do it, or I just wait till it's almost empty, or I want to change to different juice.

My Crius Plus arrived today! I left the V Deck in to try out before I play with the Quad deck.

Any Rayon wicking tips or pics Shawn?

Just like any other velocity-decked rta... slight crunch in the coils, and just filling the top segment of the retaining ring.
