I actually found that by myself shortly after getting it. I don't know if I washed it down the drain or it was never there but thank goodness they include an extra one with it.

A little difficult to tell from your pics on the wicking.

Hows your JFC? Tightness wise, moves fairly easy, a little stiff? Have you had it fall over at all, drop it? I'll guarantee it will leak no matter how perfect your wick job if the base is not seated properly during the assembly process.

@hittman, doesn't look like the wick is dense enough.
This is how I wick. I use 30/70vg. Usually 3mm and up coil.

You're using even more cotton than I am. I'm happy with my current performance, but will use a more generous amount. The one time I cut my wick way too short but tried it anyway (only maybe halfway into the juice hole) it leaked like a sieve.

It does look on the side view though that the wicking is only about halfway down the juice hole. It looks like there's a considerable gap at the bottom of the juice hole. Maybe I'm over-reading that picture.

It looks to me like your wick is tucked in neater and cleaner than mine. I wonder if I don't have them down in the holes enough and it's letting liquid flow by? I went ahead and put in a new coil and wick since I had it open. I'll see if this does any better.

When I wicked it the first time when I first got it, I had the wick packed in so tight that it wouldn't wick. I really appreciate you folks helping me out with this. I really want to be able to make this work right.

Mine is fluffed out. I take the bottom 1/3 and put it in the cup. The rest covers the cup opening fully.

I went and looked at your pics. You do a really nice job. I think you folks are right about my wick not being dense enough and not tucked in correctly. It really helps to see how others are doing it. I'll see how the latest wicking goes and if it's not good then I'll try again when I get home from work. I have better tools at home. I had to cut my wick with a pair of side cutters since I don't have scissors at work.

Guys, that cup does not need to be stuffed, I run my Merlin pretty hot, so I like a very free flow to the coil, My current wick is floating slightly above the cups, not a thing in them, I can leave it sit for days with zero leaking, thinner then 80vg may need an adjustment.

The Merlin likes lots of wick, fan it out, nice and fluffy, none of that anemic sagging stuff. Needed a burn and rewick, but here is mine after 120 or so ml through it.

A previous build with the notch coil, great performance but one of the leads fell off after a couple tanks full. look carefully at the left side, you can even see an open portion of the cup. Zero leaks, wicked great.

I'll also add after thoroughly enjoying cleaning up the shoddily assembled deck that shipped with mine, and getting it fit together properly, loose JFC = deck not fully seated into the base, which if that is the case can cause leaking. Mine leaked horribly out the AFC/bottom before fixing it.

Hence my question on how hard/easy does the JFC turn. The Merlin is pretty forgiving on wicking if the rest of it is properly sealed.

While I'm sure they are taking more care during assembly of the later V2 base, it is certainly not outside the realm of possibility to get one not fully seated.

I let my tank sit wrapped in a towel and standing up. I just unwrapped it and the towel is wet and I have liquid coming out the afc holes. I think I'm going to take it completely apart when I get home and start over and make sure I've got it together right. I saw where it was mentioned that if you don't have it sealed correctly then it will leak no matter what.

Yeah, this is the press-fit base issue I mentioned (where were we? :p ).
Mine is correct so take this with a grain of salt.

It was mentioned that the force needed for turning the body/JFC is an indicator.
Mine is firm enough, I can sometimes feel it would unscrew the tank if I didn't hold it.

    Not "tight"... just "firm".

If yours is nowhere as tight, or ridiculously loose, look back about 3-4 pages and there's the tail end of a discussion about popping the base apart, and just as important... popping it back together.

It seems like my flow control turns like it should but after running my finger around where the glass meets the top cap it feels like it's sticking out a little on one side.

They all do that. It's the nature of the design. Nothing to worry about.
