It's an 8 with luck as the meaning. Confirmed by roxy and Leon.
The airflow tube where the airflow restrictor goes is actually adjustable. From the top of the deck you may be able to tighten it down a bit and expose more threads to the 510 pin.
On mine I can gently insert a small flathead screwdriver and "tighten" the tube down until the top is just below the base of the deck. That gives the 510 pin an extra thread or two to grab onto. You could do the same with the base apart by unscrewing the post from the deck a little bit before reassembly. Not too much as the tension on that tube is what holds the positive post on the deck. Too much and your post will wobble.

Thanks for that info. I'll have to give it a shot. I tried to see if any of my other atties had a pin I could use but nothing fit.
So I managed to get my Merlin back together and even found the little metal airflow control stopper pin (AMAZING) I dropped. Unfortunately, the copper screw is S T R I P P E D! Tried to cannibalize other rta's but couldn't find anything that fit. I bought a new one from subtank supply. When it comes in, I'll send them an email to see if there is a way to get a new one.
I certainly wouldn't want to crank it in there, but the slits are large enough to allow thumb/index finger grip if need be. I just grab the mouthpiece and give it a spin. I do like the protection it offers the atty. Always wanted a Railbox, but not willing to pay the price.
With all the bad bases they should be able to help. The 510 pin is a bit on the wimpy side, would have liked to see the threaded portion a little larger, especially when you take into consideration it is press fitted, and the 510 pin is essentially the only actual solid point that holds it together.
If mine ever gave issue I'd probably end up modding it for a beefier solution. drill/tap for a brass or stainless socket head, and custom cut PEEK or Delrin insulator.
Yeah, I think copper was a poor decision. For the difference in resistance between copper and stainless being nominal in this situation I would have went with the strength of stainless.
Late to the party as always..mine will be here tue from sts. Been looking for a post like this as I would like the v2. Will let you all know if sts is still mixing v1 and v2. If they are I will be buying more from eciggity.
From what I have read the v2 juice holes are bigger. STS was mixing a new base with old cover. No big deal people here are saying but I would prefer to have the v2 as more juice flow cant hurt. Anyways will find out soon if they are still sending them like that. Props on them for doing it though if the bases were bad. Would rather have a mixed one than one leaking on me.
I got my second from Eciggity. V2 with oblong holes on both the chimeny and the base (other from STS was v1.5? I guess). Only weird thing, I got the SS but it came with a smoked replacement glass. Emailed with Vince, and he checked the stock of all their SS, and all were shipped from the manufacturer with replacement smoked glass. He was as puzzled as me on that decision. Glad it was v2 (although absolutely fine on the other anyway) but now have one clear and one smoked extra glass.
Leaking you say? I noticed mine would show juice coming from the positive pin. Not a lot but I would have to wipe out my 510 connection after a tank.
My understanding is that both the SS and Black come with both a clear and a smoked glass.
Just different one installed.
Perhaps it has changed through the revisions, or changed again recently.
Anyone tracking this?
