Even thought of buying another just for the drip tip.
Can you do that while there is liquid in the tank? I don't know much about this tank as I just got it. What does that center copper screw connect to? I ask that because I am not sure if it has to be screwed all the way in, or if it's one of those tanks where that can be unscrewed to adjust for different mods.
You can take the screw out. Nothing will leak except the condensation that forms and goes down the air tube. Nothing will come out of your tank.

What is the process for fixing a flooded deck? For example in my kayfun clone, if it started to gurgle I could remove the drip tip, and get some paper towels and put those over the top of the tank and swing it around causing excess liquid to fly up through the top and soak into the paper towels.

In my Merlin tank last night I noticed if it sat for a little while and I went to use it, It would gurgle a little at first. I am the type to over think things sometimes, but my theory is that when the coil starts to get old it gets that black carbon buildup on it. The liquid that is wicked up by the wick starts to sit around that buildup like water in a comb. Eventually I think it gets built up enough to where it starts to drip into the air intake. At least that is my theory lol.

The only time I've experienced any gurgling with the Merlin was insufficient wick in the coil. Made the wick a little tighter in there and problem solved

Idk if that is it. Next time I build a coil, I'm going to try to put mesh around the wick that the coil is wrapped around.

This is the coil I have in there right now.

Looks good... Is the coil directly over the air inlet? In the pic, it looks closer to the poles. Using 2 pieces of silica fits perfectly in those wells. It's like it was made for it.

Yea, it is I noticed after I took those pictures but I think it is just the way my macro lens changes the perspective.
I like these wicks more than cotton and rayon because they can last almost forever. Just a simple dry burn and it's as good as new. I'm using 2 pieces of 3mm. What size are you using? I have some real thick silica that I want to try next. One piece will fit the wells I think.

I agree, I hear a lot of good stuff about cotton, but when I first started vaping over 2 years ago, silica seemed to be more popular so I bought a lot of bulk silica wick. I think it is 3mm. I have a bag with a huge bundle probably enough to last me at least 3 or more years. But it is pretty heat resistant, you can burn at max wattage as long as you are not drawing air, it sometimes is enough to clean the wire.

Now I've seen it all... A Silica build in the Merlin.

You guys are certified loony toons!

I have some 3mm hollow Ekowool that I MUST try in the Merlin! :-x :pervy:
As long as it works that's all I care about. I don't need to chase clouds or anything like that, I just need my nicotine.
P.S. your forum name was well chosen. :)

I've been a silica lover almost all my years of vaping. I like not changing my wick every other day in my 2 tanks.

Wow I haven't used silica in years. Not sure why, as I recall it was very resilient. I might have to give it another try. [emoji3]

I'm a certified cotton luvr. Used rayon for a few weeks in my favorite tanks, and I didn't get a wow moment. Meh. If it ain't broke.....

Might try silica eventually.
I might try cotton after the silica is gone. When I first started building my own coils, I invested in enough supplies to last me several years. I'm thinking that the mesh over the silica will act like a reserve tank of liquid. The silica will be saturated and so will the mesh. Plus the mesh would allow me to dry hit the coil to clean it. At least in theory.

You can, but you can't draw air while doing it, it tastes like crap. But once it's been in there a while, it starts to get carbon buildup and messes with the flavor. I am hoping that by wrapping mesh around the silica it will help to reduce the buildup or allow me to do a long max watt burn to clean the wire. Silica is pretty resistant to heat, but it still has its limits. I would say its more resistant than cotton.

    Somewhere between here and there
I've been using 316 coils in mine and doing spaced coils. This time I did a tight wrap 3mm coil at about .4 and it seems a little better. It might be just me though since I wasn't getting good flavor before since my coil was gunked up.
