I was careful when I used the notch coil. Many people were saying the leads broke easily. If you center the leads in the middle of the grub screws, it helps. If they get moved to the top or bottom of the screw, the threads will pinch the wire against the metal post and cut the leads. If the leads are centered then the flat part of the screws will just smash the wire without cutting them.

Not necessary broke by the screw, sometime it broke at the other end, the lead simply disengage from the coil, this could happen if one try to bend the lead too much.

My way is to tighten both leads in turns. It takes me a few rounds to fully tighten both ends, this also means the coil won't go out of "proper posistion" too much, thus required only a slight adjustment in its position after it has been fasten on the poles.

This is how I bend my leads on the Demon Killer B Style Notch Coils from fasttech for the Merlin.

Other then being careful not to break the leads, or cut them by tightening the screws too tight, both of which I did to my first two installs, the SS Notch is really good. I still have the first one in my Merlin, well it was the 3rd one, but first I didn't break. I'd have to say these are the longest lasting coils I've ever used. Beefy enough to keep dry burning and rewicking many times. Not sure why some don't like them.

I like big coil. But I found chain vaping with the NOTCH coil in Merlin is not so pleasing, particularly under TC mode. I think, Merlin RTA need a slightly bigger airflow to better prevent the heat from building up and holding in its chimney. Under TC mode, my mod quickly shorten up the duration of coil heating after each vape I took (chain vaping) and thus flavor quality goes down.

The coil bend a bit, see it?
The leads also bend themselve when I tighten them gradually, a bit on each side at a time.
...
I wish to have wipers like those on my car windscreen, how nice if those gunk can be wiped by the tank itself, rather than me rewick...

You are the NOTCH MASTER! :)

I have already managed to lose the o-ring that sits just below the top cap….it is pretty loose and just sits there without any tension to hold it in place….i must have dumped it while running it under warm water when I first cleaned the tank. Im now using the spare but its the only one…if i lose this, thats it.

Does anyone know the size of it offhand, so i can get a replacement?

Yup, 8X1. I ordered a pack of 50 of them from oringsandmore for ~$2, as I fully expected to lose them on a regular basis. Over time it seems to sit in the groove atop the fill base better, probably from being compressed with the top cap screwed down.
which material type? Can you link to the specific ones you bought? I too came close to losing one early on and am planning to order at least 2 more of these tanks for spares.

Could you link that....that's a dizzying site and I can't seem to find that size.

I believe it's 8x1mm ID. All the sizes are buried in this thread.

thanks…is 8mm the outer or inner diameter? I laid a measuring tape over my spare and it looked like 10mm outer to me and 9mm inner….but maybe these things are best measured with callipers or whatever…which I don't have access to.

Actually If you are going to try to glue them in. I would use RTV Silicone. It is heat, gas, oil, etc resistant.

I have used RTV Silicone when fixing engines, and carburetors. I would just coat the bottom of the O ring in RTV silicone, and then lightly set it where it is supposed to go. Take whatever screws over the O ring and lightly hand tighten it, Very lightly. Then take it apart and let it dry. This will allow the silicone to act as a cushion and keep the O ring up. So that when you screw the parts down it will allow the rubber to make a tighter seal.

My opinion on the included O rings is that they are very thin. I think all of them would benefit from being a little thicker.

It's the inner diameter.
