I had the same problem this week. Solution.... hair dryer. Purely by accident. I had run water through the tank to clean it. Then soaked it in hot water. Couldn't disassemble. But I needed to clear the water out of the tank so I used a heated hair dryer. The tank gets surprisingly hot. After that, wrap in a kitchen towel and twist. Easy peasy.

Good solution. Only thing is I don't own a hairdryer. :)

I use those thin rubber jar openers, but rubber dish gloves sound like a good alternative. I've also stopped over tightening things on my mods.

I've only cracked one tank, using needle nose pliers in the top fill ports to attempt to unscrew the top. I was gentle, but unequal pressure on the pliers, and boom! Most of these tanks have fairly thin glass to begin with.

@trenten: if you keep it up, we are going to have to take your vise grips away! :)

Lol good luck. I've got like 10 pairs of vise grips. I can also get creative. I used my leather belt once to get a good grip on the glass. (that didnt work earlier.)

Do you have one of those ceramic tweezer tools with the atty wrench on them? I have a pair of them and they have solved all of my stuck tank problems. Must have tool in my opinion.

Here's how I wick.
3mmID 26g ss316l, 9/8wrap.

Cut cotton a little wider than the base.

Fluff the cotton so it's nice and airy.

Then fold(don't pack) the bottom 1/4 into the cup.

While remaining fluffed, cover the rest of the top of the cup and a little on the deck.

I have found that not much below the juice holes works the best. Cover the top and jeep it fluffy. I use anywhere from 50/50-30pg/70vg.
I usually go from 25w-40w, which is how I like to vape. Not high power or low power. The flavor on this tank is great and the above wicking keeps up with no issues.

Sorry for the long post folks.

No but I. Just thought of trying snap ring pliers. They have little post that might be big enough to fit in either the top fill slots, or the bottim juice holes in the chimney.

Please tell me details of your build with 28g SS~~~ Im so lost here and currently not happy with my Merlin
Why are you not happy? What mod are you using? And specs like resistance watts tc mode or watt mode?

My pico gives me very different results on the same Merlin build. Sometimes tc mode works great, others its a disaster.

Have you tried notch coils?

I found the best flavor from the Merlin uses a big diameter coil mounted high. I have a 22g 4mm coil one of mine now and the vape is stellar. Top of the coil is flush with the top of the posts, Rayon wicked and trimmed to a 30% tail.

I like it simple and use single wrap wire only. I have not tried any fancy twisted types of coils... yet. I don't care for the Temp Control settings at this time and I only vape my SS wires in wattage modes in all my tanks. I vape for flavor only and love my Merlins still. I am MTL is how I Vape also.

Sorry if that dd not help... I like it simple

If you need tools, and rubber gloves don't work, then folks are over tightening their parts.

I agree, so far I've had such good luck with the 5mm ID, Wismec SS Notch coils, I have yet to build a coil for my Merlin.

I ordered some notch coils after hearing about how much you like them. Should be here in the next week or so.

Geez, that's a lot of pressure on me! :)

Just be careful when installing, those non-resistance nickel leads if bent too much will break, and don't over tighten them in the posts. Once installed they last a really long time. I use them in TC mode, and when I rewick I dryburn them a bit in power mode. Good luck!

The Wismec ones are so much better than the clone FT notch coils. They last longer since the SS is quite a bit heavier.

I have the notch coils coming in for my Ultimo RTA, the Ceramic ones were a big disappointment as they are are too hit and miss in manufacturing quality. Hopefully they will be the same heavy gauge like the Wismec, it will be the only things that save the Ultimo RTA from the circular file.
