So why use cotton instead of silica? I made a micro with silica and was under impressed. Does the cotton make all the difference? If so why? Thanks for bearing with me guys.

3 reasons. It is easy to thread in a microcoil which has very small diameter. You can make it the right size so that when it has juice it is not over choked by the coil. It is a wicking beast. Don't forget microcoils are done before wicking so you need something flexible enough to do all those things.

Thanks aalwani for reintroducing me to micro coils.

About eleven wraps of 28g kanthal on a 3.5mm piece of silica. Using an 18 gauge needle in the middle to wrap it nice and tight.

On the Penelope I ended up with 1.7 ohms.

I used the half Mr Krinkle method. Meaning that I have one wick going down the side of the metal channel...to make sure that the NR wire touches and no wick going down the ceramic side.

I use a bigger rubber washer on the center post to ensure that no juice leaks from the bottom.

Using silica instead of cotton, it works perfectly. And at 10 watts on the Vamo V2.
