Micro itself is easy. Wrap them as close as you can and snug. Squeeze them together. Take a torch to it and make it glow some. Squeeze some more, repeat as needed. The torch will help hold it and squeezing while hot will be easier to compress.
Obviously you're squeezing with needle nose or something. Not your fingers.
I want to do an an X on ithaka. That's my problem. I have a couple ideas though brewing.

Nice. I had been considering doing this in my Ithaka but wasn't sure how I was going to twist the wires after I built it and still get it to hold it's shape. Did you have any issues with it wanting to slip off the screwdriver while you were twisting?

Yes and that is why I got those ugly twists :D. But I'm thinking now of calculating the length and twisting beforehand.

I'm trying to figure this out in my head. I usually build a micro coil on a 14g blunt needle. Position the whole shebang(needle and all) on the atomizer and tighten it down. Then I pull the needle out, check the ohms, put it on a device and do dry burns and compress it with a pair of hemostats. Then thread the cotton through and good to go. This is where I get hung up on doing it on an Ithaka. Do you not need the wick in the channels covering the wire to prevent a short when you fire it?

It won't short until it lifts away from the channels. If you left your needle in place and made the NR connections, nice and snug, then slid the needle out and set the coil, as long as those legs don't lift away from the channels, you're good. Think MrKrinkle method. BUT you can drop the tails of your cotton over that wire too.

Why would it short? positive does not touch the body even without wick. BTW I did not squeeze it while on device since the torch and squeeze was more than enough. But still I don't see why it would short out.

Edit: Yankee beat me to it.

I do the torch and squeeze after it's on the device although I do run the wire through a hot flame before I wrap it. It's easier for me that way. I was just worried that assembling it and putting it on the mod without the cotton covering the wires could cause a short someway.

Dual micro coil on ithaka. Ok. 1.8 ohms.
Flavor is good...not blowing me away. Vapor? Th? Well.
I can tell you I could have gone smaller on the micros. But overall verdict? I'm disappointed. Just being honest. The balance is off. That's a LOT if 28g wire in there.

I've done micro on dripper and that satisfied me. This may require a tear down.

Okay it was a pita build but if the coil holds up a while I'll be doing it again. 28g with 7 wraps and it came to a high 1.8 so I'm having to use a kick at 15 watts but it's producing thick plumes of tasty vapor. I'll use a smaller diameter if I do it again though to get the resistance lower with the same number of wraps. Only downside is its a little noisy/ poppy and clouds are too thick to be using this in my cubicle at work...will have to go outside with the stinky smokers lol

Update: that didn't last long... Now wicking is inconsistent for some reason. :(

yankee, i think (I am sure) your problem is airflow

I would have guessed that. But I tweaked it some, opened the air ring and had bupkis for issues on air. I actually got a small screwdriver in between. My quick guess is the sheer size of the coils. I definitely know they should have been smaller.
So I did a single on silica and it's not wicking (without constant priming). Now I've backed myself in a corner. I may try again on a smaller tool. Had no cotton ready.

Sorry for the noob question.

Can i use regular cotton with this?
What is the difference between pharmacy cotton and regular cotton?

Thanks!

No idea really. The thing is when you are in doubt just make sure it is 100% cotton and boil it for 20 minutes. Then rinse it with water and let all the chemicals overflow before removing the cotton.
