Yeah, the LED is not important to me for two reasons.
1) I hate if I'm trying to be descrete and the thing starts blinking because it's low on charge. So much for appearing to smoke the real thing. (I call it the blinking light of shame... heh)
2) As soon as a cigar has some ash built up, unless it's really dark, you don't see much of a glow. Certainly not as bright as any LED is going to produce. So even without an LED on the end, an Ego cigar would appear to be very realistic, without the "risk" of a blinking LED produced by a low battery.
3) I'm also making suggestions that I think would require the least amount of effort on the party of Janty. The non-LED ego's are by far the most widely produced model. They could just take items already in the production plan and with just a couple of changes in finish, produce a cigar. Change the rubberized coating to a more cigar color, and just don't chrome plate the metal used in the band and the end cap. Done. Minimal cost on their part, potentially even less cost. Since they produce the non end-LED verions in greater numbers, they should cost less to produce and therefore be easier to test this market with.
The end of the cigar in your image is actually less realistic IMO. A cigar only looks like that when it's first lit. To really have the look of a cigar being smoked, there needs to be a little bit of an ash cap. There could still be an LED, but it would need to be only faintly visible through the ash.
I like my auto ego quite a bit. However it seems to burn too long after I stop taking a drag. I find it works best with carto's. Since it is an auto, you do have to worry about flooding the switch so I don't drip with it at all. I haven't noticed a cut off yet.
