I'm not a REO veteran; but the way I understand it is . . . .. cartos and dripping atties get their air from the 510 (bottom air intake). That system allowed for e-liquid to sometimes come out of the atty. The catch cup serves a very good purpose there. If one intends to avoid those types of atomizers, the catch cup is unnecessary. Lots of people still use those tho. Not everybody rebuilds everything. If you are only planning on using RBAs and not resorting to cartos or prebuilt (carto-shape-style) dripping atties, there's no need for the catchcup. In fact, the catch cup limits what atties you can use. It is 15mm in diameter. So (although you could use a 510 adapter/extender) you find yourself limited to the smallest atties. Milled, you can throw anything on there.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Like pdib just above, I can't see any downside. The only things I can think of is if the milled cup removes some structural integrity compared to the full cup and RM2 (Not sure I see that happening). The other is that if the milled cup somehow makes it harder to achieve a seal between the cup/510 and the bottom of the rda with an o-ring.

The General has landed!

Sadly, my trident didn't want to dance with the general at first...

So I did what any impatient monkey would do... I grabbed the pliers. In the process, the General took on his first battle scars (the corners of the catch cup)

Oh well!

And Mr. Porcupine... Thank you! The button looks amazing on Penny!

Got my milled grand yesterday and I'm not sure which dripper would be best to modify into a bf. I am not touching my patriot add that has a permanent spot in my templar (famous last words...). I have a Trident clone and an authentic nimbus with huge air holes and neither gets any use. Neither does my igo-L but the screws from that are in my Cyclone (so I could use a Philips instead of the Allen key). My afc Cyclone makes me nervous to mod because I love it and don't want to mess it up but not sure if I want to pay for the bottom fed base.

Decisions... Decisions...

If you decide to bf your Cyclone, read post #67 here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/reos-mods/492768-milled-catch-cups-oversized-atomizers-7.html

Very easy to do.

Experiment with the Trident clone...if you mess it up you're not out much, and if you succeed you've got some experience under your belt for modding the others.

Agree about the Patriot...it's just too darn big for the Reo anyway.

Right now i'm using a $5 drill master dremel tool from harbor freight. Total POS, but it works when i need it!

Wife bought me a high-end dremel-brand dremel tool kit for christmas, but says if she gives it to me now, she'll never see me for the next month!

I can't deny her statement :p
