How difficult would this build be for someone that *doesn't* have access to drill presses, routers and Dremels? Is the box flat sided? I remember seeing mention of sloping sides, but that may have been for a different box...

Any specific tricks to working with the battery packs mentioned, in regards to connecting them? I've only ever worked with discrete batteries (18650 in holders or in a fistpack).

Also...I don't have a plexiglass source or any real way to cut it (see 'without router/dremel', above), so I'm planning on using the front plate as shipped. Is there room to use the mounting window thing I saw in another thread? (screen protector/frame)? Does it hold the chip *and* the display, or just the display?

Question about parts... I have most of them. I am just waiting on a single 18650 battery case from China and who knows when I will get that and I need QuikSteel( i think). I am building a wodden box mod. Should I use quiksteel or is there something else. I tried Ace, Frys, Home Depot and Walmart and can't find it. I don't want to order from the internet and wait another 6-10 days. Where can I get it in So. Calif? Also, would anyone know where I can get that single 18650 battery case, or do I have to wait for China to deliver it?

thanks

Drilling the button holes and such wouldn't be too hard, and with some filework you could drill out the USB fairly easy. The time consuming part would be the screen hole, it could be done with drilling and filework but you probably will be hating life for a while. Or not, depending on how you drill.

Thanks, Dr G - I was thinking drilling corners, then cutting the sides with a coping saw (just inside) and filing to finish.

Although, I suppose that since I'll have to order everything (and I *do* mean everything including the fender washer and mounting tape), that I could try to get a couple scraps of plexiglass as well...decisions, decisions...

Of course, the mini-20d looks sweet, too...just not sure of run time.

Not sure what you are using quick steel for....but you can get it at most auto parts stores like autozone or etc. But I wouldn't recommend quick steel, at least the putty I have used. I would recommend quick setting jb weld two part epoxy.

I was going to use it to secure my dna charger and dna 20 to the wood.

I'm really hesitant to use any glue or epoxy that will more or less be permanent, or at least a royal pita to get apart if needed. I prefer good double sided tape, I have had good luck with the 3M extreme tape. It can be found at lowes or Home Depot and if memory serves there is two strengths high strength and the extreme high strength. Not sure how it will stick to the wood, but you could always glue in a thin metal or plastic plate. Hot glue also works ok and can usually be removed fairly easily. Drg makes a good point about using the quick steel to make a bracket, it stays fairly pliable long enough that you can press the DNA in to make a mold and then remove and let cure.

Another question for those who have built a Milo... what's the weight?

I was a bit worried about size, then did a comparison - it's a half-inch taller than a fistpack. Width and depth look to be the same (or close enough as makes no difference)...

It really depends on which batteries you use. With two 1200mah lipos mine weighs about as much as my provari std with ext cap. Maybe a little less. I Don't have a small enough scale to be more accurate.

Thanks, Wyley - that's good to know. Certainly doesn't make it over-weight for a shirt pocket.

Was planning on using the batts listed in the thread...but that brings up another thought: are the cells the same physical size in this mod as the mini/stealth mod? Doesn't look as if there's enough room to move the DNA/display for a third cell with the 'as built' batteries, but it seems that, if the mini/stealth batteries are shorter, that you could move the DNA/display up to the top and have *just* enough room to shoehorn *three* cells in for 3600mah.

That's what modding is all about...... this enclosure can work with many different batteries....just move stuff around till ya get what ya want....even big mah 18650's should fit....and a thought.....the more batteries ya cram in the box, the longer it takes to charge them safely...and the heavier the mod becomes....and 3 li-po's surely will fit as ya can just move stuff around....

just food for thought.... :):):) I'm sticking with my mini's at 2.2 oz. at 2-5/8" x 1-1/4" x 3/4" but building a mini is more tedious and exacting than the Milo....

Hiya retird...

Yeah, I hear ya on weight/charge time. I *really* like how small the mini is, but the problem is that I work 12 hour shifts and a fair amount of time where I *don't* have access to recharge, so 'runtime' is a concern. I know I could build two minis and swap, or carry a battery pack/cable, but I really don't need *more* stuff in my pockets, y'know? Still and all, I imagine I'll probably end up building a mini at some point...just *too* tempting.

But for the Milo...I'm thinking 3600mah of battery would last even *mamu* a full waking day... :p

Yep, I fully appreciate your need for battery life....sounds like ya have a plan....go for it....and keep us informed of your progress....looking forward to seeing pictures of your creation....

Note.....2 imr 18650 1600 mah batteries may be an option to explore....just a thought...
