Just to add to the conversation... I don't mix for others, this is all purely for my own use. All I truly care about is consistency of the flavor of my mix, and the ease of making and cleaning up. All 3 of which were more than worth the $95 investment.

One of the problems that led me to mixing this way were the multitude of ways that my flavors showed up. i.e. many different styles of dropper tips, sometimes even different between the same supplier in the same order, or no tips at all. None of it matters as all I have to care about is did I meet the weight of the item I am adding.

the calculator I use for this is found here:

Here is the scale I use - Less than $20.00 (USA seller):

6"+ x 9"+ = Large enough to do the job. Been using mine for about a year.

I like the idea of mixing this way. Just one thing I can't get my head around... For instance the bottles of flavoring that doesn't come with a dropper top, what are you guys using?? Not a syringe I hope?

A funnel.

In to a squeeze bottle (different sizes for flavorings/nic/Vg) :)

I bought about a dozen glass droppers to dispense things that didn't come with a drip tip or dropper... For my PG & VG, I have lab squeeze bottles. The glass droppers clean up easily with hot water...

Is this sensitivity enough to measure by the drops? Sorry if this is a silly question.

A drop is usually .02 or .03 grams, so this works. Sensitivity to .001 grams might be desirable for some, but a scale with sensitivity to .01g is probably what most people are using for this purpose.

For my Mixes, a +/- .01g Scale works Fine.

Would I like to have a .001g Scale? Sure. I just Don't want to spend the Extra money on one. When what I have works Great.

Money is Tight right now.

Trust me, I feel ya'!

Let me ask you this, when calibrating a scale, what do you do if the scale isn't reading correctly. I imagine it's different for different scales, but I was confused in general by how the calibration works if the scale isn't reading the calibration weights properly.

The Scale I have has a Procedure to do a Calibration.

Hit CAL Button.

Wait for Display to Blink.

Place 100g Standard on Tray.

Wait for Display to Blink.

Place 300g Standard on Tray.

Wait for Display to Blink.

Yada, Yada, ya.

Most Electronic Scales have some means of doing a Manual Calibration. But you do have to have a Set of Standards.

BTW - Many Inexpensive Scales will measure More Accurately in the Middle of their Weight Range. So many people that say have a 0 ~ 300g scale will place a 100g Standard on the Scale and Zero it Out.

This Works, of course, unless you need to Weigh something that is 200g or more.

Okay, it's sorta like my coffee maker's self-cleaning function. LOL. But seriously, so some have certain features and whatnot, but there is a way for all and the scale will likely have directions on accomplishing it. Thanks. Ordering one tonight, though it's not the Adam Scale I want, but it'll likely beat the money I was going to spend on new syringes -- I hate how much flavor those things retain!!!!!

Before I buy things, I like to see if I can Download the User Manual.

That way I can see what is what is Up with something like Calibration.

I just got an inexpensive scale from amazon that was mentioned earlier in this thread. It is accurate to .01 and most of the drops from my droppers are between .03-.04. Going to .001 would basically be overkill (for me) because I don't have any way to add or subtract such a small amount. I checked the scale I have against some scientific weights I have around and it was accurate right down to the .01g ingot. It wold not weigh .01 but when I put a .05 on it and then added the .01 it read .06 so that is as accurate a weigh as I can dispense. Plug in would be nice but unless you are borderline commercial, this one does every thing you need it to do Electronic Pocket Digital Scale 0 01g 300g Weight Precision Jewelry Scale US | eBay

Make sure you have some easy to clean glass funnels around that fit in the neck of your bottles. Put bottle with funnel on scale, add first ingredient and tare, add second tare, etc. and then all you do is rinse the funnel.

I started with syringes, etc... but almost immediately went to weighing. Started with a small scale from Amazon to see if I would like doing it this way and within a week, graduated to this scale:

http://www.tmart.com/300g-x-0.001g-B3003T-Electronic-Balance-Laboratory-Scale-White_p152567.html

I almost cannot believe how easy it makes all of this and especially how quick and repeatable with very few tools and very quick cleanup.

I also cannot believe the negative reaction by some when it comes to weighing. Over on FB, in the DIY groups, they are endlessly talking about syringes and counting drops, etc... but GOD HELP YOU if you suggest that they try weighing... The purpose of those groups being to help people DIY safely, easily and consistently... but weighing? Might as well be a liberal trying to talk to a bunch of tea party folks... or visa versa

I've had a simple suggestion to use a scale deleted from a topic that went on forever about how to calibrate and count drops with the explanation being that 'weighing is too confusing for beginners'... What a load of crap...

Another group was met with a trolling jerk who kept going on about how different VG's weigh different amounts, how ridiculously expensive it is, how inaccurate it is etc, etc... my only response, besides the obvious, was to ask them what their time was worth in $$$... in the end, that topic too was deleted...

So basically, I've decided that if I see someone ask about weighing over there, I will take it off line and PM them... but I'll be damned if I'm going to waste a single key stroke 'helping' in a group that doesn't really want any help, other than to continuously tell people how to eyeball syringes, calibrate drops and not vape with flavors that they buy at Walmart...

Considering just how pleasurable and easy weighing is, I just cannot believe the resistance to it..

Yea man...ditto:
Got a vid i did on DIY ejuice making...using dig.scale & stir plate......god i hate having to drink nightly...but life is wha tis tis.
lol.
