The suspense on the condition of my finish is killing me , but unless my tracking on two items is messed up and not updating I'm going assume they've pushed till Monday.

Too bad that there's no "unlike" button.. :(

Well, I mean, all things being equal, the finish is not that bad, but, if the mod comes in direct contact with a metallic object - for example, I just rubbed my wedding ring against it deliberately, and there's now a scratch on the mod. I mean, you really have to put yourself into it to rub it down to the metal. All our mods get scratched up here or there with rings or what not. The only way to compare it to the finish on the older batch is if someone is willing to rub something metallic on their microstick with a serial number below 1000.

Properly anodized aluminum is difficult to scratch however rubbing stainless steel against it will scratch it. Something like brass or gold (keys/rings) shouldn't scratch the anodized coating.

I agree, I did have a gun, made in Israel, Jericho, otherwise known as a "baby eagle", and yes the ano job on this mod does not come close to what I had on my gun. Other than that, it's a nice mod, and i do expect it to get scratched up, but I would not put it in the same pocket with my keys, brass or not :)

Just took my wedding ring finger, slid it on slightly as if it scratched with normal hold. Left a good mark that I "buffed out" on my sweatshirt.
No to is his perfect and totally resistant. But no mod will share the same pocket with anything else or another mod. This mod can fit any pocket including those small jeans pockets.

Thanks Yankee for running the experiment - I pressed my ring a little too hard against it - blame it on the beers :D
So, I can see the scratch on mine still, but I kind of have to shift the mod so that the light hits it just right to really see the scratch - personally, not a big deal to me. This mod cost me as much as 10 days of smoking- I'll get over it :)

Oddly under a light since I know where it is, I can faintly see it.
Now, this doesn't mean it's going to share my pocket with keys and spare change. I'm not looking to muck it up. This mark is the type of mark you COULD have if you have a ring on, slip a little to catch it, or grip it differently since the mod is the size if half my palm :)

Like i said, no big deal :) Now, if this was a Vela, and I scratched it up like that, I would be "miffed". Face it people, mods will be scratched. Granted that the designer of the mod promises a higher grade of anodizing, still, the form factor of this mod and a relatively better scratch-proof coating than let's say any other polished/brushed mod out there, I think that the mod is definitely worth the investment.
I've seen black anodized ProVaris scratched quite a bit, and people still love them. If it comes to it, I'll just get a leather case for it - if I can't stand the scratches. I'm not trying to belittle the posts made by other people before regarding the promised higher quality of the finish of the mod, but when all said and done, I'll take a free leather case from the vendor over having to return it in order to get a better finish on it - I just like it too much to let it go for a month :D

VR recommended wiping with alcohol. They said it was powder from the gloves that the workers wear while packaging but didnt do any good. I am really saddened by sending it back but I will get another one real soon, I hope!!

I see. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that you will get one with a better finish soon.

There is a difference between "can it scratch" and it comes out looking like someone removed it from a wood stove. They should come as advertised. WE should leave the character marks.
I just wanted to clear up in case anyone thinks I'm saying "what's the big deal".

100% with Yankee on this one. It should look exactly as advertised, if we give it some "character" after we get it, that's a different story :D

Are these scratching down to the base metal or is it just the anodizing?

What I had wasn't even what I would all a scratch. It was almost like a "gold rub". With a good rub on my sweatshirt it came off. What it left was a very very faint surface scratch. No metal exposed.
What I've seen pictures of in this thread the last few pages is very different than what I have.
In my pic, there is a mark between the two red points. Look hard.
Keep looking.

Barely there. And hard as hell to photograph.
