I'm getting people trying to point out how DANGEROUS vaping is. "It's STILL smoking" many say. Others say they heard on the news that it can kill you.. I'm getting more flack from people when I vape than I did when I smoked. Some have actually questioned me on when I plan to quit. I ask them when they plan on dying.. because that's about when I plan to quit, personally.

Has the opposition stepped up the fear that much over the last year?? I've been so busy, I rarely come here anymore, but omg, it's getting worse out there...

I typically start that sort of conversation with "you do realize how much they stand to gain if I go back to smoking right?" Then I explain exactly what is going on with the ecig industry, the money involved, the indisputable evidence, the fact im vaping 4 chemicals with no carcinogens compared to smoking 4000 chemicals with 40 carcinogens... And usually that takes about 3 minutes, and they get real quiet and I tell them to check it out themselves at CASAA. I have personally seen at least 3 people vaping ecigs not too long after discussions like that.

I believe the good outweighs the bad when you compare ecigs to cigarettes. There's no proof, yet, stating otherwise. My own health tells me ecigs are better than cigarettes. Ecigs are getting a bad rap due to BT & BP as far as I'm concerned and until they get their grubby greedy hands in the honey pot they won't stop. All you can do is stand your ground and stand up for your right to do what's better for your body. Those others do not know what they are saying. They've been brainwashed by propaganda.

The government is and has been putting out all sorts of misleading info on ecigs. This is what happens when the system gets corrupted. People believe if authority figures say something it has to be true. Basically the government is manufacturing consent of non vapers just like they did with smoking. They villify vapers and get consent(manufactured, not real) of the majority(non vapers) to over tax, ban, or whatever they have in mind. They call this democracy, but of course, it's not, it's criminal. The sad part is, this type of behaviour has become standard operating procedure for just about everything the government involves itself in, you can't truly trust anything they say.

At the moment there is more propaganda from the tobacco companies "researchers" and "doctors" against vaping, then against smoking.
When you're walking down the street vaping you stand out a lot more then the smokers.
People need to hate/fear something or someone, at every given time, and now it's vaping.
Also, old fashioned people fear new things without reason, heard a father of a smoking girl tell her "smoking i know so vaping must be worst"

It is sad. I was with a patient the other day who was complaining that her grandaughter was smoking a lot. I made the comment that I liked the electronic cigarettes, and she said, "Oh, I see them more and more on the news. Turns our they are really bad for you!".

We live in such a health-conscious society, it's hard to keep the big picture perspective that life itself is "bad for you", health is not guaranteed (in fact, ill-health is pretty much a given at some point), and so on. People want a moralistic meaning to health, even if there really isn't one ("I'm a good person because I'm healthy").

People that argue against e-cigarettes because they are "bad for you" are just not being rational. I could be hit by a car walking down to the convenience store... am I really supposed to worry about the miniscule risks from vaping? And how would such a fear-ridden society function?

fixed

the sad fact in the matter is the food industry (also governed by the FDA) is further down the rabbit hole than our own struggle w/cigs vs. e-alternatives.

sheeple flock in droves to packages blatantly stating they're missing certain ingredients for which nearly the entirety of the ingredient list implies the very ingredient the front of the package states the "food" inside is completely void of. anything that needs to be labeled as healthy certainly is not. in our health-conscious society, why else would we be historically less healthy than any other time in history where disease wasn't rampant? yes, modern technology has allowed us to live sickly and miserably for much longer, but the stats don't lie when it comes to how healthy we really are with all these "healthy alternatives".

it's sickening. literally.

It mostly comes down to misinformation. People have mentioned to me how they heard vaping is bad for you.

Mostly I think it's misinformation spread by the higher ups. If everyone in the country stopped smoking and drinking how quickly you think the economy would collapse? Vaping is the single biggest threat the tobacco industry and the government has ever dealt with that will directly tap into the billions+ a year they make off cigarettes alone. Not to mention dip and snuff and chewing tobacco.

I get that all the time. I have had people tell me that i haven't quit because i am still inhaling nicotine. I also have people saying they are worse for you etc. This is why i don't go out of my way to try to explain or get others to try vaping. If they ask then i do. As for the people that are negative, i don't care as time will tell and i feel better so that is all i need.

UK vaper here. Until recently i was being congratulated for giving up the dreaded "proper" cigarettes as the "clean" people say. It seems that there has been a spate of misinformation in a certain UK national newspaper about e-cigarettes along with the very unfortunate death of a dog that chewed a bottle of e-liquid that the irresponsible owner left lying around (cue "yes it does have a toxic sticker on it but still"). This weekend i was informed by a patron in my local pub that he was an asthmatic and that he found it disgraceful that i was "smoking" in the same place as him in case it caused him to have an asthma attack. On top of this my employer (a uk government agency) has banned e-cigarettes in the workplace and i now have to go out with the proper smokers and inhale their carcinogens. The way that i look at it that someone is always going to moan about something, i try to educate but as they say, you can't educate pork!

it has got really worse lately im finding. if im not in the mood to explain in great detail or I know the person has there mind set and nothing will change it, I just give them this reply to shut them up: "how much tax revenue do cigarettes bring the government's that they are loseing more and more of everyday to vapeing, do you not think if there was proof of these things being really that bad that every government wouldn't ban them in a heart beat". most times I have got "never thought of it like that" response. :):)

I sometimes use the legal high example, they were banned pretty sharpish, so the UK government can move quickly if it wants to. I often wonder how much of this misinformation is down to the tobacco companies and their influence on lobbyists? They must be losing millions as are the government coffers (last time i looked it was like £60m a day in tobacco taxes). A sticky situation that the government can't win so they do what they always do and stick their heads in the sand!
