Vapa--I said the problem lies with using unprotected---most here know that, so why are you saying "so unprotected can't blow up"? as that is exactly what happened here.
This problem is real easy to stop---just use protected batteries.
Sun
so this where you ordered from?Back from th doc, everything A-OK! The burns are not serious, barely more than a bad sunburn (no blistering) and my eye is fine, just sore from the contact. No corneal damage, seeing fine, my eyeball just aches. Doc says it should pass in a couple days.
The batteries were "Evergreen". I ordered silver ones from 24hourbatteries.com from the CR123 section and they sent those, so I assumed it was an equivalent swap-out. Nothing on the site about their being protected or not, and nothing on the packaging, as it was clear plastic.
I was using a 501 to 801 adapter at the time as well. Not sure if that made any difference or not.
You are very smart. Do you build mods too?
This should answer all your questions about battery's
Electropaedia, Energy Sources and Energy Storage, Battery and Energy Encyclopaedia and History of Technology
The atty may of shorted out somehow to cause this, was the atty new, old, or used before? Did you poke at the bridge any? I have heard a story about a brand new atty that was a defect, and blew up a BB, because the person kept pushing the button like 10 times when it was not working.
Glade you are OK.
so this where you ordered from?
CR123A LITHIUM BATTERY
They dont even say they are rechargable??? Just cr123 Not rcr123
And they are $1.98 for 2=99 cents each Very Very cheap crappy batts nothing about protection on them even from the site
I would never order a Batt with no info about it other then its a 3 volt cr123
Protection is a must!!!!!!! Glad your ok but just checking out the info on the site i would have never ordered them no way Going the cheap route is not a smart idea
hopefully you have learned a lesson
The batteries were "Evergreen" CR123A I got from 24hourbatteries, though the ones in the ad you order from are silver, these were a metallic green. I have some others that are silver and protected (16340) so I made the assumption that the company swappd out the ones in the ad for an "equivalent" and that these would be protected. There is nothing on the site that mentions whether they are protected or not.
I am the one that loaded them and held them up to my face, so I am at fault for not being absolutely POSITIVE that they were safe, but at the same time it was an honest mistake. I read about batteries before I ever bought any and use only protected in my Little Chuck and thought that is what I was getting. Besides, I have never had any battery blow up before nor have I ever met anyone who has had a battery explode, either. Lesson learned, for sure.
The atty was brand new, used with a 501-801 adapter I got when I ordered the Chuck. It was not poked, prodded, or dismantled in any way, save the foam mod I did to it, similar to what I do with my 501s and as I learned how reading the mod section of this site.
I had a 501 on there before it blew, but wasn't getting much vapor with that, but it was behaving the way the Little Chuck does when the atty is dry or needs a battery change. I decided to experiment some more with the 801 since I had to refill anyway, and the mishap ensued.
however, CR123A is not the same as RCR123A.
CR123A is not a rechargeable battery.
RCR123A is a rechargeable battery.
Hey everyone ive read a good bit of this post and im thinking there was some user error here but im not sure, and feel for this user and hope he is OK.
Hello,
This may be a little off topic but since everyone is talking about the batts I thought I would ask.
I had put a protected batt into an e-cig which turned out to not have been charged and it got very hot very quickly to where I could feel it through the metal. I took it out right away and put it on the charger to check for a charge which showed red. My question is, will the battery be okay to use even though it got that hot to begin with. It did not get hot on the charger. Thanks for any help.
If you had a battery get hot, I'd toss it and never use it again... Not worth the risk of a few dollars...
