That is very disturbing news. I'm sorry to hear you got hurt, and I hope you recover quickly. I am very glad you at least had glasses on to protect your eyes a bit. I have to ask, is this an issue with the 6v chuck (using 2 batteries) only, or is this a concern with the single battery, little chuck as well? I read up on the 510/801 adapter causing a short which can lead to this happening, but it only mentioned using 2 batteries, and not just one. I feel it is important to post as much info as we can about this to help prevent other people from making the same mistake. It's kind of scary to think you ordered what was supposed to be protected batteries, and they sent you unprotected instead. How can we know for sure that we have the correct battery in this situation? Is there something listed on the label that will let us know we actually have protected batteries? I have ordered 2 of the little chucks, and want to be sure I am not putting myself, or my boyfriend in danger when using these PV's.

I was vaping a few minutes ago, with an 810 atty and an adapter, and with what I THOUGHT were protected CR123A batteries.

Well, I was wrong. The draw was difficult and vapor nonexistent, so I changed to another set of batteries and put the originals in the charger. Still not up to snuff, and I noticed that the batteries in the charger read full, so I swapped them back.

I had the cart in my mouth, button pushed and was drawing a little, then there was a very loud explosion, about the same as an M-80. Something hit my left eye and knocked my glasses off (lucky I had them on!) and the left side of my face got burned and covered in soot.

Of course, as soon as it blew I dropped the Chuck (or it blew out of my hand), and ran to the bathroom as I could not see out of my left eye. I rinsed the soot off and cleaned up my eye and it hurts, but I can see. I think the atty blew off and hit me in the eye, deflected partially by my glasses.

Then, from the living room, I hear another explosion and there are two scorch marks on the carpet. I tried to pick the Chuck up but it was way too hot, so I got a towel and threw it out on the grass. There is a Chuck-sized melt spot on the floor now.

The Chuck has cooled off some (still very hot) and the graphics are all melted but other wise intact. I haven't been able to open the battery compartment to see what is going on in there.

I am posting this as a word of warning, make absolutely sure that your batteries are protected! I thought that the ones I got were, but the ones that came looked different than the picture online, so I just assumed they were a swap of the same type. Stupid mistake on my part.

Make no mistake, unprotected batteries are very dangerous.

The atty may of shorted out somehow to cause this, was the atty new, old, or used before? Did you poke at the bridge any? I have heard a story about a brand new atty that was a defect, and blew up a BB, because the person kept pushing the button like 10 times when it was not working.
Glade you are OK.

Wow! Glad your ok BigD. This is the second time I've seen an exploded PV using 2 3v batteries. Be assured this has nothing to do with the Chuck. It's all about the batteries. If your vaping and suddenly get no vapor don't push that button again. I don't see this happening unless the circuit is complete with the button pushed but who knows. I had it happen to me twice. I was vaping, everything was normal and then no vapor. I pushed the button a few more times and the Chuck started getting hot. Took the batteries out and got burned. I don't know what caused it but I'm using the LifePO4 batteries and maybe thats why I didn't get an explosion.

It does also state not too use them in high powered flashlights. Meaning that they can vent, and which they have before.

Sucks that it vented in your face. Hope that you get well soon.

Venting????
No one said anything about venting!
What is this venting of which you speak? (wishing to avoid said venting);)

When a battery explodes it gives off gas just like a rocket taking off. That gas has to escape somewhere so in his case it came through the atty connector. This is why I was thinking a few weeks ago it might be a good idea for these Chucks to have a hole drilled in the end cap in case things like this happen. I know the switch has air escape vents but it may not be enough.

Jeff says take the cap off the bottom of the Chuck. Then blow into it, and it's vented!

The yellow ones are rated to low for E-Cigs. You are over maxing them by about 3 times with a 510. Of course the max rating is lower than it really is, but a short caused by an atomizer as such. Could cause the batteries to hit the point of no return making them vent violently.

I've used the yellow ones for a long time without any issues tho. It does not happen all the time.

I know about that. The switch is not sealed to the tube so that's where the air escapes. But hearing about BidD incident makes me think there should be a bigger hole for the instant blast of pressure to escape.

I just tried that on my Chuck, and I have juice coming out of the switch hole, do I have a juice fountain in mine?, lol

Back from th doc, everything A-OK! The burns are not serious, barely more than a bad sunburn (no blistering) and my eye is fine, just sore from the contact. No corneal damage, seeing fine, my eyeball just aches. Doc says it should pass in a couple days.

The batteries were "Evergreen". I ordered silver ones from 24hourbatteries.com from the CR123 section and they sent those, so I assumed it was an equivalent swap-out. Nothing on the site about their being protected or not, and nothing on the packaging, as it was clear plastic.

I was using a 501 to 801 adapter at the time as well. Not sure if that made any difference or not.
