Well, nicotine is a vaso constrictor. It just is. Constrict your arteries enough and you're just.....well.....dead.

And well... Nicotine is also found in several foods. So are they going to not hire or fire you for eating eggplant parm the night before your drug test?

And well... Eat enough sugar and junk food every day and you become diabetic. Eat enough fatty foods and you clog your arteries, do enough of anything and you die. Going to start just banning the human race entirely?

Your hospital has some BS policies in place. Drug testing of any kind is a violation of your body and privacy.

The problem is, people are too sheepish and go along with whatever gets thrown at them, which is why we lose rights in the workplace and everywhere else for that matter. No one wants to stand up and fight for what they believe in.

You must be one of the fortunate few that work for an employer that has virtually no policies or procedures that you disagree with.

The biggest insult to individual rights has been the Patriot Act, whole other ball game there. UGH!!!

Although straying way off topic, on this point, we are in 100% agreement!

Unlike a job, we unfortunately we don't really have the freedom to go elsewhere. Technically we can leave the country, but that's not what America is about. However, we are the employers of the government. It's an inversion of power that the employees make the decision for the employers, but we willfully delegate those powers to them. Unfortunately many people get sucked into the two-party soap opera and vote straight tickets w/o any idea of where the employees stand on important issues. It's a sweeping generalization, but the applicants all lie to us so it's hard to know where they stand.

The fact is I'm pretty sure that banning the use of nicotine is a discriminatory nightmare. while they have the right to ban the use of such substances on their property or even your right to use them while on their clock but, and this is HUGE. They do NOT have the right to ban your use of a legal product while you are not on their grounds or on the job. And this must be challenged. Your employers rights to manage your life once you punch out and leave their property. If you go home and vape or even smoke a cigarette it is absolutely no ones business but your own.

Now they can however base their decision to offer you healthcare as a benefit on your nicotine status if they so choose but as that remains a part of the overall compensation package you might well be able to recoup those losses.

We need to stop being complaisant to the usurpation of our liberties.

That is unless you live in a right to work state, In which case you should move.
