The epoxy I used is Plumber's Epoxy Putty. So far it seems really versatile. It's pliable like clay for about 5 minutes then hard as a rock in about 20 minutes.
Once it's hard it's very tool-able. You can sand it, drill it, cut it like wood. Very handy stuff. Seems very strong too. I made some different shapes and thicknesses with it when I was testing it out, and it seems pretty unbreakable down to about an 1/8" thick (maybe even a 1/16" with the right shape). Cheap too. I have about 50 cent worth in this mod (and that includes the first round redo).

SmokinScott: There's a spring in the bottom, and the batt goes in button side down. It's the same type of switching I used on my juicebox. It's a little easier to see on it...

Damn that's tiny. Another nice design highping :thumb:

How about putting the connector and the battery at a 90 degree angle to each other? That might take care of your thumb in the mouth issue without increasing size too much. I don't know that it will look quite so elegant however.

:)

or maybe even just putting the atty at a 45° angle.

What about a 30-45 degree angle between the batt and atty? Then you could actually put your index finger in the groove. It'd be really sweet if the button was configured into the groove space so that it couldn't be accidentially fired when in pocket.

Yeah, the problem with angling the atty is that the whole thing gets bigger. My intent here was to see how small I could make a BB mod. I could still get a little smaller because the two tubes spread away from each other a little when I was furiously sculpting, so the battery and atty are further away from each other than I originally intended.

The pocket firing is not going to be an issue. It has a little travel distance before it makes contact and the spring has quite a bit of resistance to it. I would guess (total guess) that it takes about a pound of pressure on it to push it all the way down. With most designs this might be a problem, but because of its shape and the fact that you push the button with the thumb it's more of a 'squeezing' than a 'push'.

I have been using it a lot today and it has not bothered me at all that my thumbnail touches my bottom lip while I'm hitting it. But I think I'll just bring the atty up about another 1/4 inch on the next round and that should be a little better. Also, I didn't really leave enough of the atty barrel exposed to screw and unscrew it easily either, so a 1/4" ought to make that part better too.

I think I'm going to try to make the next one in two pieces too. That way I can take off the bottom to get at the connector threads for cleaning and such.

Well I built my second one yesterday to work out the button design. I know exactly what I want to do, but I'm still having issues figuring out how to pull it off.

Anyway, here's a pic of my second...

BTW: I have been using my first one since the day I built it, and I love it. It's small enough to fit in the little (5th) pocket of my jeans, and you can't even see it when I'm hitting it. It's very stealthy and hits great.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I would like to be able to make these and sell them for around 30-35 bucks (some day), but right now it's taking way too long to make each one to be able to sell them for that. I am working on an easier way to produce them, but I still have some research to do to make that possible.

What do you guys think, 30-35 sound about right? I think if I can't get that much for them it's not going to be worth it to me. And I would not feel right asking any more than that for what it is.

Yeah the making a mold is what I'm researching.
The problem with having someone else make them is that there are huge up-front tooling costs, and by the time I sell the fist dozen of them, someone else will copy it and undercut my price.
As with any mod in this business, there's only about a 2-3 month window to make any $ before the idea is knocked off by others. Take the carlos juice box for example. Everyone is buying them now, but in the next couple months he will have to compete with the Mr Puffer, the Mahmba 2, etc. His days of selling out are very numbered.
Maybe I'm a little pessimistic about the whole thing, but I don't think I'll be quitting the day job anytime soon to make and sell mods.
