This thing looks awesome! I googled "mrpuff mrpuffer" and found where he's been hanging out... he's got new pics and 2 videos, the mrpuffer really looks cool, and exactly what a pv should be (with a juice feeding system)... I've been waiting for something like this for awhile. Once I get back to the US I'll definitely buy one. Good job mrpuff! I hope you get approved here soon.

Well the TI stuff has a ridiculously high current handling capability for what we need. There are a lot of logic level gate FET's out there that will do the job nicely.

I recently got a bunch of these in:

Digi-Key - SI2333DS-T1-E3CT-ND (Manufacturer - SI2333DS-T1-E3)

And they worked quite nicely. About $1 a piece.

You rock Scott!

Can you recommend a similar FET, in a larger physical package like a TO-220? Something that would work for a 3.7 volt mod. I really don't want to try SM soldering. I think the "M" really stands for Masochist instead of Mount, and I don't have the hands or patience for that, anymore.

Ideally, the specs would cause it not to work below 3V, since that is about where the Lithium family drops off. This would take care of any over-discharge issues. If I add a polyfuse, that takes care of short circuit issues. I am a bit nervous about these "safe" lithium technologies, (LiFePO4 and LiMn). Seems like both say don't discharge below X or charge above Y. That leaves a lot up to the person pressing the button. Or what if the button is accidentally pressed?

Thanks in advance.

No need to be obscure. It's not against any rules to post links to other forums. MrPuff has been updating the status of his project here.

I assume you are getting a piece of the action to circumvent the rules that say he can no longer post that information here.

The shill pretends to have no association with the seller/group and gives onlookers the impression that he or she is an enthusiastic customer.

Nope. I'm not even particularly interested in this mod. I just don't agree that the rules should apply in this case. And like I said, there isn't anything that says I can't post links.

Wow.. sorry that I missed this post! Let me do a bit of research and see if I can find you a larger package with similar specs.

Edit: Back. I did some poking around.. and while there are FETs in the TO-220 package that will probably do a decent job.. for the most part people like DigiKey don't appear to stock them. Reason: When you get into that package, manufacturers expect you to be handling a lot of current.. like in the 20+A range. And generally speaking, FETs designed to handle that kind of current don't usually have switching characteristics tailored for a single lil 3.7VDC source.

Thanks for your time and expertise Scott. Much appreciated.

Just spent an hour on mouser.com.... and darnit! What a buzz wrecker.

Guess I better learn SM soldering. Have you actually used these Si2333DS in a mod? Do you know where I can find the actual dimensions of the various chip carriers?

You don't need a chip carrier. As long as you're not using a soldering iron with a tip the size of a sharpie, they're not hard to work with - especially something like a FET with only three legs. An extra hand tends to be really helpful though, for this and for a lot of other soldering jobs. One of the best $5 tool investments you can make if you plan to do small projects like this.

Sorry. I know that sounded weird, but here is what a chip carrier is. Essentially, all of those numbers like TO-220 and SO-23 are various specs for "chip carriers". Unfortunately I was in a hurry when I posted the question. Had I just looked at the bottom of that article I would have found the surface mount package sizes link, which would have answered my own question.

Thanks for the dose of confidence about the soldering though. Needed that! I also need a good low wattage iron, steady hands and another pair of eyes. Hopefully two out of three will be good enough. :D

There is 2k5 geek bonus points for anyone who can tell me what the "T" in "TO-220" stands for and provide a reference. I always thought it stood for Terminal Outline. But maybe it's Transistor Outline or something else? Anyone know for sure?

I received my Mr.Puffers on Wednesday. I got 1 510 model and 1 901 model. Mia Culpa i have no useable 901 atties and had to order some and those still have not arrived so everything im talking about will concern the 510 Model only.

First off....its small. Truly amazed at how he fit everything into the box. It works as advertised. I have been using it pretty much non-stop the past 2 days with no issues whatsoever. When I first took it out of the box i was really worried that i might break something. I opened up the box and the tubing to the mouthpiece came out and i wanted to cry and then realized you just push it back and your ready to go. You need it this way because everytime you take the mouthpiece off the tube is going to come out and this is a good thing.

I found that therre really isnt a learning curve to this mod. I got everything ready, filled the bottle, put 3 drops into the polyfill, pushed the bottle a couple of times and have just been vaping away ever since. When the vape gets a little dry i just pump the bottle a couple of times and then start vaping again. I have not flooded the attie since i have had it and there has been no leaking from the tube or bottle yet. The neat thing is you can see how much juice your pumping into the atty so i really dont see how you could flood it unless your a newbie and you just dont know what your doing. Im not quite sure this really is a device for newbies because they need to have there own atty's and juice available when they get this mod. Of course this could be remedied in future versions by including atty's with the mod.

I can honestly say that the 510 has never been my favorite device. I much prefer to use my silver bullet or a kr808 with cartomizers but i can say i have had my MP1 with me from the moment it came in the mail because its just so convenient. I dont have to change out cartomizers and i dont have to drip or worry about anything. I can just pump and vape, pump and vape. If your a traditional 510 vaporer then you have to get one of these...its that good.

My 901 attys shoud come in the mail tommorrow and i cant wait to try my other mp1 with those.

Great job Mr.Puff....keep up the great work !!

Got my 901 attys in on Saturday and wow. Just love it with my MP1. I have dedicated it to my Atomic Cinnacide aka (atomic fireball) juice from Tasty Vapor. This is my #1 juice and i dont waste any of that stuff.

Battery life: I was able to get a full days vape out of 1 battery. I use 3/4 different devices thru the day but i would still say that i put the MP1 thru some heavy useage.

I would love to eventually see a Cartomizer version of the MP1. I played around a bit and was able to mod a cartomizer but the problem is that you have to drill the hole so high up that you can barely get your mouth around the cart to take a drag. I have been told that the new cartomizers from vapornine are bigger...they hold 1.4ML of juice so im going to order some of those and see what i can do.

But hands down the MP1 lives up to what it is intended for. I can give you a hassle free vape. I have had mine for 4 days now and have not ran into any issues. I have vaped 7ML of juice with both of them so i think i have pretty well put it thru the paces.
