So, I'm not a stranger to DIY by any means...but I am very new to extracting Flavor/Nicotine from pipe tobacco. Lets just say that I had a VERY bad experience...Now I am not sure if this was because of the Shisha or because it is 85 degrees in my house, (Broken AC) But I just want to document my experience and maybe someone can shed some light on the subject and tell me what I did wrong, or maybe it was just a bad reaction or ....blah, IDK either way here it goes.

I purchased some pipe tobacco and started looking at the other stuff that they have in the store and found some "Fantasia Hookah tobacco" well, thats cool. lets look at the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS; VIRGINIA TOBACCO, HONEY, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, PRESERVATIVES, FLAVOR, NICOTINE 0.5%, TAR 0%

Now I see that there is really nothing harmful in this mix other than the "Preservatives" IDK if they are harmful or not, but I figure that there shouldn't be a problem since it is smokable and Picked this one up because it had a wonderful smell to it.

Extraction Process:

Filled a glass dropper with 50g of Shisha and covered it with VG. After that I set it on the stove in a pot of Slightly boiling water for 20 minutes. After that, I took it off the pot and let it set for quite a while and cool while I stirred it for a while letting it all get good and happy. After it was significantly cooler, I put it back on the boiler and let it go for 20 minutes again...Same process.

After letting it set for a while, I filtered it through a 400 mesh and Coffee filter (had to press pretty hard for it to come through)
The product was Very dark red and smelled just like it did in the package, sweet and full of goodness.

After it was cool to room temp, I put a few drops in my Atty and took a pull on it. (Sig #20, 6V, IGO-L, 1.4 ohm) After the first pull I got a QUICK tingling sensation in the back of my ears and went to the back of my head..Pretty much both started at the same time.
I sort of realized that this "Wasn't quite right" and got up and started drinking a glass of water very quickly, downed it, drank another. After this I walked outside to get some fresh air and tried to just walk it off (I have a bad habit of having panic attacks and sometimes they are brought on by WAY too much Nicotine as it is a stimulant) I started thinking, maybe it wasn't the nic, maybe it was the heat in the house?

I quickly donned some swimming trunks and got into the pool and cooled off, the tingling had gone away, but I still felt, for lack of a better word, out of it. It eventually went away but I am NOT going to try any more of it as I figure that the NIC is too high or there is some kind of "Preservative" that did NOT agree with me.

Either way, I will not be trying to extract Shisha again because woah, this was not a very good outcome, which sucks, because this stuff smelled like it would have made a great vape.

So, maybe someone has an idea as to what went on....

Could have been the flavorings or preservative in the tobacco itself- or maybe it was just vaping the concentrate without diluting? Individual body chemistry is really the unknown variable IMHO. Like road_house mentioned, a nic test kit is a good idea....
I would personally try a mix at 2 or 3% and take it slow , but if you are that concerned it may be best to move on.

Why go to all that trouble when you can buy great pharma grade or better nicotine so cheaply ?
I mean, I DIY and Mod lots of stuff....and i've seen the videos of people doing it...but I'm not going to try to extract nicotine unless I have too...(and thankfully, we don't have too).
Besides...who knows what those preservitives are, and what they turn into when cooked ????

Leave the chemistry to the chemists....vape and be happy !

Well..the reason im taking that step into this realm isthe same reason that people brew beer...because they want to. Great pharma nicotine may be easy and convenient, but where is the fun in that? I have diluted my Five Brothers pipe tobacco and it is pretty mellow with ?able nic% but it is tasty and no negative side effects.

Flavor extraction is one thing, but extracting nic is a whole different ball game. I know that on a DIY Facebook page it is forbidden to discuss and I tend to agree with them. To each their own but I just wouldn't attempt it. I'm not quite sure all the reasons but that's how alot of the hardcore DIY people feel about it.

I was just trying to extract the flavor.
I got a test kit and the extract is so dark that I cannot really determine the actual (if any) nicotine content.

Purely just trying to get the flavor and aroma out of this one.
I have scrapped the results though because I don't really want to mess with this one anymore.
