Unless you have another place to live and access to unlimited legal representation free of charge, I wouldn't say anything. Once you do, they will be watching you, and eventually you will slip up and end up on the street...

you're SERIOUSLY underestimating the craftiness of people in these places. and the resources available to them...

I used to live in DC and know full well what goes on in government housing, but I wouldn't risk being evicted just to make a point. People will do what they continue doing and sign the form, rather than bring attention to themselves...

It costs ~$40 to take a landlord to small claims court, and no lawyers are allowed.

It also amazes me how many people don't realize what a massive headache/cost/pain in the $%# it is for a landlord to actually evict someone, in some states its damn near impossible, tenants are granted nearly all the protections in the laws.

yes sir.

and all it takes to prove residency to obtain these rights is to claim a few articles of clothing are yours or have mail addressed to the location.

I currently live in Government Housing in Illinois and recently we got a notice stating that effective in June no tenant will be allowed to smoke any substance that creates smoke. Be that cigarettes, {other stuff}, or any smoking device. And it specifically called out e-cigs.

If they suspect vaping or see a box mod I will be first warned, then fined $100, and then a third strike is possible eviction.

And to top it all of they expect all tenants to show up to a mandatory meeting to discuss this BS policy.

Not really sure what to do here. Theses are my options.

1. Ignore the rules and hide my vaping
2. Voice my opinions on vaping at the meeting.

If I do 1; I got the possiblity of eviction.
I'm pretty sure if I choose 2, they are not going to give a .... about my information.

Do I have any rights here being that I am living in Gov't Housing(assisted living)? I do pay rent after all.

Total ignorance is running this country and I am a fed up citizen!!!

You have to look carefully at the terms of the agreement that you signed in order
to have the government assisted housing. If I'm not mistaken you'll find that by agreeing to their assistance
you also agreed to their changing the conditions of the "lease" when necessary.

Allow me to mention, and please don't take me the wrong way.
that while I agree with you that ignorance, or rather the ignorant are running this (US) country
you might be a bit grateful as well as fed up and mad.

If you think about it a little you could visualize yourself
vaping under a bridge, pushing all your mods and batteries in a shopping cart. :D

Good Luck.
Regards,

Hazy:2cool:

My girlfriend at the time was in the Big Sister program and I would go with her to Anacostia to pick up the little girl...

hard to believe we are talking about someone being told they might have to worry about being busted for vaping in their own home. Even harder to believe some one could be evicted for that!
Come on boys and girls lets let the gooberment have more power and control they only do whats best for us give them 70% of your in come and do what they say and life is wonderful!

got it...

from a distance...

by proxy no less...

i've personally been on both sides of this coin... in the slums, in a slump and keeping a roof over my head... and trying to evict a real scumbag.

not to mention public assistance aspect.

again... first hand experience.

Well, then, the OP should refuse to sign, go around vaping all over the place, then experience the enjoyment of fighting an eviction, because I am sure those are fun, even if one wins...

nobody's advocating acting like a 3 yr old girl, going around pulling your dress up all over the playground.

I couldn't bring myself to read all of this but it made me think of a friend of mine that is on housing; the landlord tried to band smoking, and anything else that created "smoke" including vaping, cigarettes, incense & candles both inside and on the property. My friend went to the government housing office and showed them the notice and they went after the landlord. The result was only cigarettes & cigars were band and only indoors.

as expected. :D

the landlord has a right to protect their property. but that's about as far as it goes... and often not as far as your example. and when it does... it's someones life vs. your property. rarely is it going to stop the tenant or result in anything.
