I was going to get a couple of those, but think I'll build the whole thing and use brass for the mod body. Brass is "workable" and can be easily soldered.

My long lived dream has been to have a neighbor move in next door that has a CNC machine... So far it hasn't happened. :D Over the years some of the projects I've made (not mods but other electronic projects) would be so awesome in a custom enclosure versus a stupid little hammond or bud box. To be able to whip something up in autocad and have it come to be right in front of your eyes... Just amazing stuff.... I actually built (well 98% of) a 3D printer a few years back. Made everything myself including the programming for the MCU to run it. It half worked but by that point I realized..... Plastic just isn't the same... I've never been much for working things by hand. I want to just draw it in CAD and have it pop out! LOL

Look around your area for a "Maker Space" (I think that's what they're called) and join. They have all the toys and you can book time on them. Even have classes for us noob.

Sent while presently sitting on my .... watching mind numbing prattle on the TV. 257 Channels and nothing on.

Sitting down, facing forward.
A CNC machine would be great, along with a full version of AutoCAD or Microstation to run it from. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with regular old power tools, a fair amount of skill, a good imagination and good soldering skills. That makes copper, brass or bronze materials of choice. Brass looks pretty good, too, and is easily available in sheet form in sizes big enough for a mod. All it takes is enough time and determination.

You're right, plastic just ain't the same. Although I like the 3D printed car idea, order it custom and wait while it's printed!

The AutoCAD I have.... the CNC machine is a bit more pricey.. :D My dad was like that though... He could look at a pile of junk, strips of steel, stainless, aluminum, beer cans, whatever and see millions of possibilities for what they could become... Give him a tig welder, a band saw, a drill press, a grinder and maybe some duct tape and he could make anything imaginable. Or on the flip side once he had an image in his mind of exactly what he wanted to make, he could turn just about anything into it.

Me? Not so much... LOL....

I can see it in mind, can sketch it on paper with no problem, AutoCAD I ain't got. Same goes for a drill press. I can solder anything that can be soldered, braze with no problems, but have never done any arc or more "exotic" welding. At my age, my eyes don't work as well and I'm not as steady as I once was either. Bending and shaping some brass with a grinder/Dremel and soldering it together I can do so that's why brass is my metal of choice, plus there are a few finish techniques that can enhance it. Worse case, I'll skin it with some kind of plastic, IF I ever get the "round tuit" I need to build it, LOL.

Matt you are the man! I've been looking for the cheapest way to get a dna 40 mod and I just ordered 3 from Elev8... The guy was super cool he said some boards are fried and some have had wiring or 510 connectors, but I am going to try to major make a bottom feeder out of at least one of them. I have a 40 coming from dogo, how long did it take to receive your box not chip?
Thanks again you frigging rock my brother!

Haven't gotten them yet. They've shipped but haven't made it here yet. I am think tomorrow.

This fine print is a not so subtle reminder to always read the fine print befre signing anything.
