(I was a pack a day, Marlboro Ultra Light smoker)

Here's my vaping history.....

I've been vaping for about 3 weeks now (going on 4). I started with the SafeCig, then right away I got a Joye eGo starter kit from Liberty-Flights.

When I ordered the eGo I also got a bottle of "chocolate / cream" e-liquid and I bought some prefilled cartos from liquidXpress ( Carnilla Cap, Grape and Taboo ).

Once I got my eGo I was switching back and fourth between the SafeCig, which just has their 18mg tobacco flavor, and the eGo with which I was trying the prefilled cartos from liquidxpress. Of the flavors the Carnilla Cap is the only one I really like.

When one of my Carnilla Cap's was empty I filled it up with the Chocolate Cream I got when I ordered my eGo, and I'm just not liking the flavor much either, but it tolerable.

I've cleaned several of my cartos. I popped off the white cap, ran them under hot water several times, then let them dry on a towel in front of a fan overnight. I've filled them with the liquid I have and some seemed to work ok, but again I'm not digging the flavor. For the past few days I stopped using my SafeCig because I only have one safecig carto left and right now it's my only tobacco flavor I have and I wanted to save it in case I really felt the need for an analog.

THEN yesterday morning I was noticing a metallic taste in my mouth. I had been using my cleaned out cartos with the e-juice and a prefilled grape. I decided to open a new prefilled carto in the Carnilla (since I KNOW I like this flavor) and I started vaping on that all morning but the metallic taste was still there, and getting so strong that it seemed like there was no flavor coming from the carto EXCEPT metallic.

So I thought I'd experiment a bit and used a brand new carto on the other 2nd eGo battery that came in my kit, still the same thing. I tried the cartos I filled, still the same thing. I even broke out my SafeCig and used the last carto I have for it and STILL this metallic taste!

Now today is the same thing. None of the carto's I use taste of anything BUT metal, even freshly opened ones. So I'm guessing it's ME, not the carto's or batteries.

What could be causing this? I've already spent so much money on e-cigs, juices (I have more coming in the mail), cartos....etc and one of the main reasons I wanted to switch to e-cigs is because $5 a day for a pack of analogs was killing me (as were the analogs themselves!).

I'm not enjoying this anymore because of this horrible taste. I want things simple, that's why I like prefilled cartos, but I understand it will be cheaper in the long run to buy liquid and refill myself, so I've been on a search for the perfect liquid for me, one, maybe two go-to flavors I enjoy so I don't have to worry about always trying out new liquids.

The only reason I continue is because I know if I stop I will go back to buying analogs.

Sorry for the rambling, I'm just getting so frustrated, and I'm sure part of that reason is because I need a cigarette. :p

I am trying my best to understand your problem but it doesn't add up to me. I feel safe in telling you it's not the batteries. With the taste being the same with all cartomizers the only thing I can think of is maybe the taste is really juice in your mouth. Try taking long slow drags, very much unlike a cigarette drag. Perhaps you are biting down on the carto because that could break the cover and lead to direct metal contact. If that is the case take one of the rubber covers the cartos are packaged in, cut off the solid end and slide the open end part over your carto, then your contact will be the rubber tip and not the carto itself. Good luck and don't give up.

Thanks SC.

I'm not biting on my cartos, also with the eGo I do take slow drags, normally pressing the button, heating it up a bit before slowly sucking in.

Nothing has change in the way I use the eGo or the SafeCig since I got them, but it's just these past few days that this metallic taste has been there. Even plan ol' water is tasting metallic to me.

First of all, hang in there - you're doing GREAT so far! 3 weeks is nothing to sneeze at.

Secondly - don't panic. Your taste buds are going through a major change. Smoking analogs causes tar to build up on your mouth and tongue and deaden your taste buds. The longer you go without an analog, the more you will start to taste flavors again. BUT - sometimes during this process, your sense of taste can be really messed up. I still go through days when NONE of my juices taste all that great to me - in fact, today has been one of those days.

As for cartos - I have never ever "cleaned" my cartos out. When I was using my 510 w/cartos I just simply devoted one carto per juice flavor. They are relatively inexpensive and you don't have to worry about one flavor messing with another if you just use one carto per flavor. If you do rinse them out with water, and IF you are using tap water to do it, you could be tasting some of the minerals that are in your water (especially if you didn't let the carto dry out fully after rinsing it out).

So, here are my suggestions: Get some more cartomizers, use one carto per flavor. Don't worry about rinsing them out - just refill them with the same flavor juice you had in them (I marked my cartos using really small rubberbands so I could tell which carto was which flavor - I'd also put the same color rubber band on my bottles of juice). After you've refilled them several times (*about* 7-10 times) they might start tasting bad even when freshly refilled - this is a sign it's time to pull out a new carto and throw the old one away. The thing to remember about cartos is that they are not made to last forever - in fact, they are made to be replaced after 5-10 refills (ymmv).

Is that tap water? Again, it could be that your sense of taste is reawakening and you NOW taste all those minerals that are in water.

Maybe try some juice from a different vendor? Just from my own limited personal experience, juice can taste completely different on different pv's. I ordered my Mom some prefilled carts from V4L and she liked them. I ordered the exact same juice from them for her new Riva and it tastes completely different. I think the nic level is too high for the Riva. It tastes much more harsh and she can't use it. I'm going to try to find a smoother juice for her with less nicotine.

What could be causing this?

I've actually been through this twice, and I'm pretty sure that it was mostly my taste buds both times. I'd say you're on the right track by trying some different things to work your way through it. If it is your taste buds, the good news is--they will adjust. The bad news is--it's hard to figure out what they will adjust to. lol. The second time this happened to me, my taste buds adjusted back to some tobacco juices that they had rebelled against the first time. Go figure. lol. Anyways, hang tough and you will get it sorted. Be sure to drink lots and lots of fluids. There's no way to over stress that last point, so please let me repeat that again. Be sure to drink lots and lots of fluids.

Later, JD. :vapor:

I can only agree with this, I am now 5 weeks without an analog and belive me I am getting all sorts of wierd tastes now ! things just don`t taste the same as they used to, your sense of taste will also be changing, and will be becoming more acute (for want of a better word) have you not noticed that nearly everything you put in your mouth just doesn`t taste exactly as you remember it?
I might add that that most things now taste better.

This triggered a thought. About ten years ago certain foods had a metalic taste to me. I went to the EN&T doctor and he said I was low on Zinc. So I started taking Centrum Siver with zinc. It took about a month but sure enough my taste came back to normal. I hope it's that simple for you. Good luck.

Now I have been havinbg the same problem with a metal taste Ive been vaping for about 5 months I never clean cartos I give them a week of refilling always one per flavor and throw them out each week. I have 5 different devices from regular 510 to 7.4 volt and I use different ohm cartos for each voltage and I get this same metal taste but I have figured out its the base used in the juice Im using now so I am in search of a new juice vendor since all I did was change to a friends juice and it went away. I have 5 different flavors from one vendor and they all have this metal taste to them but his dont from the same box of cartos so I say try a different brand of juice

You guys are wonderful!
I too think it might be my taste buds adjusting. I'm definitely going to stick it out. The liquid flavors I have coming are tobacco (from liquidxpress), Ultamint & Wintergreen (from MadVapes, along with a xl 510 battery and charger) and some empty cartos and some more prefilled cartos (Carnilla, Tobacco, Cool Rush) from liquidxpress.

I hope this passes in time to test these out. I have some Multi vitamins, might as well take those and see if it helps, also I'll give the water trick a try.

When I first get a new and different ejuice I can really smell it and get whatever bit of taste it has (keeping in mind that the tongue only senses simple flavors sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and whatever the 5th flavor is called - means savory). Then when I get used to that aroma sometimes I stop tasting/smelling it much and just taste the slight sweetness of the base. At that point, I either have to make sure I am letting my nose get some of the vapor (if you are mindlessly vaping you can forget to do this). And if that's not enough then I have to switch to to different kind of flavor (switch from a sweet to a tobacco or vice versa) because if it's not what I've gotten used to then I will smell it more.

One thing I do with carts (not cartos) is actually change up my flavor if it gets a bit faint to me. I'll add some chocolate ejuice, or some vanilla, or some sweet RY4 for the caramel, or sometimes some plain PG tobacco for more TH or whatever I am looking for, then go back to the original flavor.

I don't mean to sound like an alarmist, but metallic taste in your mouth even when just drinking water can be a sign of a medical issue. I think you should see your physician. It might be a simple mineral imbalance or it could be something much worse. Just my 2 cents! I hope you find out what's happening! *worried*

Some other things to keep in mind -

If you vape a carto too low you can get the taste of singed stuffing which is hard or impossible to wash out. if you vape a cart when it's too dry you can get a similar singed stuffing taste.

If you are vaping 100% PG ejuice it can irritate your tongue (or for some people also throat or even lungs). For me the irritation feels like how my tongue feels if I drank a hot drink that was too hot and burned my tongue a bit - i.e. sore, tingly, taste of everything is really off.

Note though that some people say some 100% VG liquids are too thick for some cartos and get caught up in the stuffing and don't flow well to the internal atty. Is there a reason you are buying full PG or full VG? Popular blends are 70pg/30vg, 80pg/20vg for more TH (but I have to watch out for tingly tongue with that), and some like more VG in their blends like 60pg/40vg or even 50/50. PG is thinner and lets through TH better and flavor better as long as it doesn't irritate your tongue. VG is thicker, a bit sweeter, smoother, and makes more vapor.

Also - I've found that if I drink a hot liquid like tea then that lowers dampen's my tongue's ability to taste vapor. I've heard alcohol does the same thing and for that reason some people have stronger flavors for when they drink. And I've found drinking ice water seems to also refresh the flavor and TH if my vapor for me.
