Jerms,

Your description sounds remarkably similar to Johni's Perique. I was a little surprised when I mixed up a small bottle of DIY NET Perique from his extract. There was very little of the cooked-fruit, musky, mushroomy aroma or flavor I'd expected. Instead, it's a full, woodsy tobacco with considerable complexity, as you state concerning Clay's version. As far as I know, John used Blending Perique from Pipes&Cigars, which is touted as the real thing shipped in wooden casks from St. James Parrish (with none of that Green River Burley substitute mixed in). I wonder if Clay and Nick bought their Perique from the same source.

Actually Bill, that was St. James Parish from RBFS I was describing, I've never had Clay's.

Glad John's turned out so well. Sounds like it's a similar full flavored woodsy tobacco as RBFS.

Well I just went whole hog and bought all three new HHV NETs. I like the description of Temptation, especially the part about it being totally different from Oompa (which I once described as "Ovaltine made with milk just past the expiry date" ;) ) Of course maple tobacco, since I've been hoping and praying for one since...forever? I love maple syrup IRL to pieces, could probably drink it straight, but I've never found a maple e-juice that worked...or by proxy, any pancake or waffle-with-syrup juices that worked either. I wonder how much more "earthy" Gaia will be than Huntsman, since that was previously the alpha and omega of HHV's NETs as far as earthy goes.

Some of you old-timers will be shocked to hear this, but I didn't order any Serendipity. Yes, my previous favorite juice of all time, in my last order, tasted like Gandalf Legend...light sweet fruity tobacco with none of the rich coffee-tea-chocolate richness that made it so gorgeous. (Not this whole saga again!) I'm hoping one of the new ones will take up where old 'Dip left off.

Oh and new NETtys? Have at it!

O yeah.. that reminds me.. Scarfy gave me the thumbs-up on the NETtys. :)

I'll get them started soon. I have new categories and other surprises in mind, but if anyone has any suggestions feel free to post them or PM them to me.

Scarf, I'm really REALLY hoping to hear some good reports on Gaia.

Best coconut NET, best blackberry burley, best ferret piss, best beef fat. . .

Careful Bill. I do believe some vendors are attempting to give you a smoke enema. On the other hand, they may just be adding a bit of Dodo meat broth for umami. :)

Are you sure that wasn't blueberry burley... we probably should ask BJ... :D

Fruit Burley?

They should name the liquid Mr. Furley.

Hey Andria -

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but keep in mind your tastes very likely will change with time (and ultimately what you're searching for in an e-liquid) - especially if you are new to vaping. I'm new, and my tastes and preferences have changed tremendously in the little over two months that I have started vaping exclusively.

During my first month, I tried desperately to find what would taste like a camel turkish silver, so I bought all manner of so called "turkish tobaccos, " both NET and synthetic. Nothing was even remotely close to what I was looking for, and I COULD NOT STAND the sweetness that I found in each and every liquid I tried no matter what it was purported to be. Like you, that search brought me here to this thread.

Once here, I learned a lot about tobacco - from a connoisseur's perspective, and ultimately discovered many NET juices I now love. One of those happens to be Sahara Blend from Ahlusion which is a NET juice made from turkish and virginia brightleaf if memory serves me correctly. Let me tell you, while wonderful, it tastes absolutely nothing like the BS camel turkish silver that I used to crave and smoke two friggen packs a day of.

If my rambling has any point, it's this - your frustration with finding that "perfect" juice will subside through one way or another, and you may even find yourself really enjoying juices later which you now hate and are too sweet. I'm not saying that you don't know what you want right now, but consider the possibility that you'll find something you love in a juice you would have never thought you'd buy a second bottle of.

Ultimately, the most important thing is that you've stopped smoking or are smoking far less - that is what this is all about (for me anyway).

Oh, and welcome to the NET thread :)

Yes, I'm starting to think that I will need to accustom myself to something that tastes very different from "burning tobacco." Best it seems I can do right now is try to find the least sweet. But all this is why I haven't totally discounted this Oak Barrel Cider; there is *something* there that I do like, so I'm letting it sit for a bit, in a dark drawer, and I'll give it another shot from time to time, see how it changes, and how my own tastes might have changed -- it *was* the least sweet I tasted that day, and I do actually like the taste of apples, far more than, say, cherries or blackberries, which I think are also common flavors with this stuff.

I'm sure it's very obvious that I'm very new to this, but yes, I have at least cut way down; I generally say I smoke about a pk a day or less; back in the summer I was smoking maybe 22 a day, but recently it's been a LOT less, like maybe 12-13 a day; still too many, because I do know how dangerous they are, but that's why I embarked on this adventure, to try and find something I can at least deal with, and *finally* get rid of the stupid things.

As I get more accustomed, and less accustomed to the burning tobacco, I might indeed look into other flavors; I've seen a few that at least interested me (cinnamon!), if not for right now. Once I get these two I'm currently waiting for, I'm sure I'll have a much better idea of where to take my continuing search. Two references, almost right in a row, for that Sahara Blend, makes me think it's definitely worth checking out; the reviews for it are also intriguing, especially that it has a really good "arid" throat hit at 12mg strength.

Thx for the welcome! :)

Let me chime in and second the motion that John's home-brewed St. James Parrish Perique is terrific! John and I exchanged some extracts recently, and I have a 10ml bottle of his Perique. Wow.

I haven't had Clay's Perique and probably won't. Not because it's not good---I'm sure it's great (I trust Jerms' opinion)---but John is now my supplier of choice, since I can barter extracts with him.

I knocked out another batch of four heat-assisted extractions last week: three English pipe blends and one aromatic. One of the English blends---Newminster English Oriental---is to die for. The Latakia isn't overpowering, and the Oriental tobacco adds a lovely spice note that lifts the flavor profile . It's even better than my previous English fave, Peter Stokkebye Proper English.

This makes a grand total of 17 extractions I've done since last spring: 10 pipe tobacco blends, 4 cigarette tobaccos, and 3 coffees. I intend to buy a cigar at some point and try my hand at that, but in the meantime I've got 7 more tobaccos coming from Pipes&Cigars. Heck, I may never buy another retail NET.

Ok? I have resisted for months but I gotta ask. HOW CAN I GET MY HANDS ON SOME OF YOUR EXTRACTIONS?

@Mr. Mann and Jerms: Bronze is the only one stating to have received the new HHV; not certain if he picked up Gaia. He tested them, then placed them in the steeping cabinet.

@Adriana: like Beck, I also hated any sweetness when I began vaping -- just ask the regulars here. And now I'm all HHV dessert-tobacco ;) Just take it one juice at a time. Someone suggested Dark Horse... that is nice and dry, not sweet. Huntsman has more sweetness (touch of honey, maple) but it is exquisite!

Speaking of maple eliquid, I finally sampled the bottle of Vermillion River Kentucky Maplewood gifted by the lovely EleanorR....eh. The base tobacco has a twang about it that didn't appeal to me. MOV's HEY JACK is still the best of the Maple baccos, IMO. Hopefully HHV's new Maple, Eh will be as good, if not better.

:)

Yes, I'm terrible with names. Please forgive me.

Not a problem -- if I had a nickel for everyone who called me some variation of "Adrian," I'd be a very rich woman! :D

Hey, I've been going thru that list of links from the OP of this thread, and there's a couple of things I'm wondering. First off, does anyone have any comments about that GoodeJuice "Analog?" I seem to recall seeing *something* about it somewhere in this forum, but for the life of me, can't recall where I saw it. There are only 2 reviews on the GoodeJuice site, which doesn't really offer much description, so I figured I'd ask here.

And secondly, more general: what is meant, exactly, by the term "fire-cured" or "flue-cured" taste? To a real connoisseur of tobacco, the phrase is probably self-explanatory, but I can't puzzle out from reviews/comments what exactly is meant by it, even though I see it a lot.

Thx!
Andria

Analog is a cigarette NET blend using Virginias and Cavendish and is medium sweet and full of flavor. It is sweeter than GeJ's other cigarette-type liquid, Wrangler Light, or Acadian Gold. A few have stated that they tasted something synthetic (more of a quality than a flavor) in it. It works well for me because of the sweetness and the huge flavor it does deliver. It's a much more complex blend than Wrangler Light. Since you're looking from non-sweet, try the Wrangler LIGHT or Wild Turkey first. Or, for a darker, smoky flavor, try Organic #1 -- complex, original and lovely.

Other with more knowledge and experience are better at delineating the differences of fire and flue cured in relation to flavor.

Scarf, I'm really REALLY hoping to hear some good reports on Gaia.

I"m getting them shipped to the US so they'll be there when I arrive at the end of this month. Probably not going to be properly steeped by the time I leave, but I will have a taste for sure.

I am one of those that get's the "synthetic-ish" taste in Analog... but I also taste it in most of GeJ's juices also so I suspect it's their base that carry's the flavor. I also suspect it's one that many don't taste since only a handful of us have mentioned it making it a chemical that we have some type of sensitivity ( taste-wise ) too.

For my money... N-E-T.com's Big Spirit can't be beat for a cig vape. He released several other cig flavors also that are probably great but I've been on a buying hiatus after having stocked up on a few hundred ml's of different juices... BS is an American Spirit tobacco extraction. He also has some Nat Sherman types in his list... I also picked up some of his single leaf varietals and I really like adding a few drops of the Air Cured Burley to 3ml of BS to darken it's flavor just a bit.

Alas... N-E-T.com is just coming back on-scene after Clay has just gotten out of the hospital and is working on catching up on orders... He mentioned he should be back by around Friday.

To me... flu and fire cured tobacco's are smokier versions of the tobacco's... the fire cured one being just a touch "sharper" on the tongue but I wouldn't go as far as calling either acrid or bitter sharp such as a lot of burnt flavors would be. I'm tempted to use a caramel as an analogy but there isn't anything sweet about it... I'm speaking more about the darker flavor of a one compared to one that burned and has a sharpness to it.
