A question for those of you who have experience with DIY...

I have some bottles of NET extracts that I've had quite a while and never bothered to mix. I'm starting to use them now and wondered about the aging/steeping of NETs. We all know it takes a while for the flavors to deepen and mature. But does that happen in the extract itself or after it's added to a pg/vg/nic mix? I've always heard of the chemicals needing to blend, but never gave any thought about which ones, when, or where.

It's only been a couple of weeks since I've dived back into them so I don't have personal experience of them getting better or not.

IMO after it is mixed.

Idk why steeping works. Some say alcohol in concentrates need to evaporate. Others say chemical reaction with the nic. Others again say steep, then add nic so it doesn't spoil.

Some will call me a heretic, but....When I first started vaping commercial, non-net juices, there really was a big difference in letting them age, and some weren't so vapable at first without aging.

But doing DIY, single flavor tobaccos from Hangsen & Inawara, not as much. They kind of tasted "fresher" at first (after only a day or so), and were still very enjoyable. A week or so would increase throat hit, but not dramatically change the flavor. The dominant flavor notes did seem to settle in to make the overall flavor more balanced, though. So they were different, but not really bad at all right away - in some ways, a little better if you like the main notes.

Same with single flavor NET. There's nothing wrong with them right away. Overall, my experience leads me to believe all this hype about "steeping" comes from the juices with artificially lab created tobacco flavors melding with the other flavors. Lab created chemicals, AP and other additives probably need to "settle down" a little. With an all natural NET, I don't think there's any magic that really happens to make the flavor that different - mixing is just basically diluting the flavoring with VG/PG, and PG, I think, is the primary ingredient used in cold maceration anyway. So you might say that aging a single flavor actually is only waiting for the flavor to degrade as it ages. If the maker uses a heated ethanol process, I don't know - maybe those need a little time.

What I have observed over the years is:
When extracting from leaf, some tobaccos are not very strong or tasty after soaking for a month or so. I have used VG/PG, in the past, and VG with just enough very high proof alcohol to thin the VG out to extract. So I increased the soak time by one month and the flavor increased exponentially. This all before mixing the extraction with anything for vaping.
Take this for what it's worth as this is what I experienced.

So I'm still deciding on my second order with HHV, I've tried DF, Huntsman and Temptation. They are all very good with DF being my top flavour. So for my next order I think I've decided on getting Legend and Sludge to try (small bottles) and I keep looking at the Georgia peach tobacco, it sounds like it would be a very different flavour.
Any thoughts?
I vaped Georgia peach for a couple months and really liked it, but then I just couldn't vape it anymore. I think it was nice as a change, but tired of it quickly. Sludge is very good imo, but its probably one of the gunkiest, kind of like bobas (in terms of gunk). I think like you said, legend and sludge and perhaps shadow.

I didn't care for Georgia Peach but what do I know? Try it. It's a non-NET. I suspect you'll get around to trying them all eventually anyway. :) One of HHV's more popular non-NETs is Heavenly Tobacco. It's like an RY4. It has a strong fan base. Another NET you might want to give a shot at is Heavenly Army and Shadow. Both have a creamy base. HA is more a grahamish top note and Shadow is more vanilla-like.

I agree with Bronze, definitely try Heavenly Army and Shadow. Shadow is probably my favorite NET HHV offers outside of Dragon's Fire. Oddly, I cannot stand vanilla flavored juices but I really like Shadow. Have you tried Pirate's Booty yet?

Not yet, but I have Legend, Sludge and I'm thinking Shadow now on my list for next order. Thanks for the suggestion

So I cracked open my bottle of Boba’s today and gave it a 12 puff test drive. Uh, makes me want to retch. Smells and tastes like cologne. I’ll give it another shot tomorrow but there will need to be some kind of major transformation by then because I might lose my lunch.

I don’t remember it tasting like this.

LOL. What you describe as cologne I describe (not for the latest Boba's which I haven't tried, but just generally speaking) I describe as perfumey. Same thing I think. Disgusting!
I'd love to know what flavoring element results in this.
Since it’s likely all their flavors have this offputting element I’m guessing it comes from their PG/VG base. Been here before.

You definitely need to let it steep....how long has it steeped so far? Imo it does transform after a while, it goes from very rough and sharp, to very smooth and a bit sweeter after a good long steep

I've had it approaching a week now. I'll let it sit awhile. But it has a long, long way to go. I age all my juices and none of them had to go as far as this one will. I sampled Boba's 6 years ago and remember it being OK. Not my fave by a long shot but there was nothing offensive about it...better than average, actually. This iteration is highly offensive to me. It seriously turns my stomach and I have a cast iron gut. This is not the same flavor.

My friend describes it as floral.

and none sound good
Certainly not for me, CMD. But as we've been saying lately, cologne for one person is nectar to another. I'm careful to speak only for myself. Amazing how the same juice can make one person do back flips while making another person want to vomit. But it's true! And I'm not about to criticize anyone who likes it. It seems there are still many out there who like it too. Per Diver's suggestion, I will let it sit a month or so and give it another go and see what happens. Aging does help with most juices. I could not vape Vita Bella until it was at least three months old. But even then it didn't go as far as this Boba's is gonna have to come.

I only get tobacco, maybe a bit of raisin and perhaps gingerbread, but never tasted perfume or alcohol. I figured if you like DF, you would of probably liked this. It's like that Apache juice that you like, I bought some and it was probably the most vile stuff I tried in a long time and tossed it. Taste is so hard to figure for sure....I think if you dont like it at all now, that you will never. I definitely have had some that got much much better, but I never really had a juice I hated initially, then really liked it after a steep. After the first taste I usually know if it's a keeper regardless of steep time
