I just found enough of MFT's Sangria to fill an Evod2. I am in vaping bliss right now. This is definitely a great blend and a very well built juice.

I also received some Orlik extract from Boomer in a swap. I also scored some Kuba Deluxe and Virginia Red from Johni. I really need to start extracting so that I can repay they kindness I've received from the extractors here.

Bill, what brand is the cheap chinese press you bought? I'm thinking a press with a 5 micron filter might simplify things enough for me to start. The filtering has been my big hang up. I want to make sure I get it right and get it clean enough to last 2.25ml before it starts turning on me.

If you've tried some of the commercial perique offerings (and assuming you've tried the homemade versions on their own) how does the HM stand in funk (mushroom sour)? The reason I ask is I'll ask for their tobacco source. I'm pretty sure my perique was an imitation perique and a bit stale.

I don't know what "HM" stands for, but I'm pretty sure that both Johni and Boomer bought their Perique from Pipes&Cigars.com---it's called Perique for Blending.

Thanks MM. Have you tried it? What's your take?

Sorry. I have not tried it as I have had to come to the conclusion -- about that and many other liquids -- that I have had my feel. I can only imagine that it is like all of the others with some particular pluses and minuses (duh! LOL). Either which way, I doubt, for me, it would be worth it for me to even see. I do have some RBFS St. James Parish that is just sitting here waiting for someone to vape. Heads-up: My drift has been thrown. haha

HoL's Perique is pretty good. It's dirty, filthy, funky, dank, and 'shroomy. Probably the funkiest one I've ever had. HoL has a knack for not only capturing the essence of certain tobaccos in its juices, but smacking you up side the head with it pretty hard too. It's pretty rough on coils, though. I kind of lost interest in it after RBFS's SJP, but I plan to revisit it again soon to see how it's changed after a long steep.

D'oh!! I just picked up a Bodum today for over twice the price. This one looks exactly the same, and I'm sure gets the job done. One question: Does the space between the plunger and the bottom of the beaker present any problems on the final press? I'm assuming with at least an ounce of tobacco in there, it should still be a struggle to get the plunger all the way down.

Johni, Boomer, what brand if blending Perique did you use? I ordered a tin on McClelland Blending Perique (and Oriental and others) this weekend that I'm hoping is a pure, unadulterated Perique. McClelland seems to have a respectable lineup of Perique blends, so I figured I'd give them a shot.

I used this one: Blending - Perique - PipesandCigars.com

Since there is only one source of commercially available Perique, they should all be the same stuff.

So after receiving a lot of great advice on this thread lately, I figured I'd take one for the team and try Real Extracts, LLC. Firstly, let me rant about the price. What is it with these noob vendors thinking they can charge $1/ml for a brand new to market, untested by the public-at-large juice (RBFS excluded)? That being said, Real Extracts had a 4th of July sale where if you bought a 30ml of CowBoy, you receive 10ml each of their English, Turkish, and CowBoy Menthol for free, bringing the price down to a more reasonable $0.50/ml, so I bit.

First, let me talk about their shipping. I placed the order last Thursday afternoon, not expecting it to ship until today at the earliest after a long holiday weekend. I received the shipping notice email today and was pleased, but went home to find their package in my mailbox. That was ridiculously fast, going coast to coast over a holiday weekend and rivaling GeJ speed.

So I loaded up an Evod of CowBoy right out of the mail to test it out. The first couple of pulls reminded me of a GeJ-style NET, but after a couple of more, I could definitely make out some individual varietals, especially the Burley. Their site describes CowBoy as "our classic American blend of Burley & Virginia tobacco extracts in a 70PG /30VG base. Packaged in 30 ml PET bottles with a needle tip and child resistant cap. Our Virginia is a light yellow BRIGHT VIRGINIA with a natural light sweet taste.
Our Burley is a flue cured leaf, golden brown in color with a traditional rich hearty taste.
The two blended together give us the flavor of American cigarettes prior to 1975. Not too strong - It has a medium body with a slight hint of smokiness."

I definitely get the hint of smokiness, and it is a pretty good juice right out of the mail. Worth $1/ml remains to be seen, but I'm anxious to try the others. With each passing vape, it sort of reminds me of EtherVapes in its style, but lighter on the Virginia.

As a side note, I've now started not really liking being able to pick out the individual varietals in a blended juice. I'd rather have an experience like I do with GeJ, where it blends together into an indistinguishable, harmonious whole that leaves me wondering, but extremely satisfied.

For ~25% less than the McClelland, I should have gone with that one. I got scared off by the no-name, generic listing and decided to go with a trusted name. I was a little worried after some mentions of fake Perique or Perique in name only (PINO?) floating around. If they're all sourced from the same supplier though, there shouldn't be much difference.

Hey Dusty, if you have time could you add IndigoVapor to the new NET vendor list in the first post?

Dusty, could you please do the same with Smug Juice (sold by Jersey Devil Vapors, among others)? I've really been digging their Hump and B(r)anded lately. Even though I'm going DIY soon, Hump has definitely earned a place in my rotation, and I plan to reorder it again, along with their RY4, which I've heard really good things about. Thanks.

I've written about this on one of the home extraction threads.

The "throw" of the plunger is stopped about half an inch from the bottom of the flask. That's just about perfect for filtering macerations with 1/2 to 1 ounce of tobacco, as it allows pressing the solids to release much of the absorbed solvent, but with no danger of cracking the bottom of the borosilicate glass carafe. Use care and common sense in how hard you press down on the plunger, however. I mean, don't hit the plunger with a big hammer or anything silly like that. A good, firm squeeze on the plunger is all that's required to release much of the absorbed liquid from the solids.

The blends and single varietals offered on pipesandcigars.com are top shelf tobaccos, they just come in a baggie instead of a tin and are consequently cheaper. Most of the extractions I've done came from there and Milan Tobacconists' bulk blends. The one ounce size fits perfectly in a half pint mason jar.

Thank you for the clarification. I should do some research in the home extraction threads. When I took it out of the package today to examine it, I already told myself not to go all Hulk on it trying to get the last precious drop of extract out of the tobacco and break the carafe, assuming that the plunger went down that far.

Thanks, I'll check out Milan too. I plan on doing one ounce in half pint mason jars also.
