Anthony....don't think mass murder. Think of the Syrian rebels. Might put it in perspective.

Yes, Anthony! Look into the screen. There are Syrian rebels coming after you. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Are you afraid yet? Now go protect yourself from the rebels. :) <----

On top of this I ordered an ebaron dripper, an Itaste vv 3 (similar to an ego twist but with a digital read out and a sleek square shape) and some Iclear30's.

I love my eBaron Dripper Pro, so much so that I'm thinking of getting an eBaron Dripper Spiral to complement it. I've been using the iTaste VV 3.0 for almost two weeks and am pretty impressed for what it does considering the form factor. Afaik, it's the only device that size that has VW. Like the other innokin products I've tried, the kit is a nice value. It comes with the battery and five iClear 16 clearomizers for around $40-$45.

I'm noticing too that the NET's from GeJ are clogging up my ProTank coils every couple days. Rebuilding the coils takes 5 mins and is a worthwhile trade off for the quality of the vape.

I'm also expecting Apache from MOV to show up today, and depending on how it works out, MOV may be seeing a lot more action from me because I already like Southern Gentleman and kinda like Sunday Morning.

Dusty, is there a reason you rebuild instead of dry burning the coil?

I find rebuilding faster than dry burning to be honest, plus dry burning sometimes leaves a bit of an "off" taste to the vape after I'm done.

With 200 feet of Kanthal and 20 feet of 3mm Wick, it's just easier to have a clean setup every couple days. ;)

I rotate between 2 ProTanks and 4 heads, so always have two new ones ready to go when swapping. I just rebuild the used ones either the same night, or the next one.

Did you order yours from houseofmods in UK?

Seems like it would be perfect for nets.
I'm wanting a spiral to use on the EA mod I have on the way and maybe a future Nemesis. Somebody please slap me like a sleepy hog and keep me away from the mechanical mod threads. It all started with a lowly Smoktech Natural and now I'm infected.

That misses the point. The 2nd amendment was designed specifically to prevent a Syrian rebel situation. My guess is they wish they had a second amendment. :)

Gotchya, thanks for the answer.

I haven't needed to rebuild or clean an eVod head yet. Was hoping your answer wasn't going to be that dry-burning makes it not wick well. I'm new to these tank/bottom-coil things so haven't found out what type of issues crop up yet.

Anybody try building an eVod or ProTank with thicker wire and 1 ohm or less? Can the wicking keep up to applications that require faster wicking?

My concern here would not be the wicking, but rather the little flimsy rubber gasket that holds the legs of the coil at the bottom of the Protank or Evod head. It would burn and things could get NASTY real quick.

Excellent point.

I'm thinking of setting up a head to use on my mechanical when I receive it to take with me to work. It'll have to work fine with a full battery and still provide a decent hit when the battery gets lower.

I rebuilt and evod and protank head this morning with 30awg kanthal. The evod at 2.7 and the protank at 1.1.
Haven't tried the sub-ohm. My wicking on the 1.1 keeps up fine but I'm using the xc-116 braided ceramic. I did notice on the one I did yesterday that the thicker wire doesn't gunk up as fast as the 32awg.

I ran Caribbean Blend through it all night and the coil looked great when I checked this morning, like a nicely coated grill but no gunk yet.

cheers

I think that would be my major concern on a sub-ohm coil with 30awg or lower. That little rubber grommet probably can't take higher amps.

Nice.

Yeah I've noticed with my drippers, 30ga stays clean a lot longer than 32ga, as does wrapping the coils without space in between the wraps. Hoping a 30ga micro coil will work well with the eVod.

Jerms...agree on stacking the coils closer. That does make a difference to be sure. I always push my coils together like a compressed slinky. I never have any shorts. They spring back enough so they don't touch.

Norman, Ok
Since a thicker gauge wire will have less resistance... it shouldn't get as hot as a thinner gauge wire ... so it shouldn't burn/melt the gasket as easily. Another way to look at it, the thicker gauge wire will spread the heat across a larger area... so any one spot is overall lower in temp for the same power setting.

I anneal the wire first and wrap them tight so they touch, no shorts. It's a myth that touching wraps cause a short, Cisco spec has made coils like that for their atties for years.

How are you annealing them?

Just heating them up with a lighter to take the springiness out, and it can be doused in water and done a few times if desired. It's a little harder to wrap a coil with touching wraps because, as you pointed out, there's a natural springiness. Either type of coil works great in my opinion, but having even small gaps is a place for gunk to collect. Though I've found for 10+ wraps of condensed coil just a couple small gaps is a good thing.

The key to a condensed coil I found is how you wrap. After heating the coil to remove springiness try this. Whatever you're wrapping on; nail, drill bit, needle, etc; keep the wire pulled fairly tight while wrapping and wrap as perpendicular to the nail as possible, so the shape it tries to hold is with the coils side-by-side.
